The monicker or name 'HOUSE', came in the early mid 1980's, because the artist and producer's made the tracks in the basements of their homes or "HOUSE". The name "HOUSE", or "HOUSE MUSIC", was born. The Warehouse was the Chicago version of our New York "PARADISE GARAGE", or Newark, New Jersey "KLUB ZANZIBAR".

You have it right. This is how Chip E explained it. It takes awhile to understand the full history of House Music. The roots were there in Chicago very early with Ron Hardy... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Hardy but the real innovation of Chicago House were 1) DJ's started making their own stripped down Tracks they would play at parties and 2) The support of the Radio stations such as WMBX, WGCI and WCRX. This caused a break with the NYC, NJ and Philly sound, some of whom called the NY Club Sound or later the "Garage" sound. Soon after the terms House and "Jack your Body" appeared on Chicago records, followed by Acid then Hip House. Deep House is subjective... Some applied it to older tunes which could be called late era Disco, while others applied it to tunes by Larry Heard "Fingers Inc." and later Marshall Jefferson's productions such as Ten City.

Well I agree but New York really did the show of it all and well before House from 1970-1980 solid during that time Chicago was relatively conservative even with the legendary Warehouse and others. Chicago languished after about 5 years from around 1980-1986 at its strongest "House" momentum. Hopefully the windy city will return to claim the House crown in the coming years though.

i agree with everything but the term house, i heard, and chicago heads can chime in, came from the warehouse. record stores would try to label the music knuckles had played the night before by calling it "warehouse music"... over time they shortened that to "house" music... but that is what i read, i wasn't in chicago ( i was in nyc) so those that were there can chime in if need be.

S Torres Actually it didn't start in Chitown. It all started in NY/NJ. Frankie Knuckles (a Brooklyn native) brought what was going on in NY/NJ to Chicago. It was from there that Chitown got into the game. Chitown most certainly add a lot of hits to the game.

Let's see... 1971 Loft starts in NYC, Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan are devotees, Early 70s Knuckles plays at Better Days in NYC, 77 he's recruited to spin at Wherehouse, almost at the same time Levan becomes resident of the Garage.79 Club Zanzibar opens in New Jersey. As you can see it's true Jersey was there from the start, they used to call it CLUB music, in NY it was called GARAGE or LOFT, and in Chicago you guy's called it WHEREHOUSE, or HOUSE for short.
