I am a retired tool & die maker. I was taught to only file in the forward direction. A tip to keep the filings from sticking in the file, use a piece chalk to coat your file before filing.
@HciContractor4 ай бұрын
That's a really good tip! I always thought you didn't drag the file backwards because it would fill the file with the metal shavings and it would dull quicker.

I prefer to cut my boiled linseed oil with a bit of turpentine. It thins it, and allows it to soak into the wood further, and also makes the boiled linseed oil go farther. The smell is strong for a bit, but it goes away after a little while.

Just wanted to let you know about an Axe sharpening technique that not many people know about. It is sandpaper on a drywall sander. The drywall sander slightly depresses and conforms to the shape of the edge. This is especially useful for convex edges, as a flat stone or file will cut a flat plane. In addition, sandpaper grits go very fine compared to the round stones which I rarely see exceed 600 grit. I go to 2000 grit + for my hewing axe. I treat it as I would a sharp plane blade, some may say overkill but I find the axe to perform much better.
@donaldmatthies60264 ай бұрын
Cody, I have the almost exact Pulaski, except mine has neon lime green where yours has black. I like that double sheath idea, I might just have to borrow that idea from you, instead of using the orange plastic sheath. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.
