True but Casio makes a few triple sensor watches you can get down to the 200 dollar range. Just look at their Protrek line. Those are great watches and I got my Protrek safari PRG-600-1 that has all the features of the Mudmaster for $270- CDN. Thats a great watch. You can get just a digital read out triple sensor Protrek for around 150 if you look.

I owned a Skmei S-shock. Bought it for $20 CAD. That thing was a brick. Lasted me through basic training and my infantry training. Eventually my gf got tired of me wearing around a knock-off G-shock and bought me an actual G-shock. Would still be wearing it if she hadn't gotten me that G-shock lol

Geeze folks, you don’t buy a SKMEI as a Mudmaster, you buy it for the same look. It’s a beater not because it can take the shocks, but because for the price you don’t care if it doesn't. It’s great for telling time and the look and for timing your runs and Raman noodles.

I have a Skmei SKM-1155 and it's lasted 4 yrs rn, still going strong no probs rn. And the backlight and contrast is way better than that specific model. And the lightness adds to the durability lol, it doesn't get any damage whatsoever even when thrown multiple times 😂. It isn't an option, but it's pretty good in terms of durability. You see the time, and they're pretty tough. No comparison to the mudmaster. But does a decent job at being a watch 😂

@@gudshjrehand3739 It's not so much about rudeness imho, Jory certainly has the right to voice his opinion on his channel as well as some factual differences between a $20 and a +$600 watch. I just don't see reviewing or comparing 2 watches that are on polar ends of the spectrum. One is made for looks and one is designed for both looks and functionality. I don't believe anyone that buys a knockoff watch believes they're getting the functionality or attention to detail you will find in a Gshock. It's an aesthetic......that's why comparing in my humble opinion of these 2 items was kinda silly. It's not my intention to insult owners of either watch, just an observation.

My G-Shock look alike SKMEI lasted me for 3 years before the strap failing. I have no complain because I like the model and I have no need for the sensors that come with the GSHOCK.

I have a handful of these knock offs (the Smael name brand) They are fun but not serious time pieces. Some of them broke within a few weeks of delivery. Most of them still tick away. I gave a few of them away too. Handed a couple to my son to throw on. Again... fun. Not serious.

I believe someone left his out during a blizzard for a few days to test if it was any durable, and It was. It still worked. So maybe they're a hit or miss, if you get a good one, then you have a good one.

I had a Skmei watch. After a couple of years the band broke and couldn't be replaced. The watch was accurate to 2 seconds a month, much better than most quartz watches.

Thing that amused me about the Skmei-shock was tha it's actually a stack of 2 movements in one case, 2 seperate batteries and all... analog quartz for the hands, linked to the crown for setting, and the digital quartz module for the other display windows. Yeah, its a toy really - not necessarily a bad thing, and they're selling to entirely different market sectors - but I could definitely see this as a fun "stocking filler" present at christmas for an 8yo lad who's fascinated by his outdoors obsessed/military uncle's great big black and green wristwatch...

just got the all black Skmei and i'm so surprised with the quality of this replica for only $17 and love it a lot more than i expected as it's so insane...i have the GWG-1000 1A1 on order so will wear the Skmei to tie me over lol...there are much worse bootlegs but the Skmei has a quirky personality...a lot of fun...btw the plastic on the face is for scratch resistance...mine didn't have a hot spot on the backlight fyi...i actually like how light it is...and it's surprisingly comfortable...and i'm very critical of quality so i was expecting to throw it out but for me it's a fun novelty i can throw around...

A while back, about 18-20 months ago, I was seriously thinking of spending a (for me) small fortune on a G-shock. But I wasn't sure I could wear a watch that big and bulky. I didn't want to "waste" $5-600. Found these knock-offs and spent $15 on one. Best $15 dollar investment I have made. Why? Because after wearing the watch for a couple of weeks, I realized it was indeed too big and bulky for me and my lifestyle. OH, and the watch is still going strong. Keeps as accurate time as my Citizen Eco-drive. I've even gone in the pool with it. So, not a bad investment.

