She was nice but stern, I don't think she cared at all for the beetle so she just wanted it GONE

A $500 dollar Beetle is usually one that is stripped, no engine, and rusted through. Yeah, you got a crazy good deal even if it does need a fair amount of work. The body looks very straight and minimal rust. The death foam doesn't even seem to be an issue on this one.

That’s epic man great price but will need allot of love. I had one as a kid and me my dad and brothers used to thrash it through the local Forrest. The thing with Beatles is they get so much aftermarket love so if you have the time it will live again.

The cat seems to like it..! And the nice thing is, compared with other car projects on you're channel, a Beetle has no timingbelt or chain, no headgasket, no exhaust system that suddenly is laying on the pavement when you don't expect it, and its aircooled. A few decades ago we prepared 2 Beetles for a long trip on the African continent (also exploring the Sahara desert for a few weeks). We discovered soon that we made a good choice, the cars just kept on going without major problems, and we had a unforgettable and great time.

That’s a score. POR 15 that pan, replace the running boards and get it running. You might be surprised to learn that 20 years isn’t all that long for a Beatle. Mustie and Jason’s channels will tell you all you need to know.

Imagine that you had a great deal bestowed on you, and you were not even looking for it, and the dream was a premonition. Best of luck to ya.

My best friend in high school had a 1971 Super Beetle. I drove it once. The secret is to use the tips of your feet on the clutch and brake pedal but to press the accelerator from the bottom (not the top like you were doing). Several manufacturers make aftermarket pedals that address the problem you mentioned with people with big feet. Expect your calves to hurt A LOT after driving this car.

Little switch under the dash is from the rear window heating, there is a little green light on the dash instrument when its on. I have very big feet, and worked long time for a car rental company, driving very different cars every day, but never had a problem with Beetle pedals.

Ahh thats what the switch is for, I doubt it does anything now but at least I know why its there lol

A family friend of ours was a Volkswagen mechanic. In 1956 he went down to the VW dealer and bought a Beetle for $1,200.00. Twenty years later he arrived at our house in the same Beetle. The car was now rather beat but was still running. He then explained to us the Beetle now had traveled over 1,000,000 miles. Then he told us how he was able to go 400,000 miles on one engine. The old bias ply tires also last a long time on those cars. I know people who were able to get 80,000 miles on a cheap set of bias ply tires on a Beetle. My mother had a 1962 Beetle that always delivered 38 miles per gallon of gas. We all loved that car, and I was pissed when she took it to the Volkswagen dealer in 1967 and traded it in for a 1965 split window Bus. She kept the Bus for 27 long years, and it too had an odometer that rolled over several times. As for her old 1962 Bug we all have wondered what happened to it. Years later Mother said selling the Beetle was a mistake, and she said she would have kept it, and bought the Bus outright.

Looks like a cool project. A running engine alone is worth more than. $500 so you got a great deal

Your best bet is to get all new control arm bushings etc from topline as supers have the front end shimmy.there is a place on thesamba who sells “pedal extenders” so the brake and clutch is more spaced out

That makes sense, I was wondering how the heat was operated as there was nothing mounted on the dash for heat control
