Mens 34x34 Fits 32x33 or 32x33* size 34 are some other examples of what will help reduce INADs. The most important thing is the tag waist size being in the title and it needs to be close to the front. Many guys who are a size 38 don't want a pair of Levi's with 40 on the back tag even if it fits them and no one can see it. Lauren probably rarely gets an INAD for the way she does it as it is another good example of how to tackle this issue.

There is a difference between what helps you as a seller and what helps the buyers on ebay (predominantly). 1. to be protected for items not as described the size on the label MUST also be the size in the title. Otherwise the buyer can take a picture of the size label open a case and eBay would nod and say. Yes that was not as described and ends up as a defect in the account. 2. to make the most sales it helps to put the measurements in the title because if potential buyers click on an offer with their measurements and then it really is their measurements (no matter what the label says) this is more likely to lead to a purchase than if a buyer clicks and then reads in the description that the jeans actually turn out to be completely different. To summarise: It is up to the seller to decide what is more important to him. More sales or being safe from cases. Alternative: Put BOTH measurements in the title and in the description: Label says XX but fits like XX. But you have to sacrifice other keywords for this. (I sell clothes on ebay Germany)

Here's an actor's secret you probably don't know about: Often actors (and models) who are only going to work in a film or photoshoot for a short time, will buy your clothes, wear them for their role, or their shoot, and then return them to you later saying, "It didn't fit." They get to use your clothes for a few days, then get their money back. I know this, because I have a LOT of actor/model friends who have done this many many times. I never did it because it is unethical, no matter how poor you are. And I wasn't really a good actor anyway. I preferred working behind the scenes.

I would go as small as a 1 inch discrepancy. Men's jeans (and shirts) can vary wildly at times. Even dress pants. It all depends on the manufacturer. My normal size is a 40 x 30, but depending on the manufacturer, and the style, I have to get a different size. A relaxed fit in my size is loose. Regular fit is usually correct for the Wrangler brand. Dickies runs small, so I have to go the next size up. Levis don't fit me right, so I stick with Wrangler for personal use. Just to give you a heads up for your shirt store, the same thing goes with shirts. Depending on manufacturer, I can wear a large, and an extra large. However, some large size shirts are too small. Hopefully, this will give you some ideas from a male perspective.

I agree - a one inch difference and I'm typing the actual measurements (jeans/pants) in the title. However, after reading the comments, I kind of like those who suggest the tag size and then "actual 34x32" or "tag 34x32", but I don't like how many characters it eats up, especially if the jeans are really trendy and you need those keywords.

@@inittoflipit2052 If you copy and paste your title to the top line of your description you can add all the keywords you want there. It won't affect your TITLE ranking but ebay and Google both scrape your description for duplication on keywords (meaning, the more a ranked word appears the higher your listing ranks) AND they both give greater weight to the top line of your description so it is almost as effective as the title.

@@5DGuitars It is my understanding (and eBay has confirmed) that the algorithm no longer takes the description into account when using the buyers search specifications UNLESS buyers click that specific filter. The algo only searches the title and the item specifics. I've always (25 yrs) duplicated the title as the top line of my description, but I don't think it helps anymore, unless the buyer is using that filter.

This is exactly the issue I’ve been struggling with so I am happy for this video! Problem with eBay is that these people are all foreign, hard to understand and just don’t get what you’re trying to ask. I can’t stand it. It seems the representatives are going by what their opinion is. I feel like we should be putting the actual measured size in the title rather than the tag because if the person doesn’t look at the description, at least the jeans are measured accurately by you and listed in the title even though it’s not what the tag says. Then list what the tag says in the description

In the title I put: Size 34x32 actual inseam 30.”In the item specifics I put the actual inseam size. In the description I put “tag size is 34x32 but actual I seam is 30 inches. I don’t adjust sizes for the waist because I think the tagged waist size often depends on the rise. So if it’s a lower rise, then the tagged waist size will still be 34 but the measurement will be larger because the pants sit lower on the waist. Hope that makes sense. If I’m listing a shirt, I sometimes put “May run small, check measurements for proper fit.”

From all of the sellers that I examine (I look at dozens of successful stores, not just youtubers) the consensus I take is a title that should look something like this... Brand Jeans Men 36x32 (35x30 actual) Fit Wash Keyword Keyword Keyword etc... I would go with a 1" difference triggering the "actual" just to cover your butt. That being said, you will still get returns from "Karen" who tells you that she wears size XX and these definitely don't fit like a XX, or "my husband wears this brand all the time but yours are too tight/loose/long/short. Just refund, take the hit and move on in as stress free a manner as possible.

Ive always put the actual tag size followed by what I measure in the format youve described in previous videos. I do lose keywords, but this ensures I have the actual tag size to protect me from buyers using the tag in their cases, and also allows my listings to show up for the actual measurement. I still get returns, but I’ve only ever once had someone say “your title confused me and thats why I purchased the item in the wrong size.” *The Brand* Jeans Mens/Womens *Tag Size* (Act. *my measurement*)… I think bottom line buyers will always find something since we have limited characters in the title. Even with both measurements sometimes ebay files that I got it wrong on my end when I say I provided both with detailed pictures. Im stuck refunding 100% of their purchase. Love your videos and appreciate all the advice and tips you provide. Hope your sales continue to stay strong.

