Do not go up that mast without a safety harness on...brake ya back and your whole life will be shite if ya don't brake ya neck guaranteed. Ferro cement boats are a special breed I would suggest you google as much as you can on them to understand where your problems will occur , they do tend to suffer from rust blow out when the wire/round-bar within suffers rust problems (Above and below the waterline) You will probably need to strip back the coach lining to reveal the extent of water damage on the wooden framing used to support it. Most marinas require a boat to be insured , Ferro's in average condition are hard to get insurance for so just check with the marina people as to where you stand.

Hi mate good on you for tackling that job. Just a hint when you do those temporary patches apply a coat of the grey sealer before you apply the mesh then apply sealer after. Same applies if you use resin in future repairs

Looks like a big project, have you had it surveyed? Might be worth it as they'll tell you where all of your problems are and how bad it is. It's a little pricy (£16/ft in the UK) but they'll check the hull, deck and superstructure. Check out the duracell project channel, he's doing a real top notch build from and old racing boat, he's got a lot of good glassing techniques and tips, especially in his earlier videos. Are you leaving the bilge hatches open to get some air circulating in there? If you're going to be living in there I'd recommend buying some anti-fungal spray and hose it all down, it'll help stop any rot as well. Still makes me laugh that a flerfer used to own it, not exactly sure how he navigated. Look forward to watching more videos from you, should be good. Good luck to you

Get some XXL nappies and these will soak up water in your Bilges and very easy getting into tight places. Saves taking bark off your arms as well

I know there will be a learning curve, but like a few people have said here, temp fixes are wasted money. Fiberglass work is technique and proper product use! Do your research, learn how it should be done, and get that experience. Grow as you go! Good luck.

I just wanted to say be sure you know the rules and regulations about your area, you would not want to get fined for doing something wrong that will only take money out of your pocket. I say this because in some countries, if you empty your bilge directly into the water system with oil/fuel in it you may have a problem. Look into it to be sure.

Everyone has to start somewhere, you’re doing good. Suggestion is to start reading on fiberglass repair- KZbin is great for that- also look into Don Casey books- full electrical and plumbing - take your time and educate yourself. Good to see someone young getting into sailing and repair.

If I were in your shoes I'd get rid of most of that wood in the boat. Wood swells and rots and needs constant maintenance to stay in good shape.

I'll do my part and provide some Dadly advice. Every cent you spend on a temporary fix is money out the porthole. Temporary fixes are a necessary evil, but I'd suggest adding a snippet every episode that showcases a forever fix. Something as simple as I'm going to fix this nest of wiring.... etc. If your content is good and you can spin a good yarn you-tube will build you a new boat.

I'm with you with the wiring, my current (see what I did there) worry. 12/48 is ok but the mains stuff is a worry. When you route anything, wiring or plumbing draw what you did. You will forget where is all went. But old codger me aside, well done for giving it a go.

Get overcurrent protection (fuses) on those battery positive wires ASAP and throughout the boat's wiring. Be a shame to lose the boat due to a fire! Also..............you are actually crimping your wire splices and not just taping them together I hope???

Your dehumidifier, possibly is not big enough given your real estate. get hold of a humidity gauge, try and keep the humidity below 70% this will not solve your moisture issues but will drastically reduce hopefully the amount of condensation you are seeing. If the hull is sound then most of the water in the bilge has probably been generated by humidity. During the day if its not raining and the sun is out open all hatches, there is no quicker way to remove moisture from the environment, then close them again before the dew starts to fall.

The Ferro boat I had in NZ had these kind of holes between each bilge compartment but they'd all got clogged up. Maybe this is similar and you can get the water running between sections

Good on ya young fella !! my advice to you is join a group on social media that has to do with ferro cement yachts , that group should be able to advise you on some maintenance tips and what to look for on a ferro cement hull , check your prop shaft seal , you might be getting some water coming in that way , I have had some experience with that construction so if you have any questions just ask ! I will be following you with your journey on fixing up your boat , good luck mate :)

when was the last time the boat was pulled out of the water or hauled? and bottom paint done also the prop shaft bearings and propeller, zincs, and packing? it's expensive to have a boat hauled out. and rent the space at the marina to do the work. you need fire extinguishers at least 2 or 3 for any fire, proper extinguishers and life jackets for the number of persons to be onboard. Wiring unions can be soldered with fishtank tubing slipped over the solder joint. It's better to use 12 volt chest freezers than the boat freezer, because it costs too much to rebuild it. Keep your cameras and charts in a dry boat fridge, unless you are desperate for space on a long passage. Run the chests in ECO mode, never MAX. If you expand your battery system, use separate charge controllers into separate batteries running separate loads. Don't wire batteries in parallel. A world, not British CB radio is both useful and fun. Stay away from FM CB. It's worthless. You should deliberately hose down the interior with clean fresh water, then dry it. A routine. This purges salt. LED lighting is a must.

Great to see you taking on a challenge. Your definitely going to need to work on that mast base, you can see where its crushing the wood under it in the video, so it might be rotten. One question, the large pin sticking out pf the base of the mast is that all the way in? It looks like its halfway out. It only showed the one side. Id hate to see it come out and your mast fall if its loose, especially if your climbing it. Take care and i hope its all good for you. Peace

You can make a pretty simple mast boot out of a large piece inner tube and a big hose clamp. That might help if that coat of goo doesn't do the trick. Super cool boat. Keep your chin up!

In the old days, I would set up a heat lamp to dry them up those critical spots for repair after toweling them down. I suppose the moisture present acts as part of the mix? My 21' 1965 fiberglass "Aurora 21" was a lot smaller, but the oId saying, "learn-by-doing" may well apply here. I thought of it as 2 related stories: What's happening 1) Above the waterline. and 2) Below the waterline, and both between and while. On an on-going basis. Best of luck on a beautiful project. Your doing great! Necessary repairs first. And make it comfortable! Every thing else will flow. You might get a wet n dry vacuum. Very helpful thru the process. You have solar and batteries. A small converter will work. Unless it is already setup. Fans in the bilge will help it dry out.

Good work.... Keep it up... If you are going to be dry docking the boat for now. I would take any sails, mast, or anything else off and store them somewhere. Gets them out of the way and would prevent them getting damaged. I'm not a sailor by any means, it's just a thought.

Keep at it mate, you’re off to a hood start. Nice work with the paint/roving for a temp fix. If it lifts on you try again after acetone wipe then 60-grit sand then paint hull before laying roving on top then more paint. Adhesion is all about the prep…. Cheers 😎

All the through hull fittings seem to be ok, I’m not too worried about them atm because only 1 is below water level and it seems pretty good. The engine will need a little bit of work to get going but as far as I know it should run ok after a bit of tinkering 😅
