Please note: Every articulating joint/axis needs a way to tighten. If there is a rivet in rotation axis instead of tightening bolt this will wear and loosen and be unuseable eventually.
@JuanzYT Жыл бұрын
can you explain this in a more dumber way pls so i understand. i feel i understand what you're saying
@TheEnglishRedneck457 ай бұрын
@@JuanzYT When putting the arm into certain positions, something needs to prevent the arm from just flopping down under the weight of the screen. This holding force can be provided by using a rivet (which is a single use piece of metal squashed together) or a tightening bolt (a nut and bolt which screw into one another, and can be loosened, or tightened, or removed and reused). The rivet over time can become loose, and then the arm is useless as it has nothing holding it in place - you may be able to resquash the rivet, but it will be very difficult. The tightening bolt will likely work loose over time too, but with these you can just retighten them using a tool like a wrench (these often come in the packaging).

North Bayou also makes a monitor arm for ultrawides which I found was much much better in terms of verstatility (you can obviously also use it for your 16:9 monitors) and overall build quality over their cheaper model. The cable management solution is also better since it uses a clip on opaque tray on the upper member of the arm and not just flimsy clips. It only costs 10 bucks more and I highly recommend going for that instead.

Before monitor arms got cheap I bought an Ergotron (45-241-026 LX) It was expensive but amazing high qualiy. I use it for my 34" Ultra Wide. I have since added a second 27" monitor and I have one of these cheap arms for it. It works fine but isn't the same quality. The Ergotron has adjustments that can stiffen it to allow a heavier monitor without drooping. Also no plastic other than the cable management covers, which are hidden. I have no issue with the cheap arm, it works great for the light 27" monitor, but I'm really glad I have the Ergotron for my 34" UW. I trust its quality.

Does it wobble much? Currently use the NB arm and want to upgrade due to the wobble.
@OriginalMergatroid Жыл бұрын
@@XLRZ. Yeah, it wobbled. If you hit the desk, the monitor would wobble. I am Currently using a 49" Samsung monitor so I had to change arms. I bought another one off of Amazon for about $100 and it supports the weight OK but it also wobbles. I also have an Amazon Basics arm I bought for a 27" monitor and it wobbles as well. Considering the nature of the mounting arms, I don't think you'll ever find one with zero wobble. I just sold the Ergotron for $100 used.

I'm buying a 38 inch monitor which only weighs 7.7 kilos. So I'm choosing an arm based primarily in weight capacity, although they all say they are for 32" or 34" monitors. I think that given the equal weight distribution, size is really a secondary factor. Any views on this? Thanks.

I have the Huanuo on a 27in monitor. I have zero problem rotating my monitor landscape and literally upside down. You simply need to leave the wire with a enough slack to spin it. It's super strong and once you get tension right it's great. I'd 100% recommend it. The cable management is great. too.

I'm surprised y'all didn't review a gas-spring model of the VIVO. Just passing through to mention that my experience with those models has been really positive too. I've been using a single and dual gas-spring VIVO stand for my 3-monitor setup at home for a few years now. Two vertical monitors, one horizontal; the horizontal gets moved around A LOT depending on what I'm working on, if I'm reading longer-form articles, or even spinning it around for gaming/watching video at the couch behind my desk. Similarly to the one you've reviewed, I've found them great for general feel of the build quality and materials, stability, and of course a great range of motion. My two complaints with the ones I've had are that the cable management for the models I have is annoying to use and a bit too narrow for my two-video-source + power + USB situation (they're plastic pieces that clip onto the bottom of each arm segment, over your cables), and that I need to tighten a screw every few months to make sure the monitor pitch (the up-down angle) doesn't start dropping a bit below vertical.

While expensive I have no complaints on Ergotron. I've had the Xl model for three monitors going on 6 years now and have never had a problem with them. I have a 38" Ultrawide and two 24" UHD's. Never had a problem needing to readjust due to sag over time. Solid and well built units. Fit and finish is perfect on the polished aluminum. I have no doubt I'll never have to buy another monitor arm as these will last for decades.

This video sparks some important questions in my mind. I am currently using one of those 8-foot-long social hall tables (with the faux wood top and the fold-up metal legs) as my desktop. I have been thinking about buying a 27-inch monitor for my M1 Mac Mini. When I do, I want to mount the monitor on a monitor arm for easier adjustment (and to keep my table-top space free). Problem: this kind of portable dining table includes a full-perimeter metal frame permanently mounted on the underside of the table-top, uniformly located about 1/2-inch in from the outer rim of the table top. I see that these monitor arm mechanisms use attachment mechanisms to structurally connect the arm to the table. How can I be sure a given monitor arm's attachment mount will fit on the edge of my table? The metal frame rail is about 2 inches tall and about 1/4-inch deep. If the mount fits on the outer rim, that's great. If it doesn't fit, is it possible to fit the mount around the frame rail so the mount attaches to the underside of the tabletop, inside the rail?
@GirthTickler2 жыл бұрын
If you are unconcerned with damaging the desk a potential solution is to use a monitor mount that requires you to drill a hole in the desk and tighten a plate on either side as opposed to clamping around the back edge of the desk. A lot of monitor mounts will come with both the clamp and a standalone plate to be mounted in this manner so you can just buy one that comes with both mounting systems and if the clamp doesn't work use the other method, but if you aren't comfortable drilling a hole in the desk you will just have to be very careful about what mount you buy and what the clamping system looks like.

I have been building multi-monitor flight sims, mostly 3 wide, for over 20 years...blah blah blah. Anyways: Here is the weak link in all these $60 or less dual mon stands with pole. Some moron engineer decided that a rivet (instead of a bolt/nut that can be tightened) would suffice for the portrait/landscape rotation axis (directly behind vesa mount).This rotation axis is absolutely necessary to keep monitors level because all arms sag eventually. The rivet wears and loosens after about 30 rotations with no way to tighten. Total garbage. This rivet that replaced tightening bolt, started appearing about 2-3 years ago. Unbelievably poor design. All of these arms shake if extended enough. If you use a desk, I would just use the monitor stand that came with mon. Particularly the 49's or ultra wides with 32x9 or 24x9 form factors.