In the description I put the original tag size and the actual size of the jeans, problem is people don’t read it. I have lost count of the amount of times I get a return or a message say the jeans you sent me say they are a 32 on the tag and these are bigger than that which is all explained in the listing, they just didn’t bother to read it! Then I state 2 or 3 times that the measurement is different than the tag by putting the measurement at the top of the listing with the ones that have a discrepancy in bold and explaining it each time. I think I have had only 3 or 4 returns for size over the years and I have no problem selling them from messing up the algorithm. I sell a lot of jeans and rarely get returns on them. When I list men’s jeans, I will put the actual measurement in the title, waistxlength and the words “actual measure”. hoping they’ll see those words and take notice, but we know how buyers are 🤨 For women’s jeans, I will put the waistxlength & and whatever the tag says. I have photos with the measurements for them to see, then in the listing I will put a line that says: size tag says 34 x 32 SEE ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS BELOW. Then I will have the actual measurements for them. Lastly, at the bottom of the description, I have a blurb that I put in every blue Jean listing that says: PLEASE READ: In time jeans can shrink or stretch. Please see all photos and read listing to see the actual measurements. Is that a little overkill, absolutely but I copy and paste so it goes quickly when I list. Recently, someone tried to return a pair of jeans until I reminded them of the information I put in the listing. They opened the package and messaged me right away because the tag didn’t match the size they wanted. Once they saw the listing and tried the jeans on, they apologized and kept the jeans. For women’s jeans, I do the waist and length in the title because all of us women know none of our sizes match from brand to brand. But in all seriousness, no matter what we do, you’re going to get customers that don’t read a single thing or look at any pictures but the first one like you said.

First, I ALWAYS use actual for Inseam in title & item specifics. Any other choice is simply stupid. Men know their inseam, and it is a constant. If they are hemmed I call it out in both condition and description; if they are a little short from shrinkage, the language is in my general template covers this. Where the difference from tag is noteworthy (like more than an inch shorter than the tag), I try to ascertain hem vs shrinkage and mention in description. "The inseam is 3x" due to normal shrinkage" or "These jeans have been tailored to a 3x" inseam." Waist differs based on if measurements are OVER or UNDER. Waist measuring OVER is indicative of "fantasy sizing" which is increasingly common in men's based on brands (e.g. find Diesel typically +2-3" Lucky +2" and even Levi's +1-2"). It's not as extreme as women's, but it is getting there. In that case, I use Tag Size in title and "Size" field but I add actual to the "Waist Size" field and in the picture showing measurements. When waist measures BELOW tag by more than 0.5" I call out in TITLE (Tag X; Actual Y). This happens primarily in vintage, and buyers are used to it. In that case, I will typically use the actual measurement in both the "Size" and "Waist Size" field.

She said as the blade cuts it goes out slightly toward the bottom (top pair are properly sized and bottom wind up being slightly bigger.) And I believe it cause no two pair of jeans fit the same when I try them on. So after she told me this, I literally measure all my jeans before listing. And many times the size don't match.

I put this information in the description that actual measurements are different than original tag says and also a note to "keep in mind that previous use and wash may change sizing a bit". This may not prevent returns anyway but at least I am covered that I provided all information and pictures with measurements. Wishing everybody has successful selling business💪!

Thanks for the video, we had 2 INAD's, 1 had the tag size in the title, photos and detailed description of the actual measurements, ebay went with the buyer. The second one had the actual size in the title because the waist was 1.5 inches smaller than the tag size with detailed information about the differences in the description, ebay went with the buyer. I talked to a rep on the phone, using the first case as an example, they didn't have access to the first one because the case was closed. We started listing the tag size in the description then add (actual 32x36). We had negative feedback after a return because our description was "misleading". Ebay declined to remove the feedback. This is the price we pay for selling jeans, especially women's jeans. Customer support is basically no help. I've been selling on ebay since 2001 customer service has declined significantly in recent years.

When you said, "I went straight to chat over just calling because I am nervous." I laughed because same! lol also 100% agree with you, why can't women's jeans be measured in the same way as mens in the fashion industry. For my mens jeans listing I always put Brand Name 36x32 (Actual 34x30) & I don't believe I have ever had an INAD for mens jeans for the past 3 years I've been reselling.

For men's jeans, I put the actual waist & inseam measurements in the title (ie: 34X30). I also put the tag size in the description [ie: 34X32 (Size onTag)] . I put an additional line in my description labeled "Actual Measurements" and list waist, inseam, rise and leg opening. Since women's jeans don't typically put the waist and inseam measurements on their tags like men's jeans, I put the tag size in the title (ie: 14). In the description, I also put the tag size and then again, put an additional line in my description labeled "Actual Measurements" and list waist, inseam, rise and leg opening. I have had pretty good success with this. I have never been able to find a direct phone number to call eBay for help (kudos to you). There helps, FAQ's and chat are frustrating and less than helpful.

