I just recently purchased the Garmin Edge 830. The main reason is I don't have a Smart Phone, and it still gives me the information I want, INCLUDING Navigation! I have been on several 4 hour rides, and the battery is still in the 70% range at the end. I also like the road hazard warning that informs me when a hard turn is coming up. I love this purchase.

Had the Karoo2. I liked it, but so many little things drove me nuts. Got the Garmin 1040, and it’s just a better device all around. The speed of the interface, the screen is better at equal brightness, the lack of needing a sim card, and the insane battery life made me sell the Karoo…

Without doubt you are the funniest cycling KZbinr! How you don't have 100k subs is beyond me??? Great review. I was badly burned a "crashing Garmin", so became a big Wahoo convert, (they just work!!) I was seriously looking at a new Roam V2. But having watch this and your dedicated review of the Karoo2, I'm now seriously looking at one of those. My only fear is that it doesn't actually connect to your phone, having gotten used to the "Wahoo way" Keep the hilarious vids coming.👍👍👍

I’m a user (and fan!) of the Edge 530. I used to have the 810 but after years of use the touchscreen started to deteriorate. I was intending to buy the 830 to replace, but on doing research, saw the price gap between that and the cheaper 530, which only really “sacrifices” the touch screen for button controls. I won’t lie, the button functionality took some getting used to, but once I did, I was very pleased with that choice. Thanks for the video, great to see the different devices side by side.

I bought my 530 really cheap (back was broken, managed to fix it with my 3d printing pen). I commute in every weather, so touchscreens are a dealbreaker. I love this little device! But boy, it was the least intuitive piece of tech that has stayed in my possession since a very long time!

I don't even have a suitable bike I could use one for, so I'm totally not in the market, but your great humor made me stay and watch the video. So I enjoyed it :) And if I were about to buy a bike computer, this video would be useful, so thanks in case that happens at some point. What bothers me, though, is the price of these computers and I'm sure that many people will agree. It's just that - I can buy a smartphone for less money. I don't, to be fair, but I could. It wouldn't have all the features of a bike computer, but a bike computer doesn't need all the features of a smartphone. So I feel like dropping prices across the board would be possible. Nothing that you or me can change, of course, so it's in no way critique for this video.

I am not a hardcore rider - I have to start with that. I have tried many of these but always ended up using my phone. To mount it, I stick a quarter-turn Garmin adapter to the back of pretty good quality silicon case and use a Garmin mount on the handle bar. My phone just gives much more visibility on what's around me, it's bigger and I can charge it during a ride if I need to. OK, the head units are more durable and waterproof but they are all just so small for me.

I am rather touristic rider. Using Garmin Explore I was frustrated so many times with its stupid and snail slow rerouting. Also colors of the map togethr with mirror effect of the screen made its readability very poor. Then I bought Karoo 2. I am very impressed by its overall performance: build quality, screen, great rerouting, route modification directly on the device during ride. Battery life, when you choose dark theme and battery save mode is far exceeding my needs for whole day rides.

I updated from an Edge 830 to the Karoo 2 for one single reason: It‘s impossible to sync new routes from Komoot or other platforms while tracking with the Garmin. You have to stop tracking and start a new track. If you want to change your route on the fly: Doesn’t work with the 830. So far, I like the Karoo and don’t regret the switch. Firmware (and battery life) kept improving over the last year. Had some lost tracks with the Garmin, didn’t happen with the Karoo so far.

This bike was really easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

Is there any power pack for the Karoo 2? I mainly like what it offers, but the battery life is a no for me. I do long MTB rides (which take longer than an average road ride for the same distance) and 8 hours barely scratches what I have done already, and that is brand-new battery. On the other side, I have owned a Garmin Edge 830 for over a year now and whilst I like most of it, I do not like some interactions with the touch screen and the touch screen lock, and how reflective the screen is, which makes it complicated to navigate sometimes in the trails because of the reflections, and I need to slow down or stop altogether, so I can see which path to follow. I was looking to change my Garmin Edge 830 for the Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM v2, but a touch screen is always a good option to navigate, specially if it is matte like the one on the Hammerhead Karoo 2.
@Sportivecyclist

I think you can connect the Karoo to an external power pack but there isn't a dedicated solution like the Garmin charge power pack. They should do a battery shaped like a bike light that you can attach to your handlebars using a light fitting, with a short wire to the bike computer. Maybe one exists but I can't find it with light Googling. Maybe this should be my startup idea that will make me a bazillionaire....

After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. kzbin.infoUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.

Just watched for entertainment. I've been using a smartphone for years and it is just such a joy to use compared to all these clunky outdated slow computers. I got Garmin 1030 for half the price on sale, played with it and might just sell it. Even a $100 smartphone will smoke all these overpriced bike devices. And before you start talking about battery life and stuff, I can say that my old smartphone lasts four hours which is plenty for like 99% of people. Small battery pack in a top tube bag will give you plenty of extra hours if you need it. Bike packers and world travelers will probably appreciate 20h battery life but for us normal human beings' smart phone will do just fine. At least it has been doing for me for at least a decade or so.
