It's not taught with practical application in mind. It's more of a thing for people who are intelligent, but don't like math and/or sciences and as a kind of general intelligence measuring stick. Most of the time you can combine a couple of themes such as science with math, science with Latin, math with latin, economics latin, languages latin, etc. each year. Latin is kind of used as part of the holy 'intelligence trinity' together with sciences and math. People who do math-sciences are seen as smartest, after that math-latin or latin-sciences, followed by anything that combines latin and some of the 'lower' studies like languages or economics. And after that you've got the 'lower' studies such as economics-languages... Sounds douchy when you say it like that, but that's how it is.

Vlad was the ruler of Wallachia while at the time Matia Corvinus was the ruler of Hungaria and Transilvania. Secondly, Romanian folklore has absolutely no mention of vampires and some of the things depicted in the original story are exaggerated. On a narrative and creative level the story is amazing, but it doesn't represent Transilvania in the slightest. edit: spelling

It's a controversial subject, but Hungarian historical documents talk about the conquest of Transilvania in the 9th century. Anyway, this region had lot of citizens of Romanian ethnicity (almost if not the majority). There is also a lot of Romanian cultural heritage in Transilvania, especially in the churches. Not to forget the historical events, notably the 1848 revolutions at Blaj and the revolt of Horea, Closca and Crisan in Alba-Iulia. edit: spelling... again
