I was a hardcore Subaru guy for 15 years. Had four WRX models, but their clutches suck. Got a 2018 base GTI... it’s been awesome with zero issues... such a pleasure to row through the gears compared to the WRX, whose clutch was as stiff as a Saskatchewan tractor.

Don't you miss Subaru AWD?
@darrensnyder47424 жыл бұрын
Yes.. it’s a trade off. I use 30% less gas than the WRX and haven’t gotten a speeding ticket ever since I got the GTI three years ago. Not to say I haven’t driven very “spirited” a lot of the time. You don’t feel like you have to drive like a maniac all the time in the GTI, but when you want to pass and have some fun, the power and predictability is there in the GTI. Conversely, in the WRX you just had to go 100% all the time. lol. Truly, though, nothing beats a base GTI for the money.. the torque is the same as the WRX at 258 pounds and the supposed 220HP is well underrated. From a roll, the GTI would likely take the WRX from 2nd gear and up. The maintenance coast are also a lot lower in the GTI, as only require oil changes every 15,000km. Over the 30 months I owned the GTI, I’ve only spent $280 for maintenance. I do miss the “fun factor” drifting in the winter that the WRX provides, but for now, I will take the trade offs. For 2022, the WRX will have a 2.4L boxer engine with uneven headers again... I miss that sound.. on my 2014 WRX you didn’t need the radio on... just rev that engine and listen to the engine music 🙂

@@darrensnyder4742 thank you for your reply, that helped me make a decision, so I've moved from sti to gti. Especially gti seats are so much better for my back than subaru recaros - that's most substantial difference for me. Surprise for me was 1) that gti corners much better (vw lsd is very good it just pull car into a corner when you press accelerator), 2) another surprise is that gti almost has no engine braking capability, so it accelerates downhill on it's own, together with item (1) downhill ride is a bit scary, uphill ride - is just perfect.

@@darrensnyder4742 I had a mk7 gti, i really miss the car and I think it’s a great platform to modify. Stock is a great car if it has good tires, but once you fit some lighter wheels that can fit some 255’s up front and 245’s out back, the car handles much better. I did that with some Pilot Super sports and the car wouldn’t understeer, it would oversteer and was a lot of fun to play with on twisty roads. Intake and exhaust is a must, as well as a tune. I had a jb4 and cold air intake, I got some videos if you’re interested. I got it used for $250 and it was fun making my own custom map for the car and I can make the car feel however I like. Took mine to Tom Wood VW a couple weeks ago for just an oil change (I normally do it myself but the first two oil changes are free when you buy a new VW) and after I got the car back (which took 4 hours for some reason) I took it into my shop to do a tire rotation and just look over the car and there was oil everywhere. All over the oil cap, valve cover, exhaust, and all over the oil pan. Wasn’t leaking or anything. The tech must have just missed the hole in the valve cover and never bothered to clean it up. 0/10

The dealership I bought from was on the south side of Atlanta Georgia, I'm from Michigan. They were complete trash but Volkswagen of America got involved and after the first phone call the Dealer ship shaped up. They had pulled my credit five separate times and tried to back out of the deal because they said they couldn't get me the promised interest rates and terms they had agreed to with the out the door, tax title and license fee included price. Volkswagen of America said that was unacceptable and they were going to get a hold of them. They ended up following through on the purchase and I have had no issues for the past year-and-a-half. I hope you have no more issues at this point

