From my experience if u ever want a guaranteed new LF unit is save up 10K and only summon on that LF banner, for ultras idk I usually try not to summon ultras bc they aren't F2P friendly so stick to LFs and saving up 10k

Personally me who is also a f2p I see that saving up cc and getting an lf with a kit that's gonna age like fine wine (prime example is mvp 17) and get them to high stars and if you feeling lucky go for an ultra but just know ultra units age worse than lf units
