I have always wanted a 370z but really never had one pop up that I thought would be a good deal, well today is the day that those dreams became a reality.

A lifetime ago I worked for a sub-prime auto finance company, it was the only way for people with repos to get into a car and large dealerships had cars set aside specifically for this program. We would base financing on 125% of book value at the maximum usury rate in any given state, most wer over 20%. I never felt more dirty in my life going to that job.

CSC failure is one of the most common issues on the 370z transmission, so people fit aftermarket external ones. By the looks of it It's probably the only valuable upgrade that car has.

@@Junkyard_Dave We used to be able to get good oven cleaner here in Australia. Now it's no better than water, useless. Same with paint stripper which now won't strip paint. It's all about making produces "safer to use", but the result is that they don't work anymore.

I know you're out of touch, so let me clarify. People with poor credit typically make poor decisions. (I.E. poor credit worthiness caused them to get 15% interest and poor decision to accept the interest rate on aged car with high miles.)

This is how dealerships work. You come in with starry eyed dreams and the salesman asks you what you want your payment to be. It’s only $800 a month! Never mind for how long. Insurance? That’s between you and your insurance company. Has to be full coverage though. Never ever play the payment game!!!! Hammer an out the door price! They’ll keep you there all day trying to squeeze you but stick to your guns or walk. There’s thousands of dealers that want your money. They might not get the big margin on you but there’s plenty of rubes out there they get rich from.

You may already know some of this, but just in case… I had an OS Giken twin disk in my 370z. I had the concentric slave cylinder but it also required a sleeve to go over the throw out bearing. Speaking of the CSC… the OEM piece is notorious for going out due to the body of them being made of plastic. Concept Z sells an aftermarket CSC with a metal body that is the go to fix, aside from their external conversion that is superior to Z1’s design. Also, again speaking of the clutch system, the master cylinders in them are pure garbage. A lot of times if you let it run dry, it will require a rebuild or a replacement. I know it sounds crazy but I had to do it 3 or 4 times because it wouldn’t build enough pressure to engage the clutch. The rebuild kits are cheap through Nissan and super easy to do. Removing the master cylinder isn’t exactly fun though. It has an open diff because it’s a base model, but the factory VLSD in them aren’t great and even if it did have one it would be long burnt out by now with that mileage. I also have a factory steering wheel if you need one. If you have any questions about the car hit me up. I’ve owned mine since 2012 and have been through just about everything you can do with one.

2k is to much for sure, but 26k to rebuild it is a crazy execration😄. You could get an engine, bumper panel and miscellaneous other parts that need fixed for a few thousand. Obviously he could spend more but it won’t take much to get it on the road. He’s doing all the work himself so he will probably come out alright.

That Nissan is a piece of junk, well and truly abused by the previous owner. But you got it for the right price and by the time you're finished with it, it's going to be a nice car. You're really good at turning junk into treasure. Example, the blue wagon that started out as a stripped theft recovery sedan. It will be interesting to see what this Nissan ends up. looking like when you've finished with it.

That 370Z is not a JDM car. To be JDM it would have had to have been sold new in Japan, not in the US. It's a USDM Japanese car, but not JDM.

That car is one case among many more where someone buys a car and then proceeds to destroy it. Imagine one of the new overpriced Z cars being treated like that. Spend $60K for it to be destroyed in mere months... I love my 2011 Z that I bought in 2018 with 30,000 miles. I paid around $17k out the door and have put too much money into it as there's so much one can do with them. It runs and looks great today. $26K for THAT?!

DO NOT put the stock clutch cylinder back in. They are complete garbage and will break especially if you plan on tracking it. Also do the gallery gaskets, add an oil cooler(at least 25 row) and replace the fuel pump top hat if you plan on tracking it. Toe arms and and camber arms in the rear plus adjustable upper A-arms in the front are also smart if you’re lowering it and/or tracking it

Some might not see the potential in this car but I do. A bit of work, a little money in parts and it will be a sweet car. I said in another comment here that 2k was too much, and it’s definitely not a steel but it is a 370 and not a 350 I guess..🤔 Since you are doing the work and already have some parts you shouldn’t be upside down in the end. I’ve tried to learn from my mistakes of putting more into a project then it’s worth.. sometimes it’s better to just buy the nice car you want in the end. But if you play it just right and put in some work you can make it work out.
