Good explanation Alex. In his book, "Five Lessons", Ben described his grip just as you say. What he didn't explain very well was why you should hold your clubs this way. Now we finally know!😃😃

Alex well done again from Canada. I've been very lucky to stay active and loose for a 62 yr old guy and still play to a 6. The rest of my group are of similar age and struggle somewhat, but your videos have helped them immensely, and for that I thank you again. Merry Christmas to you and yours Alex and all the best for the coming year.

Good lesson on getting a good grip. Some will argue this or that point…the great thing is to use this as a challenge to work on the grip. For me I have begun to strengthen the grip to from a historically weaker grip.

Just like gripping a baseball bat. Totally natural. Too many try to hard to learn a technique when they should grab it naturally and swing it naturally. We are all built different so we cannot use the same swing.
@charlesburger51622 жыл бұрын
Moe Norman said you don't hold a baseball bat in your fingers, you don't hold a tennis racquet in your fingers, you don't hold a hammer in your fingers, you hold them in your palm, however he also said as you do the end of the club is supported by the meaty part of the palm at the base of the grip.

I’m seeing a lot of comments that reference Moe Norman’s single plane. That he used a palm grip that is completely untrue and incorrect. I use Moe Norman swing, was taught by Graves golf. Todd and Tim Graves teach this exact grip its the exact same grip Moe used. If you studied Moe like I have and watch all the old videos of him and Todd he shows where he has a huge callus on the heel pad of his left hand from the pressure point from the club there. It’s how we leveraged and created so much speed and hit the ball as far as he did back then. Bryson on the other hand uses those ridiculously oversize jumbo max grips and he does have a palm grip but he swings the club so fast it doesn’t matter. He’s not normal lol.

Alex , Moe Norman who was considered one of the purest ball strikers to ever play golf and who had one of the most repetitive swings always gripped the club in his palms !
@wreckingcrew522 жыл бұрын
And Bryson Dechambeau very heavy grip in the palms.
@snakesvt2 жыл бұрын
Moe did not palm grip. That is a misconception. He had a huge Calus on the healpad of his left hand from this grip. I’m a Moe Norman single plain swing swinger. Todd (lil Moe) Graves teaches this exact grip.

If the player uses a single plane swing like Moe Norman and Bryson Dechambeau you HAVE TO hold the grip in your palm. If as you say it looses the player power and distance, then how come Bryson just finished in the top 8 in “the long drive” championship??

How do you stop rolling the grip with the fingers of you lead hand during the backswing? It causes me to present a closed clubface at impact and yields those nasty overdraws and hooks.
@AlexElliottGolf2 жыл бұрын
I’m unsure what you mean sorry?
@garyshearer96812 жыл бұрын
Moe Norman held his club in the palm for his one plane swing and he was supposed to be the best striker of all time. Why isn’t there more instruction on his method? Bryson DeChambeau has a different version of the one plane swing, but not sure about his grip. Holding the club as you suggested has helped me tremendously though.
