I can't believe it! The car I bought a few years back was originally a 65 2dht burgundy Catalina Ventura. It got painted green metallic in Arizona and it was very neglected and stored a long time . But it passed the ratrod stage by now. My son loves the color so much it will stay green forever. I had to promise him that.

I had one of these beasts in 84' ,,,seeing the blue at the top of the windshield and that hearing throbbing engine bought back soooo many choice memories .

Moms first car was a 65 Catalina convertable. Now I have it. I’ve been driving it since I was 17, I’m 39 now. It’s been an amazing car.

It was a good that you went for a GM product. I own a 63 Belair for 41 years now. A 65 Bonneville convertible, the Catalina and some more classics in various stages of restoration. Nothing extremely fancy, but Pontiacs and Chevies are GREAT cars. I am in the old car hobby for over 40 years now. That explains the amount of classics I own. You learned quite a bit already. Those Pontiacs tend to run rich, the overheating issue can happen if you let the car idle for a long time on a hot summer day or shut the engine off after a long drive. specially after driving over high mountains. Putting highjackers in the rear can sometimes make those cars handle better. My carb on the Catalina is a 4 barrel Edelbrock the car came with. We put a manual choke system on it. It works well. Specially when it is very cold. By the way for some reasons it seems to that 65 Pontiac wipers are not very easy to get. No idea why.

1) The rear window is rusted through in the bottom corners . The sail panels are damaged and wet seat . You must remove the window trim and repair the hole . 2) the light switch is fried . replace it and the fuse , the tail lights should work then . 3) the wipers are from bumper to bumper under classic parts . 4) Add a duel master cylinder for safer brakes . Most parts you can get from "Bow Tie" in Langley . Awesome car dude .

I know that whole engine. The first engine I ever rebuilt was my 1964 Catalina. It had a 389 and it took me 3 days to taking it out and putting it back in and I thought I took to long but 3 days is great for the first time rebuilt. You should of seen my 1966 GTO it was awesome.

Sweet. I had one just like it when I was in college in 1973, solid navy blue though. Bought it off my brother, who had it for a year or two, and paid $50 for it and all it needed was a battery. He told me once he was coming back to Missouri from College in Indiana, middle of the night somewhere in Illinois, he looked down and he was doing 110! I had it up over 90 a few times, but rarely on purpose! Nice ride... take care of it! Ps, it is probably a “389” CI V-8, not “289” like you said. Another dude has a whole video on Pontiac engines of that era. You should check that out. I know mine was a 389 as I recall buying parts for it at a salvage yard.

I had one in the mid 70's in high school. My parents gave it to me when they bought a new Pontiac. Out of all the cars I have owned it was my favorite. Ran great ,was just a good all round car.

Keep that carb, just get a rebuild kit. I've owned 4 Pontiacs starting with a '68 Catalina. The '65 & '66 are very nice. Keep the oil clean. & Change the coolant. That will let her run at normal temps. Good luck!! She's a real beauty! Wish I had one too!!!

Hi! I love the fact that people in Sweden love full size cars like me and many of my friends in Switzerland. I bet Sweden is the only country in Europe beside Switzerland where there are many Fifties and Sixties fullsize cars. In Switzerland we had GM assembly lines: They built Opels, Rangers and many US cars. My 63 Belair was assembled 35 km from where I live! My 65 Pontiacs were California built.

The 4 barrel is a good joice. But it will not add 100 hp.Try to find an original aircleaner. The the type you have now can be a fire hazard. I am amazed that a tank filling will take you that far! Maybe you have much less stop and go traffic than we have in Europe. Those Catalinas are extremely rare here. Maybe replacing the sending unit will fix the issue with the fuel reading. I bought one from Ames performance last month. I did not install it yet though.

The engine is a 389 engine. I own one as well. But I do not like this paintjob. Or the wheels. But the Catalinas are great cars, beautiful powerfull and underrated. I like it more than the Grand Prix. The roofline is more elegant.

I had flowmasters on my car. Our goverment people flipped out. We had to reduce the mean dinosaur roar in order to get it road legal here in Switzerland. Get used to a lot of interest by other people. Where I live people show much more interest in my classic GMs than in a Ferrari or an Aston Martin.

Pretty sweet. Needs some tlc, but has alot of potential. Holley sniper 550 efi system would help alot in terms of drivability

Again I am pestering you with my comments, sorry: But My Bonneville has a 10.5 to one compression. and I bet my Catalina as well. I have to put the best fuel in it that I can get. (That time a Ferrari had a much lower compresson than the muscle cars).

GTOs are hopelessly overpriced and not much faster than the Catalina. The Catalina are also better looking.

Wondering about that guage too. 150° F. seems to be too cold for normal engine operating temperature.
