Fun fact: for the vacation episode they called the voice actor for the boss without him knowing beforehand. So his entire response is ad-libbed on the spot. All they told him was that they were going to call him at some point for a bit for the show, they didn't even tell him when they were going to call. That's why he sounds a bit different when he answers the phone, he was talking in his normal voice.

Yeah the whole point of the Brazil episode was a bait and switch, it was promoted a lot as this BIG EXCITING SUMMER VACATION SPECIAL, it even has a fake sinopsis of what the sideplots where gonna be, but then you get hit with them having an awkwardly realistic argument at the airport.

I think you might have missed the few post-credits scenes. There was one that showed them actually going to China to bury the egg like they promised, and another where Charlie is shown to be HORRIFICALLY sick after drinking the green fluid Mip gave him.

it's the other way around, meatcanyon took inspiration from the creators and staff on this show who are all old internet animators who were big on newgrounds and youtube way back in the day. psychicpebbles, michael cusack, oneyng, etc

The episode where they eat the Blackface demon is a deep-cut reference from OneyPlays. They were playing Luigi's Mansion 3, and Zach made up this elaborate nonsense about a mom bringing home a monkey to a bunch of essentially hellspawn children which tear it to pieces and eat it. The episode was titled "Clone Gone AWOL" or something like that. The fact that they just bounce random insanity off of each other and then make it happen in Smiling Friends is absolutely hysterical and makes me appreciate both. Jeremy getting decked and then not being able to breathe while making weird snorting sounds is from another OneyPlays segment. I think that one was about freeing an alien from Area 51. "What would you do if he touched your face and kept saying DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH?!" Oh, and Grease Puddle? If the voice sounds familiar, it's because it's an impression of ChrisChan. They actually tried to get ChrisChan to voice the character for shiggles, but due to um... 'exigent circumstances' that couldn't happen.

The guest cast for this series is seriously crazy. In the first episode you've got Tom Fulp (the creator of Newgrounds) Mike Stoklasa from Red letter Media, and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things.) David Firth, the creator of Saladfingers voiced Shrimp and Jason Paige, the guy that performed the original Pokemon theme song, did the love ballad for Pim. One of Gilbert Gottfried's last roles was him playing God on Smiling Friends. They even got James Rolf, the Angry Video Game Nerd. There's also a cameo from Chillz the "Number Fifteen" dude that used to do list videos but now produces some pretty decent music. The grease puddle was supposed to be voiced by Chris Chan before he got arrested. The whole list is a fever dream of ancient internet and deep cuts.

For a bit of context, the Brazil episode was originally going to be released in April 1st for obvious reasons. The promo material for it presented it as an actual special episode in Brazil, so when it premiered it caught EVERYONE off guard. The episode itself is trying to poke fun at the gimmick a lot of shows repeat, about the main cast going on a trip to a different country. It's actually pretty genious. The way it's written as an actual conversation that could perfectly happen irl causes such an uncomfortable discrepancy with the show's art style. And btw this episode is just a special, the actual season 1 finale is the episode in which Charlie goes to hell.
