I love finding bonus items inside other purchases! Even better, this happened to me last week: I trash picked a Garmin iQue PDA, in box with a lot of accessories (now listed for $35). It was the Monday after a citywide yard sale, so leftovers. Inside the box was a Best Buy gift card. I called to see if there was a balance, and my mind was blown to find out it still has $166 on it!!! My kind of trash pick!

Shipping Tip! Don't ship something in a cylindrical tube if you can help it. I did that for the first time with UPS for an LED light bar, the cylinder was a 4" diameter so I input the measurements as 4"x4"x16" and shipped it out. A few days later I got an adjustment that more than DOUBLED the shipping cost because it was an "Irregular Shape". Kind of interesting.
@dereksneed32786 ай бұрын
Yes, FedEx, UPS and some service levels of USPS will have a surcharge for that “irregular” shape, since they say it’s hard to get an accurate barcode scan (rolling around on belt) so they have to handle it. All 3 of them offer a branded box they call a “tube”, which is actually a triangular shipping box.

The other benefits to variation listings are reduced amount of listings and more multiple item orders. If you are approaching your selling limits, selling 250 different baseball cards from a set in one listing can save your limits. The other more important reason is people are more likely to buy four cards from that one listing than to buy those same four cards at once from your thousands of cards in your store. On low value cards, getting multiple items sold in one order is a game changer even with heavy discounts, simply from saving on $0.30 per order final value fees and from less shipping costs. I can see these benefits holding true with categories like DVDs or video games, etc. Compact items (that ship well in quantity) that are not unique (commodity type items), especially when you can replenish the listing. The listings are a pain to make but it’s super simple to add items too it later on

I had to stop selling Cuisinart food processors all together due to my account getting suspended multiple times. I was parting them out like you but the eBay AI picked all my part listings with Cuisinart food processors in the title or description and pulled them down then dinged me because there was a huge blade recall on all of the vintage units like the DLC-8. I had to keep calling and calling and making my case then waiting for the appeals to resolve in my favor. My store was hidden for probably a week in total while all this happened over the course of three months. Question: AND pet peeve. How do you handle it, when a buyer purchases an item through and offer you accepted. But THEN (only afterward), before they make the payment. they start asking questions (ie. What condition is this in? Will this fit my 14 year old Poodle? Does this part fit my 1972 Dodge Coronet. etc...) - I always get aggravated and say to myself "Why didn't you ask questions BEFORE you bought it". Grrr... One benefit of listing seasonal items off season is there is less competition, fewer items for sale. Also, summer items can sell in the winter as people take trips to warmer places. Same with winter items in summer. People can travel to colder climates in summer.

Turning on free returns was one of the best things I did for my store. I also have RMA returns turned off. It's fantastic in many of my cases. If people have a *true* problem, it's a hands off approach that's fast and easy for the buyer. If it's a buyer's remorse return as a Top Rated Seller, I deduct the shipping costs (and extra if the item's condition is changed in any way) and eventually resell the item anyways. The reality is that not many people really return items as they are typically happy with their purchase. You then get the people who want to play chicken with you or bait you into giving full/partial refunds for whatever reason. In that case, you simply get to respond with "Hello sir or madam, please return the item. I have free returns on everything!"😂
@jfgibson736 ай бұрын
So you can only deduct the shipping costs of a free return if you are Top Rated?
@RetroSho6 ай бұрын
@@jfgibson73 Yep. It’s one of the perks of being a Top Rated seller. You can deduct the shipping fees AND up to 50% of the value of the item (if you so choose) if the item is damaged or altered in any way. What I do is just deduct shipping if it’s a buyers remorse purchase. If the item is damaged to an extent, I deduct an extra 25-50%. If the item was brand new and opened, I deduct the full 50%. If the item was stolen or completely destroyed, I contact eBay (very rare). In all other cases (item lost in transit, item non functional after receipt, ordered by mistake) I’ll give full refund (after getting the item back if applicable). You don’t get these perks if you don’t offer free (30 or 60 day) returns. You also don’t have protection from negative feedback either.

Is there any benefit in that, or is it generally unnecessary and/or a waste of time? Thanks!

As to #2, our “disclaimer” had grown too long and cumbersome, like a weekend homework assignment. I liked it, but was always tweaking it and then updating older listings as offers went out. What changed? As much as I thought it good, informative business, in the day & age of dumbing down & even dumber, it was a waste of time and my mental space. As much as I LOATHE AI and especially eBay’s AI, I figured that they invested in it and want us to use it… and I’m hoping to find at least a modicum of favor w/ the algorithm “gods” there. It’s easier on my wife who does our listings. People don’t read the information providers them, if they do many can’t process it (or the language itself written in).. eBay lore has it that you’re lucky to have the avg buyer look past even the 3rd photo!! I’d rather blow off the loony Lou’s up front rather than on the back side where I pay their return shipping. Works for me. In 2000 listings sold I have had only 4 not as described returns and they all were false reports. I’m fine with those stats. How do you determine individual cost of bundles you buy? For example if I buy a bundle of video games/console and sell them separately on eBay how do I determine the cost of each item?
@laurieblanchard11715 ай бұрын
I think he said in another video that he calculates the average for total items ÷ total cost. So if you bought 9 games plus the console for $50, then you theoretically spent $5 on each item.

