I had a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton. Loved that little motor. Paid 250.00 for it used. Ran my 15ft. Vhull. So easy to work on and parts were cheap. Worked great.

Guessing the clear-ish liquid might've come out of the lower unit on the motor, definitely worth looking into!

I think it is the mini gearbox or the foot oil. The other liquids are not clear at all. Best of luck 😢 figuring out what's wrong.

@@ivanfromtheeast4709 from a quick googling it Cosmoline is more used for ocean use products. people running equipment on the ocean probably wouldn't even a 15 HP outboard let alone 5hp, and that is generous for that little guy. Maybe it's coolent from siding else? It is a multi use space.

About 10 years ago I bought an old British Seagull for $100. It was made in 1957, is rated at 4hp (it's really a 3.7hp), has a 6 pint (!) fuel tank (I can run around for hours on that) and has no reverse gear (they only had forward and neutral). It still runs like a dream and pushes a 12 foot aluminium boat with me (I'm 6'4 and 300lb) with two others and our fishing gear at about 8-10 miles an hour. One of the best things I've ever bought. Where I live is saltwater and my Seagull has never skipped a beat and gets me around quite nicely. You just don't want to be in a hurry. I can go a lot of places other boats can't though, so she pays off right there. For crabbing and fishing around sand flats I wouldn't use anything else. With a bicycle hand-grip, a broom handle, some PVC pipe and zip ties you can build a tiller extension so you can stand in the middle of the boat forward and spot channels, rocks, sandbanks and fish.

Being designed for water by engineers, the boat is definitely better and faster, as you can tell by the colors in the water of your wake. The location of the wake also tells you how well designed the craft is, from personal experiences.

Those small motors have a high side needle on the carb. Once the motor is nice and broken in TIGHTEN (to the right) the screw just a 1/4 turn and you will get more power out of it

I got one of these for my 14ft porteboat but it's a two stroke I use it for walk in access and avoid the boat ramps and fees at alot of lakes because of it 😂 it pushes my boat with me my buddy and all our duck gear at about 4.5 mph
