@@sschevmale24 I haven't done a timing chain on a newer 4.3 but the old 4.3 from the 80s into the early 2000s was easy peasy compared to an Atlas motor. About the only bitchy part was having to drop the oil pan. Especially fun is the chain for the balancers on the back of the 5-cyl engine...that you have to pull the transmission to get to! Maybe the 4-cyl has it too, not sure. The entire accessory drive has to come off the Atlas. It is a monumental pain in the ass. The temp gauge is most likely reading correctly at just at or above 1/4. The 04-06s (and maybe 07s) had a different colder thermostat and the instrument cluster also reads differently than 07 and later. If you swap an 07+ cluster into an 04-06 it will sit around the half mark and with a newer thermostat and an old cluster it will usually sit somewhere between the 1/4 and 1/2 marks.

Definitely right about the temperature not being normal. It should be just below half. I had to replace my thermostat (like you suggested) and it was a pain... although I have the 5 cylinder so it may be easier for you. Basically a rubber o ring got warped and caught in the valve, not allowing it to close properly. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. As said before, the airbag light is just a wire shorting out between the cab and the driver's rear door. It'll keep going on and off until the wire breaks entirely. Should be simple to solder back together if you can find the other half of it. I have an evap leak in mine and I believe it is related to the fuel pump too. It has a random, multiple cylinder misfire which I think is related to the pump too. Love mine at 146,000 miles, but I'm ready for a new truck. Mine also has burned oil since I got it at 49,000 miles. It'll go through 1-1.5 qts in 5,000 miles.

Best first guess on the temp gauge is that if you have the electric fans, check to make sure the modules have the latest software and that a fan isn't bad. Chevy likes to run all their trucks with electric fans hot (218+) before they kick-on the second fan for some reason. I heard there's a way to program the fans to come on earlier, but you'd need a fairly high-end tool to do that apparently.

Probably needs a new thermostat and fresh coolant. I have an 09 Canyon and the temp hovers around the middle. For the airbag light, there is a recall on airbags but it could be that the connector under the seat is dirty. Clean all connections and plug it back together. Alternatively, make sure the front impact sensors are good. Super cheap on RockAuto.

I had a 93 S10 5SPD it was RWD, I wanted the 4WD, but I didn’t have a choice, dad bought it in 2015 for 700$, he gave it to me when I was was 15, later 2015, best truck I’ve ever had, drove it everywhere, through mountains, a little water, off road a little bit. It was a v6 4.3 liter, could tow 6000 pounds, the most I put was 2500, did it easily, this brought back memories. The only problem was the power steering went out, easy fix, I sold the truck for 900 when I moved to Arizona. I miss it.

I love the fact it's a manual. I don't mind the roll up windows and whatnot. That's less to go wrong.

Used Chevy Colorado's are a steal. Super dependable truck without the Toyota price tag. Just picked up a 2008 Colorado for $6k with 94,000 miles on it. Plan to drive it to Alaska!

I just bought a 1998 f150 extended cab XLT 5.4 v8 that runs and drives great for only $500 on offerup, perfect interior, coated bed, but my brother that has an newer f250 and knows a lot about fords, inspected it and said it runs perfect and has no problems or codes and even wanted to buy it off me for a good amount more than I paid. But I think I might keep it, never had a truck or ford before. I currently drive a bmw 325i and had a few Mercedes, but I may start driving the truck.

I’ve replaced my t stat, it still doesn’t run very high but it did help. I’ve had mine for over 8 years, I’ve cleaned the throttle body 3 times. I’ve talked to other Colorado owners that have had to do the same thing. They’re great for what they are.... a cheap little truck.

Open the left rear door expose the wires from the loom and repair them. Had the same problem with mine...permanent cheap fix. Pay attention to the frame. I just replaced mine due to rust. I've had my 2004 since new. Great truck!

The temperature gauge is the thermostate stuck, need to change as that way the engine never reaches the perfect working temprature and its not good as well you get a worse mpg. Good luck with the new truck from the UK

I own a 05 Colorado and have replaced the thermostat, yours is stuck open it should sit at about 1/2 way up the gauge.

Air bag light due to a sensor under the seat. You may have to remove the seat. Engine light due to the evap box under the back of the truck in the back. The hanger is also likely rusted off.

It just so happens that my first car was a 04’ Colorado for 500! My mom worked at a nursing home and it belonged to a resident that couldn’t drive anymore so he said 500. All it needed was oil and a battery....and a massive detail

Good question for future purchasing.. I used to have an 05 Colorado i4 5speed swb 2wd and it would hit power reduced and I cut the exhaust out thinking it was the cat. And a "mechanic" at a tire place I took it too found a broken wire because one day at work it just randomly wouldn't turn over. I liked it but the power reduced problem that i could never figure out kinda soured my taste for another one maybe I got a bad apple... But just would appreciate any feedback on this to know what to look for common issues?? Nice truck gotta a good deal especially with 4x4 and a stick

Currently have an 05’ Colorado Z71 4x4…has around 278k miles and still runs great

Congrats! Finding your combo in a Colorado is kind of rare. 4cyl extended cab with 4x4 and a manual? That's crazy! Doing the front brakes on these are a fucking chore (only the 4x4 version though). These were designed and manufactured by Isuzu for the developing country market like vietnam and other east Asian countries. My dad has an Isuzu I-350 version. You barely see any Isuzu ones in the States as only a couple thousand were imported.

Your setup is honestly the one I've dreamed about having. If I were anywhere near Vermont I'd offer you $500 for it lol.

The Colorado has a hidden gem . If u feel that u need power . Open up the air box top there is a cold air intake already. Just secure the filter.

It'll be cool to see what you do with it. I have slightly newer Chevy Colorado and Ive had a few issues with it. Cold start miss fire was the timing belt. rust around wheel wells. airbag light due to back doors and back door latch broke. other than that it runs well now that the timing belt is fixed and the other issues are just little annoyances
@DylanFahey5 жыл бұрын
The code will not show that the thermostat is bad. It will just show bad temps, and sometimes your A/C will not work because of it. You put it on jacks, take off tires to get access to lower part of engine (that's where they hide the thermostat). Fixed my sons colorado and it works fine for the last two years.

That highway looks clean. In New Brunswick, no one owns a sports car because when it's not icy, the state of the highways will send any small car into the bushes haha

The temp gauge always stays right at a quarter I’ve had two and put over 200k on them and it’s never moved from their when at operating temp
@Gggggghhvvbbb2 жыл бұрын
the temp guage thing is a new thermostat. you need the recall version that runs hotter, when you replace it will put the temp guage in the middle. she will run fine with the old thermostat until the spring wears out to the point the engine runs so cold that it will throw a code and shut off the AC as a precaution

This video was recommended by KZbin, didn’t even realize you were from VT at first! Congrats on the truck! I’m looking for a cheap project truck as well.
@thatguydave15735 жыл бұрын
Never had an issue with the temp gauge not going all the way up. The only finicky thing I’ve discovered is that the brake rotors are on behind the hub. So you would have to pull out the hub and press the hub back On with a press.