I bought a skmei as a work watch, meaning it will need to cope with dust, the lugs had to be beefy to whitstand twists and such, and it had to show me the time and date, as i work daily and sometimes loose track of the date. I paid around 15 dollars for it and it was great for 2 years. Then the battery died and it was cheaper to get another watch than to change the battery so i got one named Excelanc (haha), thats been working great for about 18 months now (fully digital, metal case, day and date). So, for people that need to have or want to have a watch on their wrist at all times, like me, but dont want to spend a lot of money on a beater for working in harsher environments, they make sense. I know, you could get a 50 bucks gshock or whatever, but, depending on where you live, prices are bloated by sellers, that it makes no sense. So, yeah, those cheap "brands" make sense sometimes..

Skmei also uses good analog movements, the Seiko Epson Corp. Al35x for example. I think is does its job and thats for an affordable price. The Mudmaster is literally a Computer…but when do you need a barometer, thermometer etc.?

@@thejavieracosta I guess you just got to be an outdoors person.lol I use the baramoter feature allot especially when fishing or camping. Changes in pressure are great ways for knowing how the weather is going to chg in your local area. The thermometer is only useful if you leave the watch off your wrist for awhile so its limited unless you hang it off your neck or leave it off at night for a morning temp. The altimeter if your hiking mountains I guess? That I never use. The compass can be handy even when driving. I find it handy AF when your in modern nieghborhoods that aren't grid based. Knowing which way is up can be handy if you get on streets you are not familiar with. Also If I go walking in the woods (even in a place Im familiar with) its not a terrible idea to take a bearing reading when you set off in case you get disorientated. I also love the sunrise/set feature on some of the watches. I use it everyday. Anyways there features are usefull you just got to rember they are there and how to use them. Also yes they are just cool.

Bought 7 of these before I got my mudmaster, I was able to return 5 of them lol. Helped me get a feel for the size on my 6.25 in wrist, helped me decided on the color,made me want a mudmaster more, frankly it sold me on the real thing. Very good as a "try it out" type of watch. But do NOT expect anything resembling quality. It's just very fun and silly.

You missed the point. At 16$ it's a bad deal. It's oversized for what it is, made of terrible materials and no water resistance. That quartz movement inside will die within months and never recover.

I have been using the SKMEI for about a year now, the light doesnt have hot spots, the digital and analog clocks hold the same time. Its been on about 60 hiking trips, rotated this between my Fitbit daily and it's still ticking 🤷‍♂️. They stepped to their quality. No it's not fancy but for a cheap EDC watch you dont care to bang around? All day.

If you were going to buy a SKMEI watch, then why not buy the one with a triple sensor in it, the 1358? It's under $30 it's got the triple sensor and a pedometer. I've had one for months and it works well. Also, look at the North Edge watches, the Apache 3 and the Gavia 2. I have both of those as well and they both have all the sensors and work well.

Jory, you know your stuff and your energy is great, so I usually enjoy your videos, but I think these kinds of comparisons are silly. Of course you're not going to get 600 dollars worth of watch for less than 20 bucks US. This is a better comparison, however, than comparing 60 dollar Chinese luxury watch knockoffs against 5000 dollar actual luxury watches (like other watch channels have done). Give us the benefit of your experience to help us understand things that aren't so obvious. As I say, your overall work is great, I'm just not feeling this particular effort.

Way too harsh ....I'll tell you something . I've had my two 1155 Skmei's for three years . They've copped an absolute hiding quite literally and I have only had to replace two batteries since 2017 costing $5 each time..The watches have two batteries .One runs the digital and the other the analog . Skmei are making watches for telling time/date etc. accurately and reliably for people who don't want or need a bunch of other functions . As for the "rubbish" comment . You are wrong to make that call until you properly test it in every day use . They are a very budget watch but they function well and don't fall apart like you seem to suggest based on face value . Test it properly before you bale on it too much . After three trouble free years neither of my 1155's have caused any concern and a tough little buggers in all honesty ...

I do think it’s a valid argument to say that if you like the style you may be better off with one of Casio’s more budget options like a W-735H, which is both affordable and a good quality watch. I would recommend looking at the full metal skmeii as that is a reasonable quality alternative to the Casio. Still a good video.

Read the book Factory Man. It may be the SKMEI is being sold for below cost, for various reasons. If you want quality products, it's worth considering the background story.

The Skmei looks better, less cluttered. Light watches are easier to wear than the heavy clocks. Buy one. Most folks hate big watches after awhile.

