I've heard about this "NPC Theory". It's based on the fact that we only inhabit one body and one consciousness. That means our brains can convince themselves that they are essentially "the main character" and that no one else is actually real. Which is wild if you think about it in the way that your brain could literally convince itself of anything. I've heard people say that it's because a person lacks empathy that they can have this theory in their head. Which makes a lot of sense. These people think that they're the only real person in the world, so they don't care about social consequences. That's why they film these people. The problem is that it makes people jerks about it. They film people with mental disabilities/illnesses and normal people that very understandably get mad that they are getting filmed by some random dude for god knows what reason, and those types of people/reactions reinforce that they are right about these people being NPCs and that it doesn't matter what their societal actions are. They don't realize they have a problem with themselves, and they need help.
