This is the first KH2 speedrun I've actually seen, and I find it really odd that guardian is the one picked. I honestly would have expected one of the offensive ones to be optimal, but that just shows how little I really know about it all.

The choice between sword, shield, and staff only affects the order you learn your abilities, and on Crit most people go shield because it lets you learn Once More the earliest as insurance against an unlucky combo (1:37:15). Not sure how much of an offensive boost you can get from picking one of the other two, but my guess is that most runners just prefer the consistency. You also get Second Chance the earliest at level 49 with shield, but that's a lot higher level than you usually get in a speedrun. This also means that the choice doesn't matter at all in Level 1 runs.

Similar to KH1, where you'd think Sword or even Shield is picked, but they actually pick Staff because it gives you an additional MP, which is invaluable for extra Cures whereas the boost in Power or Def very quickly becomes negligible.

@@Henhenz1 Just to add on this. You get Item Boost at Level 7 AND Combo Boost at Level 9 if you pick the Shield unlike on the other choices where you get Experience Boost and one of the two abilities.

I strong agree with the discussion around 35 min. I think the hate for 3 is a little heavy handed, by the pacing is just terrible. I don't like that they made the disney worlds feel like busy work just to get to the important plot points at the very end. At least with 2 even if the disney stuff isn't incorporated with the main plot, at least main plot elements are sprinkled throughout. KH3 just ended with a lore dump that made it unsatisfying to me. That being said, I think the hate for 3 will eventually die down a bit.

Huh, main plot stuff sprinkled through the game? That's literally KH3, KH2 has nothing plot wise outside the beginning, middle and end, KH3 has an org in every world detailing plot details and their plans, and significant cutscenes after every single world.

I wish the Disney Worlds in 3 had a better build-up to the big payoff at the end. I don't dislike them as-is, but in relation to the big plot, they really could've made it lead in to the finale and everything else just that bit better. Would've been good to have some Org fights sprinkled in, even if they weren't their final final defeats. Then again, I think 2 has the worst gameplay-cutscene ratios in the series as well as the worst Disney worlds, so I might be a bit biased.