Go buy a Skmei 1358! It costs $30 and you get altimeter, barometer, compass, pacer, pedometer, thermometer, 100 hour countdown timer, two alarms, dual time, and Chrono. It has a bright light, can be used for backup emergency flashlight. I've had it around a year now and works nicely.

These SKMEIs are toy watches. I had some, and they are pretty tough for the price. Are they GShock tough? NO, but I feel much more at ease wearing a SKMEI while fumbling around the mud and rocks while off roading. Mine has scratches and dings, and lasted me 3 years now. And even if they did break, its like $15 for the 3+ years it served me.

Something that has yet to be touched on in the video, and the approximately 300 comments on price and cosmetics I scrolled through before I got bored, is the time accuracy. I mean, if it keeps somewhat accurate time, it is worth $16 based on appearance alone. I own a G Shock GWG-1000 with all of the bells and whistles and it hits the tower nightly to keep accurate time. I love it. Yes, atomic timekeeping IS THAT important and so is solar. But, if a $16 watch can stay within a few seconds of accuracy every month or two, it would be worth the $16 to those who work in conditions that might blemish the $600 real deal. Although Skmei attempts to imitate the real G, don't take them at face value. Buy it for a beater watch. Even if it last one year, you are only out $16. Can any SKMEI owners reply on the accuracy or lack thereof?

SKMEI does affordable (cheap, occasionally) hit and miss homage/ripoff watches. I own their "Casio Royale" and it's not a bad watch on its own. This one does seem like a total case of riding on the form but skipping 90% of the function, though.

I have the mudmaster quadsensor and I am pretty happy with it, for 300 you get an amazing built quality with the carbon core guard technology (which honestly looks amazing with the exposed carbon fiber in the bezel), you get the functions of the other mudmaster plus Bluetooth connection which is honestly pretty handy. What you don't get tho is the tough solar system, the multiband 6 and the sapphire crystal. But for the rest you get the same toughness, the same built quality, the same functions (some may argue that even more functions)... I know that the solar powered movement is super useful and I wish it had it but I think it's unfair to call it trash or a "mistake" because they are giving you a whole lot of watch for 300, and I honestly think that it is the most capable watch for 300 that you can buy in the market. And also this is a personal opinion but i think is the most badass looking of the mudmaster line.

It's a great substitute if you're doing something that you could damage or lose a $600 watch... At the end of the day it's $16 there's no real comparing it to an actual G-Shock but it's a great backup when you don't want anything happening to your more expensive watch... It tells the time perfectly and the stopwatch works good cheap backup watch to have in a collection

I have an old G-Shock GW-1500A that has Solar Power and I have never had a problem with it. Paid about $100 at Walmart. Researching today’s G-Shocks I noticed that there are no longer any $100 Shocks with Solar Power, it appears that only the $600+ Shocks have Solar Power. Why is that?

I recently bought a Casio a1000m for about $85. I had a tough time deciding between it and the a1000d. During my shopping around I found the Skmei version of the same watch. It seems to be basically identical apart from the branding and the fact the case is made from zinc alloy instead of stainless steel like the Casio. Today I said "what the hell" and for about $50 I ordered four different color versions of the Skmei watch (I think their model number is 1806?), including the a1000d-like version with the white dial. I'm looking forward to comparing the two (well, four Skmei vs one Casio) when the skmei watches arrive. For a few dollars more, I even ordered their version of the Casio a700, which according to their description is made with a zinc alloy case and a mineral/glass crystal (actually an upgrade compared to Casio's resin case and acrylic crystal). So we'll see. They were cheap, so I'm not expecting too much, but they sure look way more like the Casio watches they're trying to copy compared to this g-shock in the video.

That is a beautiful Mudmaster, and I agree that the solar capability of the watch is a major selling point. I wear an AWG-100-1A I've had since 2011, and after a recent bezel and strap change it looks good as new and still keeps perfect time. I also commend your good taste in using the Barton spring bar strap, I have one on an old Seiko and it looks great and is very comfortable.

Could have done without the threaded crown on the gshock, just adjust and up and down like the rest of them, very annoying to have to take it off anytime I want to set something...like a timer (still a beloved beast though)
