I BOMBED My Yoyo Routine (Day 3 Of The US National Yoyo Contest)

So here is the resolution to my US Nationals adventure. Vlogging while competing were definitely a balancing act, but I’m super glad I powered through it. Having all this footage has allowed me to relive the contest days and given me ample time to reflect. I gave this contest the best I had to give, with what I knew at the time. I practiced longer and harder than I had in the past, I sought out peers who were more experienced to coach me in the right direction and I even surrendered my ego removing tricks from my routine I would be unlikely to land. The effort was there, but sometimes your best isn’t enough to pull it all together - and that’s ultimately what happened. I just want to thank everyone in the crowd who gave me all the support by cheering me on. Your energy made a mediocre freestyle run-through feel like a home run. Thanks to Evan and Gentry for prodding me in the right direction and thanks to my buddy Danny Hong for editing my music track. Congratulations to Shuyun for taking out the international division and all the competitors who gave their best at US Nationals. You seemingly had some inherent expectation that you were going to do badly. As much as you were telling yourself you practiced to make up for it, some tiny part of you very clearly did not want to be here, or at least it decided for you that you weren't ready. That's the part you need to learn to identify and fight. You're right that in every other respect, you did everything you possibly could. It came down to losing the mental battle with yourself this time. And I wouldn't even call this a loss. The way you had the crowd on your side is a better win than any trophy you could get.

On top of the meditation you've been learning with Evan, start using autosuggestion: tell yourself a present-tense exclamatory phrase of reassurement. For instance; 'i win every yoyo content'. Tell this to yourself every moment you arent thinking about something else, and especially so in the moments leading up to falling asleep. It should become repeated so often that the words lose their sense of meaning. Make sure the phrase is worded in the present tense, as though it's happening *right now, and direct it towards yourself. Another simple example could be 'my dexterity is improving' or 'I have no performance anxiety'. Congratulations, you're now practicing basic witchcraft and self-psychology.