Is there a way to get a listing reinstated that was removed for a "product safety reason?" It was a replacement blade for a recalled food processor blade for Cuisinart DLC-8. I've sold the same style blade twice in the past with no issues and there are multiple of them listed now, but they removed mine. I called and the eBay rep wasn't helpful. I tried explaining that the blade I'm listing isn't the recalled blade, but that it replaced the recalled blade but she didn't seem to care.
@Wilbe3276 ай бұрын
I had a similar issue for a Cuisinart blade. Ebay pulled the listing. I didn't look into it since I'm parting out the whole system and figure I'll make it up and not worry about the one blade. Unlike Justin though, I've not had any traction yet on any of the parts. Trying to be patient but confess to some sale envy by hearing others getting theirs. 😄
@adjhunts8116 ай бұрын
@@Wilbe327 those blades are the most valuable part to me and the main reason I pick the processors up when I see them. Just not sure why they decide to pull some listings and not all and reference a recall that doesn't apply to this blade. This is the fix, not the problem.

Bought a backpack for $12 at Goodwill. Found a vintage Discontinued tiny leathermen with the case in the pocket. Leatherman sold for $99 same day I posted, and I'm still sitting on the backpack that hasnt sold =)

Had usps claim something was nearly 17 lbs when I said 8 and somehow a listing changed from calculated to free shipping. Never had a rebate!! Makes me wonder if there’s a glitch going on.

Question: if you are just starting out, do you think it makes sense to cater towards the impossible to please buyers just to get the sale? I had one person like that and I blocked the account after the item was delivered. Granted, I specialize in retail orchid sales which is a little different.
@patland17626 ай бұрын
Orchid sales? Way cool! Many years ago I used to have an orchid collection of around 2,500 pots and maybe another thousand at my mother's house. Per your question I have been selling over 20 years on ebay and I do whatever is necessary to keep 100% positive feedback. Starting out the 100% feedback is super important. I block too LOL.

Hi Justin, I have been taking down items a year or older and selling similar with new photos and more information. I’ve noticed when I do take down listings my sales become very slow for a few days. Is this normal? I thought selling similar was something we should do when items get stale. Thanks for your advice.

I’m prepping an England football jersey to list as I’m watching your video! My question: I know it doesn’t make sense, but it almost seems like the more items I list, the slower my sales get. Is it possible that when you pass a certain number of listings that eBay moves your selling account into some sort of bracket that has you competing with a larger pool of sellers?
@larrycoonrod55635 ай бұрын
How many items you have listed is not a factor in Ebay sales. It has more to do with the desirability of items and number of the same items listed and the quality of listings. Are you selling in a category where other sellers are promoting their items? Try sorting by lowest price first. That is the most common sort option buyers use. How close to the lowest price are you?

Hey Justin, thanks for your videos! We always learn something every time we watch. Question for you: We have a buyer who wants to return something, but insists on mailing the package back by asking for our address instead of opening a return request. We've asked several times, but they won't do it and the return window of thirty days is almost up. What would you do?
@helpfulcommenter6 ай бұрын
report them to ebay
@larrycoonrod55635 ай бұрын
It's on them if they don't open a return request. You don't have to issue a refund with a return request. I try to explain that it protects them and us.
@helpfulcommenter5 ай бұрын
@@larrycoonrod5563 yeah but they should be reported to ebay for trying to do something sus off ebay instead of just following the policies.

I was also refunded some money on shipping last week. Summer slow down hit me on Friday. I've had no sales. Oh that reminds me Justin, do you ever run sales on your items? Especially older inventory

Hi Justin - I am trying Flipwise. So far I like it, however, how do I handle items that sell on other platforms? Is there a place to note that after an item is ended on Ebay? For example, today I sold a pair of capris on Poshmark and had to end the listing on Ebay. So, I find that I still need to go to my Google Sheet and enter that information. Just curious if I've missed something or something like that is planned...Thanks in advance. I love your videos. Gina

I send a lot of offers. Lately, I have noticed that I have buyers with zero feedback accept those offers and do not pay or respond after I send a message on day one or two. I then end up canceling early and do not wait the full four days Ebay recommend/requires? Do you do anything similar? How do you handle this situation? Thanks!

That's an interesting point about SEO, on long term listings. I might try a variations listing with 100 games and see how those sales go versus my regular postings. Thanks.

Probably been answered a million times but I’ll ask again, do you suggest using a tool to make the background white or just placing the item on a white background? We’ve had a few times the customers thought we were using stock photos and eBay one time stepped in saying we can’t use stock when we were not. I know a while back eBay made a big deal about using a white background for better search results.
@helpfulcommenter6 ай бұрын
as a freqeunt buyer of clothing on ebay, i hate it when people use editing software to remove backgrounds and make it pure white. it removes context from the lightiing scenario so i can't be sure that i'm seeing what i think i'm seeing. i prefer listings that show the object on a white or neutral background so shadows and tone make contextual sense. that's how i take my own photos, using a neutral light gray backdrop.
@pkzenk21586 ай бұрын
@@helpfulcommenterjust curious.. if as you say you buy a lot of clothing, are you sourcing online (to flip it)? I’m envious of folks savvy enough to do that, I’m convinced a good portion of what I painstakingly pick is bought by other resellers to flip on their platform(s).

I've always done no returns accepted to cut down on the BS.The buyer can still return it due to ebay siding with not as described automatically but then you can send a physical letter to ebay legal by their guidelines. If the complaont is something that was described and no returns, you get your shipping costs and fees back. A perfect example is I sold a "broken for parts only" and described the problem and they returned it due to the exact problem described. I'm sure they thought they could fix it, then couldn't, then wanted to return it. So I shouldn't have to eat the $50 shipping and fees cost. And I didn't because I set no returns accepted and sent a physical letter to ebay legal.
