Hi! Such an interesting video and concept! As a Spanish med student I can assure everyone we have the same problem here, but with different careers. You see, we still don't have a lot of careers in healthcare, biomedicine it's still very new and people tend to associate it more with the engineering field (for whatever reason), we don't have neuroscience or genetics, so people come to do medicine from dentistry, psycology, physiotherapy and most cliche here, nursing. Heck nursing was my second option too if I didn't get it (and I think I would have loved it too). But I think this raises problems later in the hospital, as it perpetuates a power imbalance between nurses and doctors. Nurses feel dumb because they didn't get into medicine (the grades are high, universities limited) and as*hole doctors feel superior because they did. I think we as a society must learn to truly appreciate each career for what they do to contribute to the greater good and not make them an ego boost or an insecurity.

Hii thank you for your comment. I understand where you're coming from. I do agree that nurses, receptionists, healthcare assistants, doctors, technicians... basically every personale is an integral part of the medical team, and should be respected for their amazing work

Complete opposite with me. I did medicine, got easily accepted, had amazing grades (sorry for bragging) but as i progressed through my medical uni years, i started feeling the lack of motivation grow bigger. I tried to ignore that feeling and just push through. Eventually i finally decided to really reflect on why i was feeling that way, and i realized it was because the actual career of a doctor didnt seem appealing to me at all. Long work hours, won't have alot of fammily time, always on call, and many more. So i decided to quit even tho i only had 2 years before i was completely finished. Still decied to quit and did biochemistry and now a master in biomedical neuroscience. And i'm so happy with my decisoion. After i get my masters i am thinking about going back to medicine and finishing of my degree, so that if i ever wanted to practice medicine part time, i can, but maybe i wn't and i'll do my neuroscience phd. People going into medicine really underestimate the burden of being a doctor. IMO you're underpaid for what you do, it's the occupation with the highest level of burnout and stress, unless you're working part time having a balanced family life is impossible, working long long hours (eve, back to back). So yeah, if you can go talk to a doctor before you decide to do medicine, so you're sure it's the life you're ready for.

Try medical communication agencies. You can work as a medical writer or an account executive, and still use your science skills to help pharma clients with publications

Hola :) Im a 4th year medical student from Argentina, and here our best medical university is public and free, so basically you cannot be rejected, anyone can do medicine, you dont need to take an exam or anything. And it's the same for other careers. So its interesting and strange to hear that someone can be rejected from medicine. (sorry if I wrote something wrong, I'm not the best with inglish)

@@Karabo327 yes of course, actually most of the students in my class are brazilian. I also know many students who came from Chile, Paraguay, Haiti, Peru and Portugal. The only requirement is to speak spanish, if you don't you have to learn and get B2 level

I never applied to med school, but if I did I would’ve been rejected. I’m really happy with my decision tho. That being said, you can do both. The last doctor I talked to got a bachelors in biomedicine before going to med school for another 5.5 years. L If you love the subject, it’s alright. Besides, you’ll earn a lot of money, so the student loans won’t be a big problem, imo.

by the way, the most easy way to do Medicine is in Spain, especially doing selective after 25 year old. They dont doing you read a lot of books, you just have to study what is given in class. Te selective can be triky , but the carrer is easy there.
