I bagged out on mullet on the Barwon River

I fished the Barwon River one afternoon and absolutely bagged out on mullet. The fish were biting non stop and I had a blast.
I cast in a number of times using a berley cage filled with berley. This attracted the fish to my target zone and the action was hot.
I did miss a lot of bites but when there are so many fish in front of you it is hard not to catch a few.
After a few hours I’d caught a heap and took a few good ones home for dinner.
What a great afternoon’s fishing.

I used to fish around the area you're showing in the vid, but you should try the Ocean Grove Boat Ramp. It's on the Barwon River and i find there is a lot more activity and a lot of species there, even though it's less than 2 km from where you fish.

So you finally took some fish home to eat - are they easy to clean , easy to cook and nice flavour ? Are they also called bay trout ?

Hi, mullet are not bay trout. Bay trout is another name for Australian Salmon. As far as eating mullet, many people say they have a bland taste. I tend to agree but when you cook them with a bit of garlic, butter, lemon, salt and pepper they taste pretty good to me. They are easy to gut and clean. When you gut them make sure you get rid of the black substance that lines the inside of the back bone, this doesn't taste good. Other than that they are fine.

Hi, yes there are some really good size trevally, bream, pinkies and mulloway. Mullet are the most numerous and seem to get to the bait first.
