Colombians often say that the people from Santa Marta and the rest of the Colombian Coast are extremely lazy and don't like to work.
That's one stereotype (along with a few others) that I'll be asking the locals of Santa Marta in this video.

2.5 million Venezuelans migrated to Colombia since 2016. During the 70s-80s and 90s during heavy fighting in rural areas, it was Colombians who fled and went to Venezuela. We have very close ties in spite of our differences.

Colombia is blessed by diversiy in all faces, the important thing is to enjoy each place for what it has to offer. I am from a little idilic town in Boyaca, from I left i 6 decades ago to see the world, and to which I have returned to retire after running over the continent and the world..

Unfortunately, there’s alot of Venezuelans who like Carolina who have left their country because of the political, and economic situation of the country. I have cousins who still live in Venezuela, but some have left to Peru and some went to Colombia and now live in the city of Barranquilla. Saludos 😊

I did not watch the video. As a Caribbean Colombian, I find it to be very offensive. It reminds me of annoying Australians I've met in Bogotá and Panamá with their stuck-up attitude. Have you asked Paisas why THEY (and only they) strengthened and spread the drug-trafficking business throughout the country, why Paisas created the "narco-cultura", and why THEY (and only Paisas) are the authors of the so well famous Colombian fame as a narco country? Because Pablo Escobar is still the most famous paisa of all time, and he was one of the many (incredibly many) paisas who developed that business in our country, and all of us (even costeños) have to bear the fame and consequences. Drug trafficking is EASY money, and easy money is also a product of laziness. Colombians, we ALL know that paisas are masters at easy money.

Bravo. I am African, have visited Colombia both Medellin and Barranquilla and Cartagena. When i saw the title, I was like here we go again. When they say coastal people you could substitute that with black, indigenous or brown people. It is borderline or outright racist. The colonizers came to Africa , stole our people and land and as thanks turned around to call us lazy- how smart of them. I watched the video and if you did you would get a view of one street vendor who was clear in saying that the people on the coast have a balanced view of life between work and social life. To be fair this is not the opinion of AK Joel and it is important to have these kind of conversations so stereotypes can be challenged and dispelled. This balance in life is missing for most people here in the US where I live where most people are only occupied with making money or moving up in their professional careers. I worked in corporate banking now government ( which is calmer) , you would be surprised how many people gave up their paid vacation days just so they gave the appearance of being more dedicated or committed even if their production may prove otherwise. I agree with you, most foreigners associate Colombia because of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel even though the Cali cartel came along but we all know the drug lords were not typical coastal people who the Paisas try to claim are lazy.

@@muchit3629 Thank you for watching and actually understanding the point of the video! So many people see the title and immediately want to get mad - you can see that in this video I actually hit the street armed with a stereotype and I try to disprove it.

@@AKJoel Sounds good, I am always willing to listen instead of having a knee jerk reaction. To be fair, when you are a member of the group of people being referred to it is sometimes hard to not be offended immediately. I have seen enough of your videos so I knew the title was just the title and not that you were endorsing that opinion. I appreciate that you are not afraid to report things exactly as you see them on the ground. The crazy thing is the same Paisa with that opinion would probably be shocked to hear that a person from the coast like the guy who responded things that Paisas love easy money. The thing is we cannot use outliers to define a whole group of people. The truth usually is somewhere in the middle.
@AKJoel

@@muchit3629 that's very true, definitely can't generalize as there's always 2 sides to every story. for example what Paisas consider as lazy, Costenos consider as work life balance!
