That 906 is so magical on this amp, sounds great.

You've really got yourself something, and what gets me is, from listening to what you've said, you know it and you understand and appreciate what you have. That's rare in an age of flippers and brokers. Non playing greedsters who can't even play an A chord, out to hustle a buck by cannibalizing our history, grabbing them all and locking them in vaults until they go up in price enough to flip it to another broker who will lock it in the vault until it goes up enough to flip it to another broker who will.......ad infinitum, until the asking price is over a million dollars and no musician can ever touch any of them ever again. I'm glad that's not you. I'm really happy to hear you just talk about what an amazing instrument it is, and how it can play such a big part in the creative process. I too am goofy in the head for all Tweed amps. The only ones I've ever played or heard that I didn't instantly love were the ones that needed work, and once the problems were corrected, well....they join the family! The first one I ever heard live and up close was in the early 80s at a store in Atlanta. A guy was playing a Tele through a 5F4 Super and it stopped me in my tracks. It was the best amplifier I had ever heard in my life. A couple of years later. I found an August '56 5F2A Princeton in a pawn shop. It was tired, and it needed tubes, caps, and the right speaker, but the resurrection was successful. I still have it, and it sounds better all the time. A few years later, I found a 5E9 Tremolux (October '55). It was tired and needed some attention, and some idiot had painted it brown. It got new Tweed, and a fresh Jensen P12 R, and it has a clean bill of health. The tremolo on these is incredible. It has to be heard to be believed. It's always a great pleasure to see a fellow Tweed fan and hear another working example of these beautiful, amazing amps. Leo knocked it out of the park with the whole series. They all kick ass! Both of mine are prized possessions and the next time they change hands will be at my estate sale. I only hope that whoever gets them after me will play them, take care of them, appreciate them for what they are, and not lock them away in the vault. CHEERS! And Hats off to you, sir.

One thing you said regarding late 50's amp technology, particularly Fender, is that the breakup was what 'we' desired at that time. I don't think gain/overdrive had become a thing yet in the late 50's and Leo definitely did not want his amps to breakup. He wanted as clean a tone as possible, holding together at stage volume. Thus why the black face Fender was the pinnacle of what he was shooting for. As far as you saying that 'These characteristics (breakup) were what we valued at the time because that was what's available.' I think it took a few years after this for players to start thinking in terms of late tweeds being the benchmark for breakup/tone and to this day, despite technology surpassing tubes it's still what people insist on for hi fi stereo and guitar amp design.

Pete Townsend and Joe Walsh loved these 3x10 Bandmasters. Joe Walsh had Dr. Z make an amp based on one. Personally, I love the top end and tightness of 10 inch speakers. They cut through more with less mud than the 12 inch speaker amps that I've owned.

Joe and Pete both loved the same amp(literally) cause Joe traded it to Pete for other gear! All those famous 'Won't get fooled again' tones were that Bandmaster NOT a Hiwatt!

@@kellyjackson7889 yep. This is a really cool video where Joe talks about the Dr. Z amp and that Bandmaster.
The first Montrose record had a 58 Bandmaster with a 58 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

I love and share your enthusiasm for the extraordinary visual and sonic beauty of vintage amps. Thanks for not smothering the sound in delay, overdrive and other audial ketchup and for demonstrating some clean tones.

Great feelings coming out of your soul. I love the amp too! $7K is a very good deal on an original Bandmaster! I'll give you $8k for it !! Seriously.

Victoria Amps are the best recreations of Tweed Fenders out there, and they built better than the current hand wired Fender amps. I’ve got an Ivy League and absolutely love it.

beautiful amp, I'd get her naked behind an R-122 personally. But The 906 is doing a way better job than I'd have anticipated.

While Joe Walsh and Pete Townshend have used Tweed Bandmasters to great effect there’s one album that defines the sound of that amp. The debut Montrose album is one of my guitar albums.

I believe Joe Walsh was in a blackout when he gave his 59' tweed to Pete Townsend. Pete did put it to good use though.

That’s a thing of beauty. Lots of people think old stuff is BS + hype. To be honest there’s some emperors new (old?) clothes about it all but I love all the old flavours. It’s a special thing. Those old speakers make a huge difference. Just enjoy it and well done! Thanks for sharing.

Very Nice! Wouldn’t the drummer in the band really need drumheads stretched from the labias of a heard of unicorns to be worthy of gigging alongside that amp? The vocalist may just have to be Morgan Freeman singing through the rarest microphone made of solid gold. I think I’m finally starting to understand the nuances of this mythical swirling fantasy!
