This is a very common misconception, my friend. Imho, of course. I thought the same thing. I am disabled (not handicapped- huge difference, but noteworthy) and when I first started golfing (January-ish) I had zero flexibility, no rotation at basically every position, couldn't coil or get my belt buckle target-side @ impact. Think of playing "stick-in-the-mud" as a kid (minus the beatings). From my midsection/waist down I was locked in place. My sternum and buckle pointing directly at the ball (when positioned in the middle of my stance). Anyway, I've been spending a lot of time learning "how" to rotate properly and there aren't any crazy flexibility demands or that one must possess some otherworldly musculoskeletal framework to swing well is a bit misguided, at best. I get everyone is different, but i truly believe that by learning "exactly" how to rotate properly, it's enabled me to more easily attain the "proper" alignment. Not sayingthat I'm even doing it correctly-hahaha-but my point is that now I can much more freely rotate whereas before I could not at all. Also, a disciplined stretching regimen will behoove your flexibility immensely. And so will hydrating. I know, simple stuff, but I'm still a noob.. and it's the simple stuff that's most often overlooked. 👍

Hello Mr. Maude! Tom here, some very ambitioned golfer from german. I want to use this new upload to express my imeasurable gratitude towards your work. I was stuck in the handicap range of about Hcp 10, I practice 2-4 hours every Day on the range, hit about 200-500 balls everyday but just could not make any progression anymore. I was hitting my 7 Iron about 160 yards and my driver about 250. I tried lots of hours with pros, a lot of KZbin university but literally nothing helped. I was right at the edge of quitting... Until I came across one of your videos (Uploaded two months ago). I immediatly connected with your way of describing the feel and the motion of the golfswing. What really grinded into my mind was your phrase "Down, and arround, down and arround". So I went to the range and tried it! Literally all I did was focusing on "Down and arround". And what should I say? It literally changed everything! Every shot now gets completely straigh, perfect contact every time, perfect divot. "Down and arround". My body is now able to deliver all its power (Im quite strong, 1,90m tall, 100kg heavy) and now my 7 Iron goes 180 yards, the driver 290-300! I went from shooting like 10 to 15 over across 18 holes to shooting par or even 1 to 3 UNDER!! IN JUST ONE WEEK!!! You literally changed everything. Massive thanks, I will now start to watch every Video of you. Wish I could do more to acnowledge and thank you for what you did to me! Kind regards A very happy Tom

Danny I absolutely love your videos. I have learned more about golf and made more progress in my game in the past month than I did in 20 years. One thing I love about your videos is how easy it is to take what you are teaching to the range to work on it the right way. It is amazing how far you hit the ball with such an effortless swing. One thing I struggle with is not moving up and down with my head during the golf swing. It would be very helpful if you did a video on how to keep your posture and not drop down when you are swinging. Hopefully I am making sense. Thanks!

This video should have 1,000+ positive comments. I haven't read all the comments but this concept 100% spot on. This addresses so many "issues" for me. By "bowing" the lead wrist, my trail hand is gently forced backwards into that "waiter carrying a tray" position. It helps prevent the club face crossing over the plane at the top of the takeaway, which helps keep the club on plane on the downswing, and of course, as you stated, gets the club face back square at impact. Without a club, just interlock your fingers and experiment with cupping and bowing your lead wrist. Sorry for being so verbose, but this was/is a lightbulb moment for me! Great video, happy I am subscribed.

Love my Hackmotion device. Just upgraded to the new model. Hips have to be significantly turned at impact, just like the pros or any skilled hitters. Hips turned allowed wrist to remain bowed, with club lag and shaft lean. It all went together. Hips facing the ball on impact, or turning insufficiently simply didn't allow for those things to happen. Hackmotion is what finally helped me figure that out.

Leo's golf swing is vastly improved. So hard to hit when so many people watching. He's a good learner. Your wrist cupping demo showed where I was couple years ago but I shortened my backswing and the clubface doesn't open nearly as much as it used to. Good video today danny. Will look up the Hack Motion. Bad habits get ingrained but with feedback I may be able to get good contact consistently. I think that, like Leo, I hit down too much. I started playing the ball where it lies and believe me, you start hitting down on the ball pretty quickly and you feel like any shot is possible. Much more fun that way. Thank You!

This is a great lesson. Extending the lead wrist at the top of the backswing makes it feel like it is increasing radial deviation 👍 but what is actually does is rotate hand and club around the thumbs opening the face. Hitting down to make a ball go up is counter-intuitive. I find practice whacking weeds in the yard with my 7i really help getting the feeling of whacking down into the ball because there isn’t any ball you are trying to get up into the air. 😊

Danny do you have a video that shows the whole swing from start to finish? I find that many KZbin videos simply show parts of the swing and what to do or not do for that part and that is fine. However, form me my preference is to see a whole swing and then what I need to focus on if my ball flight doesn’t do what I had intended to do. Many thanks.

