I Bought a Bootleg Joker Figure

As the title says, I bought a third party/ unlicensed/ bootleg Joker figure made by a company called "Fire Toys"...
And honestly, it's actually pretty good!

Current day bootlegs aren't like old school bootlegs. It ranges from remolds, to digital scans, even to official figures that are over produced and sold out the back door. (which is common for NECA) but as long as it's a good base to DIY or good enough to display, it's fine. Especially if the item is out of print!

@@MINDSET4LIFE143 very unlikely, for low end, no one wants a bootleg because it's the same price as the original, they settle cause the original is hard to find. Meaning they wouldn't even be paying the company anyway, similar to very high end. Someone that spends $200 on a bootleg because they $400-$600 original is so high priced, they'd never buy it to begin with. So still money wasn't gonna go to the company. Outside of books, music, movies etc. Bootlegs likely affect companies in small and manageable ways.

This is amusing to me because as a Transformers collector, the Third Party market for Transformers Toys is vastly superior to anything done by the official Hasbro or Takara brands. I can’t imagine buying an official one of them at this point, they are overpriced and under detailed compare to Third Parties and even some KO producers.

There are so many bootlegs that are beautifully (re)casted, but with awful paintjob! I usually buy those and repaint... Even without so much talent for the repaint, some results I get are incredible, just because of the great sculpture! This Joker, tho, is already impecaple! Sadly, it's still quite expensive for me, so I'm overmaking my 30cm figure of Dr. Silvana (from Shazam) into a Joker close to this one! Great video and great figure, mate!

I’ve considered stuff like this. I’m a cosplay photographer and sometimes it’s hard to find people to work with for certain characters, so I thought of using stuff like hot toys for shot’s especially masked one. Spidey, deadpool, iron man etc because you could pass that off as a person in editing, but all the detailed figures are so damn expensive, but you always see these bootlegs online just never had the guts to try one.

It's honestly VERY hit or miss. I have a few KO that are amazing, I have more than a few are appropriate for the parts bin or garbage.

Back when I was single many moons ago. I would buy the stuff. I have the DC Direct 13 inch Heath Ledger joker and I love the figure. It’s the only figure I have out of box right now. As a married man you have to really pick and choose which things you buy. Honestly I go on the cheep and customize them( thanks Chris) but I’ve never bought a sideshow statue until recently. I preordered the 1/4 scale Christopher Reeve statue. It will probably be the only piece I ever buy so I had to make a wise choice. And when I saw it, I knew it was the one. And I’ll probably never sell it . And like my KC Superman and Captain Marvel it will be a prized piece

Honestly the licence figure are only more expensive because they pay a lot of money for that licence.About 5 or 6 years ago unlicensed figure were bad but now most of them are amazing.

I own a lot of bootleg figures. It depends on some of the bootlegs. I have a KO MP Transformers Ultra Magnus that is amazing, and several KO die cast Transformers that are very very good, but then I am currently fiddling with some KO Kabaya Beetle Armor figures while watching this that are VERY thin and cheap. It's always a fun adventure.

I’ve bought like 4. I got a night vigilante (nightwing from Titans), the comedian (2019 joker), iron warrior (Finn Jones Iron Fist, and Hellboy from Golden Army. So far they’ve all been great, they have great stands, quality, head sculpts, accessories, and overall look great. The Hellboy wasn’t the best, it took some work but it was also like $50. I had to fix the tail onto the figure, drybrush, fix paint lines, dirty things up, and glue the silicone sleeve on the body back together. It varies place to place but the best 3rd party I’ve bought from is soosootoys

Lol...It's so interesting to me how different vernacular can be from region to region (especially country to country, but also state to state & neighborhood to neighborhood. Anyways, what I'm getting at is the whole "bootleg" meaning. I grew up in the 80's & 90's in Brooklyn, NY. In my hood, that word meant something truly fake/cheap. It meant pirated movies shot on cheap camcorders in theatre, and sold on the street as "bootlegs". It never referred to a $400 piece of art... : -D

Getting bootleg figures can be a gamble. Some are made from the actual left over molds, and are decent quality. Others are made from scraps from the quality control box. Third party figures can sometimes be fans trying get back some money from their hobby of making figures. This seems like they actually care about the product but couldn't afford a license. Not just a fly-by-night trying to cash in on fans.

I've got a 1/6 scale Heath Ledger, custom figure that I put together, with a suit, body and head that I picked out on eBay ages ago. He turned out pretty good. Maybe you can mess with the knee joint, small amount of superglue in the joint, working the knee, so it doesn't stick, but does tighten up. While you're at that check the ankle sockets there maybe a way to shorten the legs. Or you can just maybe see about getting a replacement body for the figure. Also noticed the coat, isn't as weathered as the Enterbay one. Maybe you do some weathering? Great looking figure, to big for my stuff, I collect and make 1/6 scale.

Nice review, I picked up their 1/6th scale Jokers [the purple jacket one and the bank robber one]. I swapped the body out on the one from Fire Toys, but yea overall I was very impressed as I didn't have the chance to score the HT's one when released or even after when they released the DX ones. And yea, the outfit and the accessories are very good, somewhat better than the HT [or Enterbay] ones. Enjoy.

3rd party unlicensed and knock offs are the primary way to go. I only buy licensed if there is no other option because these companies behave as if they are the only ones able to produce quality products. In 1/6 SooSoo Toys and Toys Era are bringing Hot Toys back down to earth by showing what happens when price meets quality minus they bravado of a license. This is a phenomenal figure and if it makes you happy and the price is right then go for it. Leave Hot Toys on the shelf until they get their crap together... 👍

As much as I see your point about the face paint on the bootleg being more realistic, I still think I prefer the original. It just has so much more detail in it compared to the bootleg. I also think the hair is a more accurate color on the original. Idk, just me.

Bought a bootleg knock off of Volcanicus a year or two ago. The box art and design were similar to the transformers but name was Deformations instead, they did come with Autobot stickers I could put on take make them look more legit.

Hey Chris nice to see a vid of a figure that has definitely held peoples interest , Heath still holds the mantle for best joker yet . This is a recast no argument there and the cut and sew appear the same as EB but you are a better judge because video can be deceiving sometimes . Yes the white paint job is alittle light and maybe more accurate like you mentioned . What EB and this figure get wrong is the tie , the colors are reversed . I went and checked mine which is original and they are the same but that doesnt diminish how great this figure is . The sculpt although very accurate is a tad narrow across the temples and the guy who rehaired my joker resculpted the head too . The HT Joker i feel has the better sculpt and the tie is accurate too but i have been proven wrong many times . Be well my Aussie brother ..
