Go and do it! The first gaming console I restored was a broken Wii I bought off eBay. I used a cheap Amazon screwdriver set and some rubbing alcohol, and that’s really all you need as long as the repair isn’t too complicated.

Currently in the process of restoring the 2 newest ones, I’m considering getting a transparent shell for one of them. I might homebrew them all too, only have one of them homebrewed right now.

Never use a screw driver to remove thermal paste. Always soak for 5 minutes with lighter fluid first, it will become really soft and easy to just wipe away.

@@resEG started with the softmods with King Kong & Splinter Cell, then drive swapping, XBMC installs, case mods, painting, leds, etc...Most of my time was spent battling the RROD before we really knew what was happening! Cold solder joints, and those X-clips! Penny mods, spacers, you name it we did it all! But I remember how absolutely stunning the graphics were on that console when it came out!

360s are one of my favorite consoles to fix as they have pretty simple internals. Unfourtinatly have some issues that are exteremly difficult to fix at times... like that damn red ring.

I brought a dozen broken red ring xbox 360 consoles and fixed about 4 of them. Somehow just got tired and didn't feel like fixing them anymore. Maybe when I have more time when I am retired. I'm surprised you know where the issue is without taking a multimeter and go around the whole board testing. I know the other way people fix them were to use the heat gun going all over the board hoping to remelt the bad solder joint. But there are times when the caps needs to be replaced.

@resEG Sometimes cleaning can Work. But at CD or DVD Drives are the Problem is mostly mechanic.Where the laser carriage sits, it wears out. As a result, it no longer lies in the balance and can no longer read the data correctly or at all. Most of the time, replacement is the best thing. Yes, I partly agree, to keep old consoles alive. Unfortunately, you don't get much for many old consoles at the moment, e.g. PS1, PS2

This time, it was a very ridiculous and deceptive restoration. 3 red light error means processor error again a failure to resolve the processor by moulding the processor at the BGA station. Failure to solder a port on the motherboard does not solve the problem.
