I do think it is so important not to use plastic straws but I read an article that said a huge amount of the plastic killing animals is lost fishing nets/gear and bigger plastic containers. I think the most important thing for us is to do everything we can to avoid single use plastic and to spread awareness. More and more people will (hopefully) start to become eco friendly once they notice everyone else doing it.

@@roberthollandsworth1809 Personaly I didnt think putting both the final candidates in charge was a good idea at all, thus I anulated my vote. Most people wanted to believe in his "new politics" speeches, and that he was gonna "rid the country of corruption", and when the 2nd turn of the elections happened it was either him or a politician from far left, from a party that had been ruling the country for 13 years, with dozens of corruption scandals and a president (Dilma) who couldn't even form proper sentences during her speeches, thus, most people voted for him. Now he's basicly putting people he's close with in positions of power despite of their lack competence and most people who voted on him are just turning a blind eye for every decision, decree, etc he takes against them. My bet is that in 14 years people are going to hate him for everything he messed up just like people today hate Lula, a president who also messed a lot of shit up and people turned a blind eye when he did. *TLDR:* People make stupid decisions, mainly when your country's average education rate sucks ass, both candidates in the election are two sides of the same coin, both incompetent, both carismatic, both wanting to impose their party's agenda instead of representing the people who put them in charge and fooling the entire population while doing so.

If we go on like this, we still have eight years before we reach 1.5 degrees. .. According to all reputable scientists, at 1,5 degree therre is no going back , everything goes down... 8 years and there are still people in leadership positions which deny the climate change ... People need to stop worrying about the Planet while doing nothing . Would be much better if they focused in their local regions , fixing problems in a local area , that would be faster and people would recognize the differences between before and after . And if most people did this and fixed their local problems we would be solving the planet problem too if that is possible , if it is not possible at least we would be fixing our own damage . About energy is very obviously that our energy needs will only increase with time , so we should focus on good , cheap and clean sources of energy , that would be nuclear reactors , thorium to be precise , that is much more safe than uranium/plutonium . Of course these reactors would need to be placed in areas where the natural disaster chance is very low , more likely the continent , people really need to stop putting nuclear powerplants near the ocean ( i know that they need the water source to refrigerate themselves ) in areas that a natural ocorrence of earthquakes and tsunamis >_> .

Sure its real. But I am not willing to send third world countries into even worse poverty over a couple degrees. Everybody loves to say how environmentally conscience they are while they buy a new phone every year and every other little bit of plastic. "We buy paper" ya cutting down all the trees is such a good strategy. Climate change is real, but most of humanity is too poor for it to be a concern. We as a species were born in a ice age. We conquered deserts, seas, jungles, swamps and forest. We will survive a slightly higher water level and a few more storms.

The only genuine threat to the planet itself is when the sun blows up in 11 billion years. Until then life will alwayse come and go like it always does. I am not denying global warming. Just saying all eras end with a extinction event. Global warming will be ours. Unless we get to space in time. Which just being honest im actually so hyped for i genuinly hope it happens. Don't get me wrong Texas is the best state in the US, but I just wanted to point out the irony that you are thanking a state that produces more oil than most countries. However Texas is to be fair one of the top states when it comes to the amount of renewable energy it produces.