They wanted to add additional interest onto your approved loan, which dealerships are allowed to do. What they cannot do is promise one rate and then switch it on you.
@NoZenith4 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 that's exactly the situation I think. They promised me a rate and an out-the-door price and I only had to check with my lending institution to make sure it wouldn't affect the home loan I was setting up. When I called up my Credit Union I had already went over everything with the dealership and I was very transparent about not knowing what I was doing so they explained everything to me told me, told me what my monthly payment was going to be with minimum down at both three and five years and how much I would have to put down to get my payment below $400 switch I wanted to know before I called my credit union because I figured that was a sweet spot tonight adversely affect my mortgage ability, which it was. I understand income to debt ratio is HUGE when getting a mortgage and I had the ability to put money down to keep my payment low enough that it wouldn't affect buying a house. I vw back and we had it all set up and the payment generally (I guess there's some flexibility until it's officially locked in and they couldn't guarantee the change would be exact but the dollars were accurate). They proceeded to pull my credit 5 times (they were already pulling it while I called the credit union) and they could not get the rate as I understand it. My credit union could do that didn't make sense. I didn't mess around with them I did everything over the phone in one day, I was transparent, I only had to talk to 2 people. I said I'm comparing as close as I can apples to apples and I'm shopping from out of state. I have a budget but I have flexibility in that budget depending on what value I see in a deal. I would like you're out the door tt&l included price. I never once tried to negotiate the price I just asked them for what their price was and I was comparing those between different dealerships. I didn't want to waste their time or mine and used phrases like I don't want to waste your time but I'm comparing cars at different dealerships and I need hard numbers. Anyway, 3 days in after I thought it was a done deal I called back and he tried to tell me I was getting too good of a deal and they weren't going through with it after they pulled my credit 5 times. I had never had a loan before and it dropped my credit score 89 points as of 2 days later and I was really upset. That's when I decided to try and call someone to figure out if there was anything I could do. ( I waited two days for a call back from the manager to try and understand what was going on because the sales person I had set the deal up with and then went over to finance and finish setting up with wasn't working with me anymore. I'd been pawned off on a junior sales associate) I went to my credit union when everything got figured out and the dealership ended up adding additional $100 on to the tt&l price and I didn't argue about it cuz I just wanted to be done but I got to finance through my local Credit Union and they gave me the interest rate that the dealership promised me then couldn't do! also, before I picked it up they took the Monster Mats out of it. I drove away and realized it only had the stock material Mats and had to turn around and go back. I had to show them their ad online with the listed options before he would go get me mats out of another GTI LOL. I'm told that the common thing for the throwing the mats out of another car as a perk and the sales associate doesn't have to tell anybody he did that but then a car that had that option on the sticker doesn't have them anymore.

@@NoZenith Seems like you had no idea of how to buy a car or get financing before you started it all... still don’t. You make large purchases without any research. This is on you. Also, all pulls for a car loan within 30 days count as just one.
@NoZenith4 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 I did a lot of research and that's why I didn't go in saying I was paying the majority cash, but if the price was palatable that I could pay down enough to keep my income to debt ratio happy for a mortgage. I didn't demanding anything. I went in telling them I had never done it before and I needed tt&l to compared to other cars. That is a straightforward method that many people employ and Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, Car and Driver all recommend. You get a hold of the dealership or email them and it's usually the same department (online sales) and they give you a straightforward price without playing around with you because they know you're comparing with other dealerships. It saves everybody time. I didn't Dicker and deal with them I just wanted a price. I had already been talking to my credit union for over a year about buying a new car once i settled in a house as my car was 10 years old and I needed something reliable. I got all my ducks in a row shopping for a home and then my car started giving me trouble before I got a house. It wasn't exactly unexpected but I wasn't looking to purchase a new car at that moment. I wanted something specific so I started shopping outside of my region and even researched shipping prices. Asking a dealership for tt&l out the door price is very simple and if they aren't willing to give you that then you move on. I had four separate dealerships I was looking at and was transparent with each of them that I needed out the door pricing tt&l included, (each of them knew my home address because they had to apply my own state taxes to it) to be able to compare them as I also had to communicate with shipping companies to see what the cost was from each region. That can vary by well over $1,000. I did a lot of research. I did generally understand what I was getting into I just hadn't done it before and told the dealerships as such. I don't know if you work at a dealership and you like to play games with people or not but you certainly are playing ignorant. You're throwing out baseless claims and insults without any information to back it up. Also I realized it only counts as one but getting multiple hits and not then closing on a loan hurts your credit and I was hypersensitive to that because I had never had a loan before and I was being extremely careful. I talked to Volkswagen of America, not understanding if there was anything I could do and just frustrated, they initially wanted me to wait for the manager to get back ahold of me but since it had been three days with no return phone call and I emailed them my documents, they thought it was important and elevated it to an advocate. This dealership violated their policy whatever that may entail or I wouldn't have gotten the deal. I didn't even force them to finance me at the rate, they let me go to my own lending institution since they had already said they couldn't match the rate they originally set my deal up with. Ended up good for me because my gap insurance is Gap plus and it's awesome. The one $500 ductable I had to pay got covered under my gap insurance and that more than paid for the $290 I spent on the gap insurance. It was a learning experience and so far you're the only person who thinks the dealership was in the right even though they were being assholes.

