Napoleon Ohio, near Toledo Ohio, near Detroit Michigan has a Campbell Soup Plant that also made/stored Banquet Fried Chicken since at least 1976 when I worked there, and in the Company Store you could buy discount bags of the unwanted rejected pieces, which I would buy to have handy for a quick snack, and way before microwaves. Oven baked, is the best for any Banquets Meal, even a Pot Pie.😃

I grew up poor, so I love Banquet Chicken. If it's not moist enough, dump some brown gravy on it. Add some instant potatoes. Dip your chicken in the potatoes and gravy, and you have a legendary bite. Poor people eat good.

Banquet chicken is DELICIOUS to this day. I bake it in the oven and when it's almost done I take it out and cover it with BBQ sauce and put it back in the oven to finish cooking. Um um um. Back in the day there used to be Swanson's fried chicken TV dinners. It was very good! The crust was a cornmeal type breading and well seasoned. Bone-in just like Banquet. They no longer have Swanson's fried chicken. I read that Swanson's has now become Hungry Man TV dinners but the chicken is NOT the same as it was when it was Swanson's.

For about 10 years it was 8 dollars a box. I used to try to keep it for the fried chicken cravings that can hit at 11pm or 7am...lol. its too expensive now for the quality. It's 12 a box where i am. The best way to prepare it IMO is microwave it to about 70 percent warm then chunk it in a toaster oven on toast until youre satisfied with how it looks. Used to be pretty delicious for frozen chicken. It honestly WAS better until the last few years. Back in the 80s it was the best. I'm not paying 12 bucks for mystery pieces today....but totally grooved on always having some when it was 8.

$16.49 for a box of Banquet fried chicken is absolutely crazy to me. When I was a kid 50 years ago, my Mom frequently bought it and back then it cost between$2.00 to $2.50 for a box of 10 pieces. I thought it was delicious. I haven't had any in over 30 years and have no idea if it's as good today as it was back then. It was extremely popular in the 1970s, it was delicious and inexpensive! I remember the first time my future brother in law came to our house for dinner in 1971, my Mom served it. He thought she cooked it herself and said it was some of the best fried chicken he'd ever eaten!

Mr Chicken is now part of the Chicken strip known as Plymouth Road. If you start at Mr Chicken, and head west, you have KFC, Chick Fil A, Big Chicken ( replaced Chicken Guy) , Hangry Joe’s hot chicken, Lee’s Chicken, all in a 2 mile stretch. And there is Popeye’s Chicken one mile north on Middlebelt. That’s 7 chicken places you should hit on your next episode. BTW, we had Banquet chicken a couple of times a month on Sundays, back in the 70s. Haven’t had it since. I sort of remember wings in the 70s included in the boxes. More breading than chicken on the wings.

When they came in paper containers we'd usually cook them in the big oven, but later they came in plastic containers and we'd cook those in the microwave. Remember, we didn't have all the chicken competitors we have today! There was KFC, but it was more expensive as the ad quoted. We didn't have air fryers either! I like it. I love it. You can buy a cheaper at the Dollar general store in Pittsburgh. But it's not bad 3:00 in the morning in the freezer

I purchase fresh fried chicken from Kroger grocery store. I place the chicken in my freezer and air fryer a few pieces occasionally. 99% of the time it is delicious.

It's been a long time.....but I remember buying this chicken for about $2.99. Anybody remember the Banquet boil-in-bag entrees? This was before microwaves were commonplace.

I remember having that chicken back in the day. Fried chicken is one of my favorite foods. It definitely doesn't compare to fresh fried chicken from a restaurant. However, it IS still fried chicken. Compared to fast food fried chicken, I might even say it is a bad fried chicken. But... hear me out... it is still fried chicken. It is still one of the best foods known to man. So even a "bad" fried chicken is still pretty good. I remember it having a tasty, but heavy breading. I think we baked it. I kinda remember some of the pieces being weird... LIke I don't know what kind of pieces they were, but then again... it was still fried chicken... and that ain't bad. I think your review was pretty fair!

From a family perspective, no, it's really expensive but some people don't realize. It says 42 oz on the box and that's what you get. You could have three pieces of chicken weighing that much which I have gotten + other packages. You could have eight pieces. It all depends on the that weight of the product and personally me being single retired. It's a good alternative for me. I've always liked it and I actually microwave it and it is very acceptable. It still comes out a little crispy and only takes about 9 minutes to cook

If you want the good stuff you need a time machine set to about 1974. When I was a 10 year old this chicken was more desirable than dessert. In the mind of a child the cook-time on a box of Banquet chicken was about a day and a half.

Just buy Jollibee chicken and freeze it as well as buy an extra order of its large gravy&freeze it too. I usually cut the frozen gravy into quarters and put it in ziplocks&back into the freezer. As for the frozen chicken, just defrost it properly as if u put it in the microwave from frozen it dries out. Airfry it after defrosting&then microwave it a bit to ensure that the insides' warmed up.

Banquet is nowhere near that expensive in Houston. That almost $17 price tag shocked me.

Just looked up the price in Houston for this same big box they sell and it's the same price range, within a buck of what I paid.

@HeySeanEly Damn, I haven't bought that box in a few years. I remember when it was around $12 or $13. I thought back then that was a bit much, but still pretty reasonable for what it was. The same thing for nearly $17 is ridiculous. Edit: I had to make a run to "Family Dollar" for a couple of non food related items and decided to check out the price of the Banquet assorted pieces box. It's $12. Now I feel compelled to buy it simply because of how much it costs elsewhere.

I have considered trying it so many times I've truly lost count lols. After seeing this i think I am going to finally give it a try with some homemade gravy etc. I mean It can't be any worse than some of the foods you get in Family Dollar that has the taste of the way the store itself smells. Just got some tortillas yesterday and tasted like someone sprayed them with the stores scent lols
