imo salazar is the hardest boss to fight legit. No bonus weapon or golden eggs. my first playthrough i spent most of my deaths fighting him. He was much easier in the original.

He is, in OG Salazar is just target practice, what you have to watch out for are the bugs he spawned, I practically beat him without using heal in highest difficulty. In the remake though, Salazar is fucking hard, tracking him to watch his attack patterns and then got blobbed into instakill/double goo barf combo was so brutal I can't even joke about people who wanted to skip him with golden egg.

he was super easy... all bosses were easy but i treated the game like the orig, use the broken butterfly for all bosses and focus on upgrading damage first since headshots are everything.

@@pablo4yu Yeah i used the other magnum with the laser i forgot what its called but tbh i think i was also just really unprepared for salazar when i got to him. I only had 2 heals and i was low on most of my ammo except rifle. and on my first play through i always upgrade the pistol first and then the riot shotgun and stingray idk why thats just how i always did i back then so i did the same.

I remember the first time I got to the Regenerador part, I barely had ammo left, let alone rifle ammo, so I thought "Fuck it, I'll use my knife" as I pretty much gave up hope. But lo and behold, to my surprise that using the knife against them is probably much better than shooting the plagas, unless I was just incredibly lucky that I was hitting the correct spots.

If you never noticed. After you get a few knifes. The only ones you can get are the ones pre loaded. But if you use them often, you keep getting them. Just like grenades and ammo. Use em and they spawn. Sell em and they spawn. Keep em and the game thinks you have enough.

Yeah I noticed ammo drops depending on which weapons you use in your arsenal. I always find magnum ammo after I use a bullet or 2.

Krauser was like mkay so Rookie made his way to me killing hordes of zombies, giants, undiscribable horrors and monsters using only knife. Now I guess I'll fight him with my bow, bear traps and knife-hand, it's really good idea.

speaking of blobs in the Salazar fight, my first successful attempt got negated by me going for the final stab, killing him, only to die because of the blob explosion that was obscured by hid model, and have to retry several more times (didn't know about the gold egg trick, was playing it on release day), ended up being more afraid of the blobs rather than him as he's easy to read, blobs are the real boss in that fight

When I played on Hardcore I was distraught that I couldn't complete Krauser knife-only, because the fully-upgraded combat knife ran out before Krauser did. But I'd been trying to dodge the thrown knives, not parry and collect them, so I was just baffled that the game wasn't providing me any extra knives. That's egg on my face! I'm not surprised Krauser is doable knife-only, that was almost implied that he'd be the one 'easy' one in this challenge, but I'm very surprised how the Saddler fight went.

It is INCREDIBLY difficult, and it takes getting a case that ups material drops, but water hall is possible without a gun. I did it myself but like I said, INCREDIBLY difficult. Grenades>Flash Grenades. When using a flash, Ashley stops raising the bridge. The only part you HAVE to use a gun in the mine care sequence with the Red 9. Other than, awesome run man. You’re the reason I ran knife only myself.

yeahhhh I was about to say the gate clip skips wrecking ball completely, and it’ll save you a shit ton of knives / durability by skipping garbage disposal and all that too! it’s the only door skip that’s possible on console, so I know it well :)

I was honestly surprised to hear that at 23:28 you had trouble with the dogs. I learned through doing a accidental panic knife in one of my playthroughs in the maze that if you time it right with the dogs as they pounce you can hit them making them stumble behind leon leaving them open to the knife attack prompt or simple slashing. It can be inconsistent at times but i actually found myself sparing ammo in this section by timing my attacks with their jumps and still find it as a way to spare ammo. (Smashing the knife button alone doesn't work well. You have to push the knife aim button before attempting the stab right as they pounce and are close to connecting their teeth to you. May or may not make you loose health as that is another inconsistent outcome for the technique but it still proves helpful in saving ammo in this section for them in normal play throughs)

What you needed was the +20% melee crit charm for the case. It's been so clutch for me right now. I didn't do this over the top challenge, but I am doing the knife and pistol only on Hardcore. Which is still proving to be a huge pain. Also a theory on the wrecking ball part. Maybe you can bait the rocket launcher guys into shooting that door. Then technically you're still within your regulation for the challenge

Actually the El Gigante fight is super easy and consistent, but you have to stay in the middle of his legs, slightly towards his butt, not to the side. 99% of the times he will do the stomp attack, but even if he goes for a grab or something else it will miss from that position. You are essentially free to stab his butt as much as you want and once he does the stomp you cross his legs and repeat. Knifing him is my go to strat in every playthrough, super easy and ammosaving, i find him way more dangerous when you are trying to keep your distance because he can spring like a maniac and go for high damaging/hard to dodge attacks.

I tried this run. Dor the Mendez fight. You can just crouch and Mendez can't grab you for his first phase. You can avoid the explosive barrels by climbing the ladder. You'll be invincible while climbing it if you time it right.

I don't know if it's different on pro, I don't see why it would be, but on hardcore and below the garradors can damage each other. It takes a while but you can get one to kill the other, and leave itself pretty weak afterwards.

Next challenge : Knife only, primal/accessoirs allowed, but instead of handgun you have to use the crossbow for the impossible with knife parts (then you technically still dont use any bullet), and you must kill every enemy ingame. No running past.

I'm pretty sure the wall in the wrecking ball section does in fact have health. I've gotten it to the visibly extra weakened state by shooting it with a gun a lot (like the Matilda). I tested it again with the with other guns and also got it to break faster. It seems it would be possible to get the dynamite and rocket launcher guys to damage it, but I wouldn't envy you trying to juggle that while fighting everyone else with a knife only.

So since editing this, I’ve learned that the wall DOES have health, but it’s values are very specific, and it’s hard to tell how much damage it’s actually taking. Hence why I thought it didn’t have health, and it was based on only Leon’s damage output. In theory, you can have dynamite guys blow it up (i actually tried this during the attempt and it took so long, i thought it wasn’t working)

@@Maxylobes That makes sense. I know it takes an absurd amount of bullets to weaken it as opposed to the two heavy grenades. It's just weird how weak the wrecking ball is by comparison, but regardless it always has to get the final 1 HP of damage to break it.
