Fun fact: With the right tactics you can actually beat him before upgrading your watch. The lower your watch rank, the higher his befriending odds.

You can also use the photo yo kai thing to get a bunch of exp orb to make your yo kai busted and destroy him,and befriend him (since the first yo kai you find in the game will always befriend you)

I did a nuzlocke of this game in my free time and only had 3 deaths. Jibanyan got killed by Venoct because my healer (Shadow Venoct ironically) decided to not do anything. The other 2 deaths were my only healer at the time (Tattletell) and Walkappa who got one-shot by Castelius III's soultimate (somehow Cadable, who also got hit by it survived)

I beat him by just using the camera thing quest to get a bunch of holy exporbs and then using them on Cadin till he evolved.

I actually did a few nuzlockes myself. I limited myself to one yo-kai per area and one per dungeon (alleys included) and found that it makes a world of difference! Happy to see people try this challenge in 2024!

Yeah, this series REALLY is not designed for hardcore challenges like that because the game has ACTUAL bosses with massive HP that take hardcore players in mind from the start. Not to mention, the game actually expects you to be able to teambuild. You have to be able to get as many monsters as possible as opposed to limiting your options with a Nuzlocke so you have Tanks to help you reduce incoming damage, Healers to reliably keep your HP topped off and Rangers for extra support effecfs. You can't just fill your team with Fighters and expect that to go very far especially woth how the bosses are designed. It's not like Pokemon where you get rewarded for mashing A on attacks like a dumb monkey.

Yeah, I agree that ykw is pretty clunky when you try to apply nuzlocke rules to it but it is definitely possible. We just need to keep figuring out better rules and maybe even some mods that will make the experience better. Still, it works better than most other games as a nuzlocke.

you know nuzlocks say the run doesn’t start until you get poke balls so maybe another rule should be it doesn’t start until you complete chapter 1

Funny thing: Snartle’s level is directly tied to the rank of the Yokai watch (you can rank up the watch to let it see higher level yokai). I’m pretty sure at the start of the game his level is around 16 (which is ridiculously higher than the level intended for the starting rank). If you’re willing to grind a bit at the start of the game, you could try to farm red lights for the opportunity to get a level 16 Snartle at the start. (Be warned this tactic only really works in Yokai watch 1, because in 2 if you keep breaking the rules over and over again, you instead fight a super boss Oni instead of snartle on the 3rd or 4th skipped light).

I played the 2 and 3 part "only" but loved every sec of it, even played them multiple times and im happy the yo kai lineage gets some recognition. Even if it might look derpy and childish it is quite unique and so good story wise and you got so much story in one game for a pretty good price. I'm quite sad the switch games didnt make it out of the asian region but still it made a huge part of my childhood

So you know how you need a few specific yo kai to get legendaries (like for shogunyan you need dismerelda, jibanyan, Hapierre, castellius 3rd, etc...). You can only use yo kai required for legendaires or the legendary itself (unless you're forced to use another, like at the start of the game)

Ahhh omigosh seeing Yokai Watch content in the wild is so cool! Its my favourite game series so its nice to see more people talking about it! U should 100% give it another go, or try it on YKW2 since it might be a bit easier (however thats game is a lot longer than 1 so a loss would be far more devastating than jaywalking)

If you do end up doing another nuzlocke you should know that as soon as the game opens up to you you gain access to the sewers(with difficult yo-kai) and the two alleys in uptown Springdale alongside a portion of Mount wildwood making it much easier to get more yo-kai(in addition most nuzlocke yo-kai watch rules I've seen include a clause that the areas to befriend are refreshed when you upgrade your watch(although I'd personally exclude alleys and dungeons from that since they don't change from the upgrade))

With how hectic later bosses can become and also how much Yokai dying in battle can snowball if not fixed in my personal nuzlocke I made the role of while I could use revival items in battle if a Yokai is dead when the battle is finished they’re dead for good (and if that sounds too easy you can add the specification you can only use the weakest revive in the game)

If u want a more strategic game and more adapted to nuzlocke u can try yokai watch 3 there's a system where u can move ur team members so they can protect each other/get in attack formation and also an item to guarantee friendship and overall more team options

TLDR my rules and experience doing a nuzlocke on this and some tips i'm actually doing a nuzlocke for the switch version (its only in japanese but i understand the 3ds game well enough to play it) and i am using a personalised set based of abdallah's first yokai that approaches you must accept and 1 crank a kai per watch rank alongside standard rules and also used the wifi download for 5 star coins (switch only but in 3ds you get all tribe coins). i also allow myself to use the inital yokai from chapter 2 and after that 1 additional encounter for uptown springdale. here are some things i have to say about the run (i'm only just about to go to the construction site at night) terror time is terrifying if you get bad spawn luck. avoid all the crosswalks because snartle scales off watch rank. make sure your healer is tanky (i lost tattletell because she dies in 2 hits to slimamander) farm noko till level 15-20 next to shoten temple before gaining access to night movement (you can pause the game with the start button just before noko moves to freeze them). spam food like your life depends on it. and use tribe synergies. also note the first yokai defeated during chapter 2 is an automatic befreind (i took advantage of this and the yokai cam to get a level 35 evolved cadin to kill and get a snartle from the start because its the statistically hardest to befriend) even if my personal rule set does differ to the one you use these tips should help regardless if you go again. in general its just nice to see someone talking about the game. also another reason this run is probably alive is the fact i pulled goldenyan. all i hope is that this isnt too lengthy so if someone needs me to explain something in greater depth just ask and ill elaborate.
