Made My Girlfriend Play Kingdom Hearts

To the girlfriend seeking freedom, this island is a prison surrounded by water.
What started off as merely a joke car on the way home from the store, quickly developed into a full half an hour video right before our eyes. She wanted answers, and in instead I made my girlfriend play Kingdom Hearts. Of course the story of Kingdom Hearts has gotten so incredibly complex over the years that I'm completely out of the loop these days. Either way having her play through the series could be a fun way to brush up on the game lore and relive some good memories from growing up. She just has to be careful because the closer she gets to the light, the stronger her shadow becomes.

To be fair, think she typically does strength builds with giant weapons in Dark Souls. With that kind of build in Dark Souls, with enough grinding, you can cut through gods like cutting butter with a flaming chainsaw.

When I was a kid there were a lot of power outages and autosave wasn't the industry default. I also had a habit of tripping over wires. I still anxiously save and make backup saves. Also the fact that Seymour can cast petrify and just yeet your summons nearly made me cry as a kid.

The first time I played Kingdom Hearts, I used every optional character I could because I wanted to play with them to see how they fought. But every other time I played, I always kept the core three... Sora, Donald, Goofy. Goofy turns into a shockingly good powerhouse, and Donald is a pure lifesaver with his healing and area-effect spells. It was fun playing with Beast and Alice and Ariel and all the rest, but you just can't go wrong with Donald and Goofy. My boys! :D

Same here! It's weird NOT having Goofy and Donald, and they're my homies 4 lyfe. It's one of the many great changes KH3 made (kh1->kh3->KH2 is my personal list). That said, there's no such thing as a level gap in any of the kingdom hearts games. Even party members who were never put into your party and are in a completely different world share XP with you. Did you leave a world and come back? Guess what, Aladdin kept up. Party members are always either barely ahead of you (ie Goofy) or barely behind (Donald)

Seeing someone experience Kingdom Hearts for the first time going into it not knowing anything is a beautiful sight, even with how convoluted things may seem to get further down the rabbit hole. Even with my hazy memory I still remember the struggles I had of the original on PS2 as a kid, but the Final Mix helps out a lot with some of it nowadays, great video and looking forward to more shenanigans down the road.

My ex suffered HUGE time in Hollow Bastion and EotW. It was a stupid high difference, and mostly because it shifts a lot from simple platforming and straightforward hits to mages with lots of different attacks, quick turning shield dudes with slow telegraphed but very strong attacks, and bosses that are 100x harder, have a wider skillset, but they are all very well telegraphed too. For a Dark Souls beater, i fully expected nothing less from Tarin. Respect! Now put her to fight Kurt Zisa and Sephiroth.

13:03 "when I think of Kingdom Hearts, platforming is hardly the first thing to come to mind" - oddly, it was the first thing to come to mind when they started developing it. Some final fantasy devs looked at Mario 64 and said "we'd love to make a game like that, but you can't really compete with a world famous character like Mario if you're starting from scratch. You'd basically need Disney level iconic characters to do it". Although, I think it was more about the sense of freely exploring a world including verticality, rather than about the actual mechanics of platforming.

This is my first time hearing that anyone has trouble with Hollow Bastion, or that one room with a ton of enemies. Just dodge roll and attack whenever you have an opening. Stay mobile. It can get tedious, but it works.

I have a story regarding Kingdom Hearts. Back in the early 2000's when i got my PS2 (after i begged my father, for the permission to buy it), i had recently celebrated my birthday and had enough money to buy one game and at the time i was really into Dragon Ball and the first Budokai game had just come out. There where a couple of places where you could buy games in my hometown, but gaming was still a childrens niche. I found a copy of Budokai and put in the back row, to prevent people from taking it, while i got my money. But when i returned, the game was gone and nothing else on the shelf, had my interest. Disapointed i walked to another store nearby hoping to find a game and i stumpled upon a game called Kingdom Hearts. I hadn't heard about the game, but i knew the developer, as i was a big Final Fantasy fan og i loved the aestestic on the cover. So I bought the game and never looked back since

You should have her play horizon zero dawn and the last of us part one and 2. Those are my top tier ones so far. I just hope that she can get past the beginning of the last of us part 1 because that scene made me cry and I couldn’t play for a good couple of weeks. They really nail the emotion in characters and it’s by far a masterpiece. If she likes some cute and fun games, but also action packed she might try gravity rush 1 & 2. Everytime she squealed when a Disney world appeared or a character, it reminded me what Kingdom Hearts at it's core really is, we got so interested and involved in the story of these games, that we kinda forgot that feeling we had as kids, that feeling of magic and fantasy that was what made us really like Kingdom Hearts, and even to this day every single installment of KH has this magic in it, but we kinda push disney to the side nowadays to focus on the original characters and story, some poeple even wanting Disney to be out of Kingdom Hearts, I really hope KH never loses this formula, because deep down, Kingdom Heart IS DISNEY

You should have told her to scroll up for summons! And I did a magic run and I couldn't use the menu to select them, you chose 3/4 spells and use those for the fight (freeze, gravity, cure). Summons are overpowered but sooooo slow

i never took the shield even in proud mode bc of how much later you got SCAN as an ability in levels, it was smth crazy like lvl 9 w sword, 13 w wand and liek 23 for shield, if there was one thing i needed ASAP it was to see enemy healthbars bc my tiny brain could not process anything without it. never thought abt the actual effects of each choice tbh other than scan LMAO ;-;
