I Bought 13 Broken Drones - PART 2! Here's the second video of my trying to fix several different models of drones. In this video I'm working on some Mavic Air 2 and DJI FPV drones. These are the bigger DJI drones so hopefully I can get them repaired and back to being in working order.

Oh man, when I saw you were attempting to fix DJI drones I immediately thought what a headache! I had an inspire 1 that broke and worked with an official DJI repair tech. They basically said their drones aren’t meant to be repaired. The labor cost + parts makes them “disposable”is what I was told. Cheaper to just buy a new one unless you can repair on your own or get it covered under warranty. Fortunately mine was under warranty for factory defect, but they do not make these easy to repair by any means. Good luck! Looks like you’re making progress!
@Lukeno52

It's interesting, because they're clearly somewhat repairable due to how modular the bits are and the lack of any Apple-style ID locking nonsense, yet they make decisions like soldering on wires rather than using connectors and using very fiddly hinge pins.
@hanstolboom2527
@hanstolboom2527 Жыл бұрын
As shown here, it is repairable but it requires some skills, patience and a donor drone to do so. Unlike some phone brands, DJI at least allows for repair (so far). What you heard from the DJI repair tech is very typical tech corp behavior: make it too hard, too expensive to repair so that owners will need to replace.

I got my mavic pro by just repairing a $45 gimbal ribbon/mount. It definitely can look intimidating, but it you follow a KZbin tutorial and do it with patience, it's easy enough.

Parrot is kind of the same, the Anafi (the first gen, last consumer product from them) is made with software locks on camera gimbal, so any minor damage on the camera means replacing the whole motherboard.

The DJI FPV quad with the motor which is freaking out has a dead ESC. The board which it connects to is a 4in1 esc. Most common reason it fails is if the motor gets locked up and the drone is still trying to move the motor which causes the mosfet to stay on and then die in that state. ESCs use 6 mosfets to make a BLDC motor work. You can test the esc mosfet with a multimeter and continuity test each of the esc pads and if any stort to ground, its a dead mosfet.

For the FPV, always go Main board first and build the drone around it. Makes like alot easier, I have 3 in rotation that I push pretty hard so I'm super familiar with repairs lol.

Nice fix.. When it comes to the DJI FPV racing drones they are, in my opinion, not designed for what they are meant to be used as. Fly enough and You WILL crash an FPV drone and when you do they should be easy to fix, not like the DJI ones that are "built like a DSLR" which makes them a pain in the rear to fix. Looking forward to part 3 when we get to see them fly :)

Great videos full of instructions as always, I enjoyed watching both of them. I have a tiny suggestion if possible, if you could upload your videos in 1440P or 4K that would be amazing as the parts you are repairing have so many small components that the bump in the resolution would make it easier to identify them easily. Keep it up 😊

For repairing broken plastic JB Weld is awesome. Fill it, drill it, and put in screws. I've used it for broken laptop hinge mounts, power ports, anything that gets stress. For the laptop hinge mounts, I layered epoxy in the with the broken parts and clamped the mounts with c clamps. I add a layer of parchment paper to keep the clamps clean. Let set, remove clamps and paper. Then drill JB through the mount, then re-screw. The hinges don't stick to the epoxy, so it makes a perfect new mount.

For the one showing a motor stall after replacing the motor, I suspect the issue is that a mosfet has failed short in the ESC. A shorted mosfet will result in current periodically being shunted through a coil that was already carrying current on the last cycle, so too much current will flow, which the ESC will read as a stall.

Damn i could do some motor arms with some patientce after watching these videos which is awesome. But it looks like i wont be fixing my DJI FPV if the frame cracks or something, or even an arm, wow they crammed a lot in that tight space lol and still with good performance and 6S. The big heatsink in the back is directly on the ESC. I am going to try a better cooling solution for my O3 Air Unit, basically treat it like a PC. I'm going to get a slim aluminum heat sink from amazon/ebay, and put it directly onto the metal plate of the Air unit, and if have the room. I have a super tiny and featherlight fan id love to install on top of that with some temp control.. There's really no reason for it to get that hot, especially when most of us have the 1/8" of room for even just a simple heatsink just glued on even.
