He is an old man but as she tells the Judge, her family and her and him agreed on her marrying him and he would do such and such and she would do such and such. It started to go wrong when he was expecting her to just live with him, provide sex I suppose and just be a doting wife on him and him alone. I am glad judge judy found in her favor because people in the Phillipines dont have welfare like they do in countries like the US and Australia. Most who leave the Phillipines to live or work overseas will try to send money home. They are hardworking, and family orientated. As for him being old? Well 43 is not old but compared to 23, it is older than usual. I know a couple who have a huge age gap and have a child and are happy. It could have worked out if he was less stingy with his money and less of a control freak so he destroyed his own marriage unfortunately. I do hope she stays in the US and finds a good husband who understands her love of family.

Did you pay attention as she provided the documents that Judge Judy asked him to provide? If what he was saying true, he would have all the documents. He would not have smiled when any bad thing he did was brought up. He was not even paying her minimum wage. He took advantage of her. Cleaning his home he still has to pay her minimum wage. When she said she’s the second oldest sibling, it actually means something in Filipino culture and kinship. My mother is the second oldest daughter and the firstborn is her brother. Her parents then had 4 children after my mother. For my mother’s entire life she took care of everybody-siblings and parents-from cooking, cleaning, and getting her younger siblings ready for school, then financially, in housing, and in physical care even as adults. I also learned this in while taking a Filipino family course in college. I feel bad for these daughters to have this responsibility and judge Judy is right to say that she should focus on herself and her family should take care of themselves. I understand this is the Filipino culture but having witness it my entire life through my mom and the hardships she went through everyday and working 16-hrs everyday, no days or holidays off just to take care of everybody, everybody relied on her and no one wanted to help her back, she physically and emotionally suffered in the end.

Older dudes do this all the time, and there's literally no reason why a girl would agree to marry a 45 year old man, uproot her whole life, just to work so much that she can only get 4 hours of sleep a night. It’s a huge blessing that this case was brought into the justice system and hence, justice was served for the young Filipino wife. Otherwise, she will be trap with him. Filipinos have close family ties. It’s not a responsibility to take care or send other sibling’s to school but whether u grow up in poor or rich family where u have the compassion to help your parents, you can’t just leave them behind and live your own life. Because poverty will teach you about life to become self-sufficient, resilient, hardworking, compassionate to others and being trustworthy. Thank you to Judge Judy - God bless her all the time.🙏

A lot of people don't know or understand the Filipino culture of family. Even Judge Judy didn't understand why she was sending money to her family after marriage. Filipino family culture. specially poor families, a member of the family, usually the eldest, takes repsonsibilitiy of taking care of the siblings like food, clothing and specially education. That's is the Filipino culture. Foreigners sometimes have a hard time understanding this. The simplest explanation is that family is family. every family member takes care of each other.

There are many cultures where family members support each other till the end. Glance over to Southern Europe, for example, and you'll see the same thing going on. Also, calling Americans 'foreigners' when they are in their own country, is a bit rich

This is good and all but this culture should be amended don't you think? Keep the helping each other without giving the weight of every burden to one person who also has a life of their own. The parents should be able to enjoy their own money after the child/children get their own job. You don't raise the eldest just to take the responsibility of the parent. (This the amending of such a potentially good cultural trait hehe)

I really hate to see these situations develop and I have zero sympathy for the man. I'm married in Southeast Asia to a wonderful Vietnamese woman AND HER FAMILY. That's part of the cultural agreement here and I've been very happy to use my social security benefits and my Veterans Administration disability compensation pension to help all of them. Living here affordably I've been able to pay off all my old bills and still have a little money left over at the end of the month to help out the local poor people and a daycare center for victims of Agent Orange poisoning. My two bonus daughters are able to attend a university here and it's ironically fulfilling that all of this is possible because of the compensation I'm paid for my injuries in Vietnam during the war. It's sad and somewhat disgusting to me that so many American men simply want to shop for a young sex partner in Southeast Asia and expect the woman to become totally detached from her responsibilities to her family back home. Good for Judge Judy!
