Happy memories. My mum went there as a child in the 1930s and later, when she was married, she took me and my sister there. Good memories of eating there with my grandma and great aunty. I now live in Spain but go to the Cottage whenever I'm back in England. The family has been visiting the Cottage for 90 years now

Enjoyed your review as always Lee, so much so that we went there yesterday as we have lived in Blackpool for 25 years now and had never even heard of The Cottage, unfortunately our experience was not a good one. We had two lite bites that cost us £9.00 each (to sit in the restaurant), the lady was good enough to let us swap bread and butter for another sauce as we wanted to try the mushy peas as well as the curry sauce. The food came and looked lovely apart from the chips which were quite scrappy and nowhere near as big as the chips you had, the fish was not cooked as much as it could have been (batter was kind of damp on the bottom ), the curry sauce was not nearly hot enough, in fact I would say nearly cold and the mushy peas could also have been hotter. The food kept repeating on me and even as I am typing this I can still taste the food (24 hours later!). I have to agree the staff were lovely so that would up my score from 7 to 7 1/2 out of 10. I hate to have to write this comment but I do feel it needed to be said. I guess we must have been unlucky up to your experience.

As an American, I recognized John Major, Jeremy Clarkson and Prince Charles, though now King Charles, who I assume was never actually at The Cottage, it must have been the fellow who interviewed him. The food looked great though the chips did look a little under done and inconsistent in shape. Seems like a nice place and nice people. Funny how you in the UK love fried fish and we love fried chicken. I wonder if you had the best fried chicken up against the best fried fish what most people would choose? Great review Lee.. I grew up in Blackpool in the 60's and early 70's before emigrating to South Africa. Our family would regularly visit the Cottage for fish and chips and back then they were fabulous. I remember they used to do fish in huge sizes by weight over and above the usual medium and large. Silver Hake was our favorite back then and yes (I'm sorry for you) the skin was always on in those days.. Typically, my Mom used to say " it was the best part of the fish" I last visited there 7 years ago and was glad to see it was still one of the best.. Glad you enjoyed it ..keep up the good work..

You should have caught a number 3 bus! Funnily, last year the Cottage opened a second chippy, much nearer the Prom! They took over the closed Squires Gate chippy on Squires Gate Lane, just around the corner from the southern end of the illuminations. The Heritage trams even chose it for their fish & chip tram that had previously used a now closed chippy in Fleetwood, but this year, they're using Papas, so I'm not sure if the Squires Gate Cottage survivied! The original's a lovely chippy though!

Bobby ball and les Dawson both lived in the area and both have statues up in memory of them. Les in St. Anne’s and Bobby’s in Lowther gardens, Lytham which only went up about a month ago. Also, cottage have a sister shop on squires gate lane near me. Great video. Xxx

I used to go to the cottage chip shop regularly but it has CHANGED HANDS a few times since. YouCan PARK outside the shop which is in SOUTH SHORE about 2 miles from BLACKPOOI TOWN CENTRE.They will give whatever size of fish you want and have a very good selection.IT USED to be EXCELLENT but it’s about 10 years since I have eaten there.

This is my go to every time for a chippy tea..fish, chips, mushy peas and curry (with scraps) ...if I'm being a pig...maybe a slice of bread for a butty washed down with a can of pop. I wonder if you placed your hands beneath the table it would reveal a special drawer upon which an out of tune keyboard would be presented - by all accounts he was quite accomplished on the piano and great on the guitar! Loved the tour of all the old much loved stars of the past/present. Lovely plate of food - but I think you already know that 'green mush' for me would have to be replaced by 'golden baked beans'! Always good to know where these excellent food outlets are should we ever travel northwards. Great review - and good to know that the staff are looking after people's pockets in these days of tightening the belt.

The fish and chips look fantastic and very good value. I had cod and chips from my local chippy here in South Lincolnshire on Thursday and it was £7. But also very, very tasty. I'm not keen on mushy peas and I don't like any sauces with my fish and chips. Just salt and vinegar, however I don't let the chippy put on their own vinegar, I plan ahead to eat in my car, so I bring my own bottle of Sarsons. Best time to go to any chippy is just after they open when everything is lovely and fresh.