Holy crap ! Seeing you “finish the back swing “by cupping wrist you also slightly bent your elbow ! Which has been my “trigger point” to know whento stop back swing and start down . I know im not suppose to bend the elbow, and ,unless i completely concentrate on just that (keeping arm straight,which causes other issues ) it’s always really been difficult for me to even realize i do it. So i use the “as soon as i feel the elbow break “ feel… and now i see i may have been cupping my wrist when doing this . Which ,since i usually try to bow (or usually keep a flattened wrist ) to stop flicking… i see why i might be miss hitting(pushing right ) like every 3rd or 4th swing already@ 3 mins in🤦🏼♂️✌️👍🏼…otherwise i usually make crisp and powerful contact…time for me to head to the range ,and stop my low to mid 50’s 9 hole rounds , hopefully 😬

Being mindful of achieving lead-wrist flexion at-the-top was transformational to my game a few years ago. At address, with a neutral-ish grip, the lead-wrist starts with some extension. Question: do you generally promote a flexion checkpoint during takeaway? or at any point between address and top-of-backswing?
@DanielMaude4 ай бұрын
The lead wrist for nearly all great players is more flexed at the top than it is at address and again at impact. How much it flexes will depend on how strong or weak your grip is. The weaker your grip the flexion you will naturally need to create

High Danny, many thanks for your great videos. I learned so much from. I have one question about the ball position and I hope you can explain it to me. In Germany teachers tell me the ball position is from right with short irons feet to the middle with a seven iron and with longer irons to the left. Why do you show us, that the position of the ball is one club face from the left foot? Is it new method?
@DanielMaude4 ай бұрын
Hi Fritz, although you can of course change the ball position to create different flights why would you want to change it for a standard shot. I want to strike the ball in the same way. What does change is stance width. Remember as stance width gets wider (longer irons) it will appear that the ball is forward in the stance Also as the stance gets really narrow it will appear more central

I think another one of your videos (from 1-2 years ago) has the ball positioned closer to the middle of sternum? Doesn’t positioning closer to your left foot (as a righty) make you hit up on the ball, like you would want with a driver?

Ball slightly forward still hits down on the ball because of the way my body is positioned just means a little more loft

Question, ive tried to have your ball position, but when i do, i tend to hit it fat, or a massive pull left, im guessing its because my weight isnt shifting left enough (im a righty) but when i do keep it middle, i seem to strike it very well. Should i aim for your ball position? Or keep doing what im doing? (totally loaded question, but i thought id ask lol)
@DanielMaude4 ай бұрын
I suppose it depends on how far you are hitting the ball and how accurately you are hitting it. Moving the ball back of you are catching it fat is certainly a way to help you hit the ball before the ground but it can stop you getting though the ball. If you aren’t moving through the ball with your body you could be leaving some much needed power on the table

@@DanielMaude I’ll keep playing with ball position, your other video about taking a bigger backswing has already proven to be fruitful as I’ve gained all and more of my distance back. Thanks! 😊

So this is bowing the wrist at the top of the backswing. And if you are less flexible, you can take a three-quarter swing. Striking the ball with the bowed wrist will square the club and then allow you to naturally finish with the clubface towards your target and then up and around your lead shoulder. But on shorter wedge shots, you finish earlier after the ball strike. The pros do this all the time. Love the credit card tip. Perhaps using a tee will do the same - even better with some sting from pointed end if you cup instead of bow your wrists.

Hello Danny, I compress the ball well but I have a problem. My ball is always or almost always on the left because I have an inside curve I am right-handed. In a future broadcast would you be able to show us why this happens and how to fix it. Thanks in advance I love your way of explaining things.
@outlander2344 ай бұрын
You mean you are hooking it? It means you arent shifting your weight forward, you are staying back. Also your swing path with your arms is too "cutty", go back with your arms in the backswing to create drawing path.

With the exception of striking the ground and taking a divot, isn't this lesson on wrist positioning applicable to the driver as well?

Hey Danny with you being the very BEST Coach online why did you not play on Wed at Est Lake in Creators Cup? You make the best videos on YT and should have been there!!

Hi Danny, I also know how to hit the ball off the fairway and hard ground where I can actually compress the ball. I try to play the same shot when from a soft sand lie, but all that happens is the ball travels less than far as far as it will from a hard lie. Instead of trying to compress the should I try and scoop the ball.

It is also possible to flatten the left whist during the first part of the downswing What do you think ?
@DanielMaude4 ай бұрын
I think as long as it’s fairly flat at the top it’s sets you up for the way down

Danny, another great video. Would you have a fix for the ultimate game killer in the “shanks”?!!!!! I’ve had them for two months. I’ve been to three pro’s and I can’t fix it. Please help!!!
@DanielMaude4 ай бұрын
Hi Frank, the first is understanding what is causing your shanks. Ultimately the club head is moving out away from your body and out away from the ball. To eliminate the shanks you need the club head to be working more inwards towards your body in the downswing as opposed to away. One drill that often works because it naturally helps you do this is to set up normally, then push the club out away from your body so it is no longer behind the ball. Make a swing and hit the ball. To do this from this address position you will have to naturally move the club head back inwards towards the body

I learned about 10 years ago not to cup my wrist and worked very hard not to do it. It cured my slice. My problem now is that most of my clubs the bottom of my swing is in the middle (between my feet). When I try to correct this an move the bottom of my swing to about 4" inside my left heel, I top the ball, consistently. I could use some help on fixing this.

If every golfer did this on public courses, you would have a hard time finding flat ground to hit your ball from. Don’t think they will replace their divots. I helped manage a public course and know how hard it is to maintain.
