This is why the whole "Hell Is Forever" mentality has grown to be very cultish overtime. Adam, Lute and his Exorcists (and the Angels in general, to varying extents) ALL believe this as well. There has never been any evidence to the contrary that proves Sinners could be redeemed before the current time of the show. Adam genuinely believes in this to a cultish level (in some ways Lute is worse than him) because of that lack of evidence over the thousands of years that Humanity has existed and he actually believes killing the Sinners is a good thing for the population issue. In their eyes, Sinners are eternally damned and its natural to assume if they were killed it would not matter at all. Sera was more reluctant about killing Sinners but she believed they were eternally damned as well. But the fact that Charlie proved they could be redeemed via Pentious ascending to Heaven, basically destroys the "Hell Is Forever" mentality and it renders Adam a murderer. I have a strong feeling he became increasingly afraid of this through the season which would explain him becoming increasingly impulsive and wreckless about it, as Episode 6 definitely planted seeds of doubt into his mind when Sera did not directly reaffirm how he got into Heaven when he nervously asked her and that Angel proved he could do good, despite being a Sinner. I think Adam knew that if Charlie was right, it would mean everything he did up to that point, would mean nothing.. and he would be a murderer. Really, it isnt so much arrogance as it is plain cultish mentality. Believe me, as an ex-cult member in an anime cult some years back, I immediately recognized Adam and Lute's cult mentality over "Hell Is Forever". Its easy to be completely blind to things in front of you when you believe so intensely in something that it makes you see only certain things. (Sorry this is long xD). Just wanted to add some thoughts.

There's so much I want to say about this show, little detail and whatnot. But that would look like a college senior's final thesis. So I'll just share one of my favorite details. Lucifer is only around 5'2". He's *my* height. The heels on his boots don't even matter because he has hoofies. Okay, I lied. Two of my favorite details. I feel like Alastor genuinely cut ties with Mimzy after the fiasco at the hotel. For one specific reason. When she called Alastor a "heartless S.O.B," she wasn't insulting Alastor. She was insulting *his mother.* Alastor is a proud mama's boy. You *do not* insult his mama. Mimzy's lucky she's a woman who didn't do anything heinous enough to draw Alastor's ire (According to Viv, Al has a Dexter-esque moral system. He's a killer, but he only kills people who he thinks deserves it) because he would've torn her apart. Literally.

For reference, Lilith is nowhere in "canon" sources for the big 3 abrahamic religions, but a popular "OC" in a lot of their occult wings. Usually as a "justification" for misogyny: since the mainstream in all the religions say the Daughters of Eve (ie all human women) are supposed to be equal partners with the Sons of Adam (ie men), tho often still framed in a paternalistic way, occultists invented "Adam's evil ex" so they could dehumanize any women they didn't like as "EVIL Daughters of Lilith" instead. Which is just...MEGA yikes. Hazbin/Helluva's take on her may still be super non-canon, but is WAAAAY more based than the ACTUAL heresies the name comes from.

@@taddad2641 The theory I like is that you only get judged at the moment of death. Sir Pentious didn't go to heaven until he was "re-evaluated" at death, and Lilith had to end up in heaven somehow. Most sinners that die during Extermination weren't worthy, so they either cease to exist, or as Angel jokes in the pilot, go to double-hell. Some people speculate that Adam and the other exorcists that died have been "re-evaluated" as well, and may exist as demons in season 2.

Most of the Hazbin Hotel pilot is still canon, it was the Helluva Boss pilot that is pretty much no longer canon. They get mixed up a lot but the general way that Charlie meets Alastor and Charlie's presentation for the Hotel in the Pilot episode is still overall canon to the show as the show takes place 1 week after the Pilot ep. Just clarifying.

Ok I seen so many reactors react to this show and I’m honestly kinda surprised everyone is so surprised that heaven is homophobic. In Alicia’s case I dunno if she a Christian or what so it’s more understandable. But has no one read a Bible? Or a Torah? Or a Koran for that matter? It’s pretty well established “laying with another man” in most religions is a sin. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong so don’t get at me but I dunno how it isn’t common knowledge (especially wit some of these reactors claiming they are Christian’s by faith) that heaven most likely doesn’t view homosexuality as a virtue of some kind. It’s not like a commandment level sin of course but it’s def still very clearly a sin… right up there with tattoos, gambling, sex before marraige, being a sex worker, getting drunk and all the other lesser sins mentioned in the Bible. It’s probably why most of the characters act how they do. Those are the sins that sent them to hell in the first place. Not every sinner is a serial killer or rapist.

Alicia is at least ex-Muslim based on one of her discussions with Takahata, so she at least knows the Quran, and naturally assumes that heaven is homophobic. However, the creator of Hazbin has explicitly stated that her version of heaven doesn't include homosexuality as a sin. There's been some speculation among fans about whether Lute's comment about Charlie and Vaggie's relationship being blasphemous is because she's homophobic or because they're a demon and an angel, but Sera and Emily don't seem to mind them at all. And another thing about this universe is that whatever gets you into heaven/hell isn't entirely clear. Adam clearly swears, commits genocide, and brags about hooking up with various other angels, and yet he remains in heaven.

Man, I am as devout a Christian as a pervert like me can be. So I feel like I should be on board with this show's themes of Redemption and Attonement and Betterment. As a kid I even often imagined Hell as a go before attoning for your sins and going to heaven after. But the way it deals with these themes and how they are portrayed, especially the depiction of heaven leaves me... Confused? Or just thinking the show is confused on its morals.

i believe it is showing if the "sinner" really want to redeem themselves they have to put effort into it and also finding the right people to live with and for(snake boi going to heaven) but also have people like Val who has a long road if they wanna be redeemed (since most likely Val likes what he is doing where snake boi did it out of protecting himself before joining the hotel and learned from his trust issues and meekness and confessed and did his act in selflessness), tho Charlie says she wants sinners redeemed she don't say all sinners and shows why its a voluntary thing and its chipped away at Angels armor and its breaking Cherri's based on her getting closer to the hotel

Getting into Heaven and what one must do to achieve that are similarly left vague that it feels almost arbitrary what is considered hell-worthy and who is good enough for Heaven.. That means there really aren't many narrative landmarks or checkpoints we as the viewer can look forward to other than simplyself-destructive assholes stop being self-destructive assholes. Do they need to attone for what they've done, or is it simply enough to discard their vices and live with kindness for others? The depiction of heaven also grinds my gears since... They are really portrayed as literally holie -than thou jackasses, at best and and homicidal psychopaths at worst. Emily would be the one I'd call closest to a true Christian in mind and mentality, and I just wished this sentiment would be shared more among Heaven's higher ups. I just wished for once a show involving Heaven wouldn't want to make me feel bad for my faith.

Regarding the portrayal of Heaven, I think it's a critique of blind obedience to existing power structures. Plenty of awful things, such at the abuse of child, were done by people in religious power structures because their rank put them in a position where their virtue was considered unquestionable. And even when these abuses came to light, the power structure often protected the abusers out of a need to maintain the existing power structure, which they worried would be questioned if someone in the ranks of a supposedly omnipotent, omniscient supreme beings followers could commit such actions. Afterall, if you cannot obediently and unquestionably trust the priests, how can you do so for the power structure they serve?