They even tried to tell me I was getting too good of a deal a couple days after we set it all up and they wanted me to pay more money for the car. By the way I bought a 1 year old car that was still new on the dealership lot that they were going to have to pay tax on AGAIN shortly after I purchased it if it was still on their lot was one reason they wanted to move it. Ahhh, that's the trouble with a short video, sometimes the details are lost: I actually did read the manual (the short version of which is in fact printed right. on. the. jack.) However it's not always that accurate, as I found out. The point, which may have been lost there, (again, owing in part to a short video) is that it's not a great customer experience to make the buyer of a brand new car have to jack said car up 12 hours after purchase because the dealer forgot to take out the shipping pucks. I actually suggested that maybe VW could produce some sort of Idiots Guide To Selling Cars. Step #1. Put oil in it. #2. Put windshield wiper fluid in it. #3 Take out the shipping pucks. #4 Take a customer for a test drive. In that order hahahaha (turns out they do make such a manual, the dealers just don't follow it sometimes.) Secondly, no scratches at all - if you followed my channel you'd know I have impeccable dexterity ;) Thirdly, thanks for the love on my editing! Cheers mate!

When I got a pre certified 2018 Subaru Forester XT back in 2020 I had to go through the same process but with different problem… at the end of it all the lemon law came into affect when they had it in the shop for the third time total of 40 days in the shop even though I had the car in my possession for only 10 days before that because they ended up finding ringland failure😂 They took the car back and cut me a check for the amount of my loan🤷🏼♀️

I don't understand how you damaged the body panel jacking up the car. Also, classic suspension block issue that seems to be a common problem across all manufacturers. The tire pressure sensors are very sensitive on the mk7.5. I had one for 3 years. That's really a non issue.
@whistletutor4 жыл бұрын
And if the car survives 3 years I won't be the list bit surprised or annoyed when the TPMS goes off. 5 minutes after leaving a dealership that I've had to return to 4 times since buying a brand new car because of dealer mistakes? Yeah, that both surprised and annoyed me haha

Hi Having owned 8 Volkswagen 's I have no idea why! I have had very many issues and had to send 2 back but there is something about these vehicle that is a magnet. The latest one having owned for 2 years is probably the best despite little niggles. I am not sure if it is available in the States a Volkswagen Golf Sv 1.5 GT EVO DSG very under rated especially when you put it in sport mode. I have learnt over the years when dealing with car service advisors you have to be 3 steps ahead of them in ant discussion and if you quote anything from the internet about a similar issue they dismiss it " you can not believe anything from the net". Yes just the same as you are not able to believe anything they say!! Hope the car is Ok now. Regards

I have the same car, 2020 GTI Autobahn. I’ve had it for 20 months. In that time I’ve had 4 failures; Nav screen, passenger grab handle, rear taillight, and driver’s door wiring (harness). All repaired under warranty but total cost would have been over $5,000. I’ve owned 12 VWs but this is easily my last one. Absolute garbage.

Definitely a crap dealer with a mediocre service department. I've been driving TDIs and GTIs for 10 years now with several different dealers and some clearly have a top notch service department, others not so much. Still, the shipping pucks are part of a the standard checklist for the dealer receiving a new car, so that is a major red flag considering that had VW dealers a ton of those not getting removed when the Mk7s came out. Therefore, it is inexcusable that it happened to anyone so recently.