I will note i have never not 1 time had ebay not side with me when an inad comes through for sizing.

I put the tag measurements in the title and then the measured in parentheses with a note to *read* or something like that. Unfortunately that takes up valuable keyword space and I'm on the fence about whether it's worth getting more views and sales and more returns or not. And you're right about new jeans can be just as bad, I once bought four pair of Levi's at Kohl's after trying one pair on and buying the other three exactly the same. When I got them home three didn't fit and when I took a ruler to them the measurements were off by an inch or more.

I think some of the tech support persons were a little confused and just went straight to tag size. I personally put the measured size followed by an asterisk for the title and then put something like TAG IS 34X30 BUT ACTUALLY MEASURES 29X32 (SEE PHOTOS) for the condition and description. I make sure it in bold and uppercase so it's clear as day.

I think overall it depends on return rate. Before I listed the measurement size, I had a pretty high return rate due to items not fitting. IE I would only sell 10 pairs of jeans and I would get 3-4 returns because they don't fit. Now I get maybe 1-2 returns for every 10 sold. I tell customers this information if they ask why the size is different, or if they open up a case for a return. If something reduces my return rate in half, I will do that all day. I also went to always adding a 1 inch to my inseam measurement, as I found that they most likely measure at the factory when the fabric is unwashed and pulled taught. Lots of levis new with tags I've seen be exactly 1 inch off all the time, so now I just add one inch to the inseam to account for any fabric stretching/not being exactly straight. I think the 2 inch rule should work well overall though.

I have been an eBay seller since 1999. I put both in title if 1 inch difference or more. My thought is someone who wears size 32 waist searches a size 32. If the tag says 33 but it really is a 32, then that buyer might find my listing. Then first thing in both condition & description I put "tag size" and then "measured size". I have sold so many jeans and only get 1-2 returns per year . Never had a ding for not described on clothing ever.

I list what is on the tag and show the actual measurements. If the customer was buying those jeans new...and had them today, that is what they would experience. If jeans were hemmed, that would not be the "off the shelf" experience if the customer bought new. Now....how to tell if they were hemmed is a different story (especially if done well.) But should be clear if they are more than 1" or so different than tag.

What I usually do is put the tag size in the title but when I choose the sizes in drop-downs or where the field asks for size metadata, I choose/input the real measurements, as well as include allll of the explanation and full real measurements in the description. My template for all listings looks like this: ______ Brand Item Name Brand Color (generic color) [ex: Marine (dark royal blue)] Tag Size X / Fits Like Y (see measurements below) Style # If Known •Rise •Leg style/fit •Notable details •Fabric description [ex: midweight denim with no stretch] •Pattern/color description [ex: medium blue wash with manufactured fading] Fabric Content Condition [ex: New With Tags / Excellent pre-owned condition] No rips, stains, or notable flaws OR describe the flaws Flat Unstretched Approx. Measurements (inches): Waist: Rise: Hip: Inseam: Thigh: Leg/Ankle: Keywords: a b c d [any applicable that were not already used in rest of listing] ______ Granted I am not nearly as successful or profitable of a reseller as you are, I do have to toot my own horn that in 5ish years of reselling approx. $35k /1500 items, I have only ever had 3 completed returns, 2 of which I approved and only 1 I lost after dispute. Maybe 25 have attempted returns, which is still a fairly low number, but because my descriptions are so thorough and accurate (whether or not these people are willing to actually read the tedious details I include is another story haha), I usually have an easy time winning disputes because I have so much text proving everything I honestly and candidly claim about the item. This also helps convert browsers into buyers, minimizes elements of surprise, and almost guarantees a five star rating.

@@juliedubois5650 it likely depends on the platform. not all are providing search results based on only searching the titles, but the more search terms that match up with terms in the title would appear priority/closer to top search results. i believe that this issue affects men more than women because as a woman, i can range from like 5 diff. sizes depending on the brand/style (i literally have everything from s-xl in my real life closet). therefore, as a shopper, i personally never type my size into the search bar but instead use the size filter to at least narrow it down if possible. basically what im saying is if i wear a 30x30, that is what im searching as a buyer. as a seller, as long as i have that real size mentioned as much as possible in listing, it will show up sooner or later, and it may not matter much depending on the platform. i am the first to admit i am no ebay expert because it has changed so much over the years (i opened my account in 2002) and it went from being my first reselling platform before i was pro to my least used. maybe if i prioritized using ebay i would restructure my titles a bit to experiment with if it brought in more sales. tl;dr buyers search their real size, so if your item for sale equals their real size, it will likely fit them physically so as long as it's mentioned along with tag size, you should have your based covered.

If its less than 1 inch difference then I just put a statement in the comments that "my measurements show the waist size closer to 31 inches versus the tag size of 32 inches" then they know these are going to be a snug fit.
