Just visited Medellin in November and used Tinder. Met a great girl who I spent majority of my time with when I was there and still speaking to her to this day. Not saying it’s completely safe but just be smart and do your due diligence on the person.

As someone who visited Cartagena, Colombia on holiday, I couldn’t help but feel it’s overhyped to foreign tourists, especially men looking for companionship. It reminded me of Thailand in the 90s - scams are everywhere, and you see the struggles of locals hustling to get by on meager wages. Meanwhile, broke expats working remote customer service jobs flock there, chasing the illusion of "love." You are driving up prices as gringos. Colombian woman do complain about being harrassed and cat-called. Like I said, it's over marketed and affecting lives of locals.

You gotta have rocks in your head to get married in today's world no matter how you met you partner. Why buy the cow when the milk is free.

Although it is definitely sensationalist, there's obviously some truth to the concerns. It's entirely possible to use dating apps successfully in Colombia without becoming a victim, but the level of caution required in any big city there is extremely high. The ambiguity and risk makes things very stressful and tiring IMO. I've traveled extensively across Latin America, including countries often deemed dangerous like Brazil and Mexico, and in both places, you can navigate dating (including dating apps) with significantly fewer precautions. I’m not entirely disagreeing with you-just pointing out that when there’s smoke, there’s often fire. Even if you are taking precautions, for the average guy that has little spanish and/or understanding of the culture, I still think using apps out there probably isn't the best idea but to each their own. Also, while many situations stem from men making poor decisions, I’ve also heard stories where the women played the long game and were incredibly cunning.