I often think about a book I read a looooong time ago. I was in like first grade(I'm 20 now), so it was around 2007 and my school library had this large picture book-don't remember if it had any words or not-about a pretty much-uninhabited earth with only colonies of sheep who lived there. Anyways, the first pages were about how the sheep lived happily and peacefully just eating grass and drinking water but of course, one day they see a spaceship land and a bipedal, humanoid appears from inside and explores. He leaves back into space and I think I remember interpreting it as the sheep thinking he wouldn't return. Eventually, he does, but with his entire species on numerous ships. The humanoids seem excited to be there, and then quickly build their civilization. Their civilization expands fast with cars, roads, skyscrapers, and the like quickly taking over the vast grassy lands. The sheep are eventually pushed to live underground, in dark, damp caves with the only food to survive on is moss and the water that drips from above. The humanoids' development takes a turn for the worse, as their factories and such pollute the planet so bad the skies turn gray, turning the once beautiful and thriving lands into a polluted, soon-to-be wasteland. Unsatisfied with such living conditions, the humanoids board the spaceships they used to arrive, leaving the desolate planet behind. After some time passes, the sheep realize the humanoids abandoned ship, and venture upwards in hopes to feed upon delicious grass and fresh water. However, they discover the wasteland the humanoids left, and travel for a long while, and I think they find a river and grass growing over the cracked roads and broken buildings. They are content once again. It is implied that the humanoids never learn their lesson, and will keep exploring to pollute healthy planets to suit their desires over and over. Or at least, I think it was implied. Sorry, this is long, and I'm not thinking anyone will care much for this story but I read this book when I was 5?? and I still remember the gist of this story to this day even though I don't ever remember having a single birthday party in my life. I understood the humanoids repeating history in their path to neglect planets and that harmless creatures are only hurt due to this lack of care for the earth. I understood that this was meant to show this was a possibility that could happen to our society because of the immense disregard for the planet. I think about this story a lot, I'm not sure why but I think it's because I felt so bad for the cute sheep as a kid. This is also why it is important to bring topics like this in various forms. From jokes to video games to children's books. A lack of exposure, understanding, and empathy will be our downfall, and spreading the word can cause us to be like those humanoids. But it sounds like it might happen eventually with people searching for other inhabitable planets while polluting ours. Of course, you could also interpret the ending as, "with humans gone, everything will return to natural order" but that's a biiiiiit,,,, yknow for a children's book haha. On another note, being in America(unsure if it's like this elsewhere) makes it really hard to contribute to saving the earth. In some cities, they are strict with the separation of trash and recyclables. But in the cities next door, they don't require/care for recycling. And sometimes the city will say they want you to separate them but actually just dumps them in the same area/containment(or something idk where they take it). It gets frustrating when you care for the earth but the government doesn't. Or your neighbors. But hey! Its America! We want to do whatever we want bc we are individuals and we don't care if we burn the planet or poison our water! As long as I get my amazon package I just ordered by tonight, any consequences for my actions are not mine to deal with!! If you care about it, then its your problem >:(( edit: okay I found it but its not sheep, they're called 'Wumps'. I just remembered them being sheep?? It's "The Wump World" by Bill Peet and its almost as I remember it.

Shay Nuclear plants can actually be problematic in terms of heat pollution, but as long as it’s properly managed it can be made negligible. Obviously better than coal plant pollution still!

Here’s the thing. I don’t believe in climate change. I don’t want to bicker today, just talk. That doesn’t mean I’m against better, more efficient energy. And I’m totally for recycling. And saving endangered species because THAT is real. What I’m against is something that I see a lot here in the US. That is politicians on the left are trying to use climate change to force their agendas. And I get it, both sides push their agendas, what I don’t like is that our Democratic politicians keep taking serious stuff like global warming and our latest pandemic in order to do stuff like push socialism (which honestly won’t work in such a large country it works best in small countries with low immigration so not the US)

Taxe'sStuff do you remember Al Gore? His predictions won him the Nobel Prize. He talk about how the costal cities were gonna be underwater within five years. It’s been 14 years and we’re still good. Not to mention that it is honestly a little egotistical to think that one or two hundred years of human CO2 emissions could ruin billions of years of natural processes. And although I don’t believe in global warming that doesn’t mean I’m against finding newer, green energy, especially if it helps our economy (cause the capitalist in me can’t help it lol). What I’m against is putting our nation(s) at economic and military weakness over a doomsday that has been being preached for decades but never comes. Don’t get me wrong, I want to protect the planet (endangered species, water sources, clean air, etc.) I just don’t like the extreme politics getting involved.

Climate change makes me feel trapped. being 12 years old I don’t have a voice but there is so much to be said and the people who can say things and get heard aren’t doing anything. I don’t want to be in constant fear that I will never live past 30-40. And I am in constant fear. I’ve had a teacher tell my class climate change is not real. I want to grow up in a safe earth I want to be thinking about class not climate change. I just want to be scared of the dark not in fear for my life.

The problem is that people see climate as a short-term (year by year) change and not a long term (at least one human lifetime). If you ask older people in a more temperate climate if they remember there being more cold days in winter and/or less scorching hot days 40 years ago than today, then the trend becomes a lot clearer.

I'm by no means supporting global warming, climate change is a real issue, but I find it so narcissistic that people go "we are killing the planet!" "Only we can save Earth by recycling!" The planet honestly doesn't give a shit about humans. It will go in the opposite direction to keep itself in balance. If people keep doing this shit, the planet will just readjust itself, probably killing humanity in the process. Jellyfish are loving the polluted oceans, for example. Their predators die from confusing them with plastic bags and choking on them, and they are very tolerant of rising marine carbon dioxide levels. They are likely to proliferate in a warmer and increasingly acidic ocean. So really, don't do stop climate change to save the planet. Do it to save your own butt, because humans are, in the long run, the real victims here.

The way I see it is even if climate change isn't real or it's not caused by humans (it most certainly is both of those things), it's still to our benefit to stop pollution and use renewable energy. We also benefit from preserving biodiversity. It's not as if we'd be doing these things for nothing, climate change aside. But I also think a lot of people need to do more, even people who regularly talk about it. Obviously not everyone has the money, time, or space to do everything possible for climate change, but I don't think it's much to ask for everyone to make a few lifestyle changes to help stop (or at least slow down) climate change.
