I have tears in my eyes...we had the same Dual in my parents stereo system. Growing up not far away from Dual's hometown of "St. Georgen",it was pretty normal to own a Dual turntable in the family.....i still have a 721 in my collection....thanks for the video,....all the best from the Black Forest, Germany!!!

I've got a 721 as well that I bought in "78" and it still works flawlessly to this day. I do use a Dynavector cartridge now and I've upgraded to a LED strobe lamp, but that is all.

That is just too cool! Nice find! I have a Dual 5 something, that I picked up at a thrift store for 2.95! That was 20+ years ago and is still my go to, turntable! Never been serviced! Works flawlessly!

Your enthusiasm is infectious. I felt like I was watching Al Capone's safe being opened again... but with much better results! Good to see this iconic brand back in production.

Glad you enjoyed it! it is fun when thinks work out. it would of sucked if it was broken after 40 years.

I am surprised to see "Made in Germany" on the box. My 1986 505-2 says Made in West Germany on it. Very important distinction at the time :)

I own Dual CS 505-2 of 80's. It is nice simple thing, though has some typical weak points such as jammed mechanics inside and speed switch troubles (the latter is caused by shift of the switching mechanism from the platter). I also own USSR direct drive Elektronika D1-012 turntable (originally it was combined with an amplifier, but I detached it and built into new wooden cabinet) which is a true monster and superior by all points, but I love my CS 505-2 anyway.

I bought a Dual CS 708Q quartz lock controlled direct drive turntable in '81. This entire line had what Dual termed an 'ultra low mass (ULM)' tone arm (straight), and came with an Ortofon cartridge. Apart from Dual's reputation, my main motivation in getting this particular TT was that, in an era of frequently warped records it could comfortably track just about anything, within reasonable limits. It worked beautifully until it was damaged by movers...

I bought and still use my Dual 606. Purchased it at Bracks Electronics in the Yonge and Dundas area of Toronto back in 1981 or '82. Came with a cartridge. Still going strong. Absolutely love it!

I should add that what sold me on this turntable was that it could play records almost upside down to show off it's balanced tone arm.
@thechuckster1971 Жыл бұрын
Not almost upside down. If you put a clamp on the record it will play completely upside down. Not sure why you would want to do that but you can.

I have two. 1229Q and a 1245 belt drive with Shure cartridges. My 29 kow has an issue with pitch control. They are both 50 yrs old and still work, but for that one issue. Well made and look good also. I had a Garrard and a Pioneer until I got my Duals.

That´s a great buy! The famous and infamous plastic era 😀. Duals try to catch up with the ever stronger Japanese competition. Technically really good turntables, design is...well, but all producers went into plastic. This model was produced between 1981 and 1983. Back in the day, all Duals were Made in Germany.

Dual was,is,an excellent product 👌. In the early 70s a friend had an awesome DUAL turntable then. Inspection number 15 is my guess.

220 dollars in 1981 has the same buying power as 738.44 dollars in 2023. I am wondering if when you said 1200 today you included the price gouging everyone is practicing because in our society greed has replaced honesty 😢

The use of plastic was Dual's attempt to be competitive with the Japanese tables. Plastic was far from hi tech in 1981, it was cheap. Nothing more. And the use of plastic over wood let Dual drop the price of its tables. However, it also noticeable reduced the quality of their tables too.
