I Bought a BROKEN PS5 That "May or May Not" Have Water Damage - I bought this broken PS5 from eBay and the seller said it wouldn't power on and it might have liquid damage... which usually means that there IS liquid damage. However, as with a lot of things I've bought on eBay... what I was expecting wasn't what I got.

We need to keep the pressure on all companies about this, don't let anyone get away with it. Even though some like Sony do have great customer service and will likely replace it for accidental damage we cannot let the pressure up. Companies like Apple who hike up the repair price to be more expensive than a new product to bait you into buying a new one are the worst in this situation, Samsung is starting to get there, which annoys me cause papa needs himself a new Galaxy s8+ screen lol.

Well, people are obviously buying broken, loose consoles for the MSRP of a brand new system, so it clearly isn't insane to ask such prices. What's insane is that people are willing to pay these prices just because Sony can't keep up with demand. Hell, have you checked PS4 prices lately? I've seen Pro's (just console plus controller) retail for 399€ last week.

Have you ever considered the short sniffer from testec. It uses a magnetic field (Coil) to detect traces deep within a circuit card. Just a thought to get you deeper into the board without having to buy an x-ray or excavate the board to find where the traces are going.

Just yesterday I had a similar case in my repair shop. Had a customer with PS4 Slim constant BLOD issue. Upon inspection, I've noticed that the big capacitor of the LAN port (missing from the board of your PS5) and the 4 filters were blown out. I've changed them from a donor board and I got to WLOD, which was great news. It turns out that the lightning strike has also blown the IC chip. Changed that and EUREKA! +1 happy customer! My point is that the chip on the other side of the board was actually fine. You're missing a capacitor there. Try putting it back to place, along with the 4 little filters and try again. Cheers from Bulgaria!

@@KindOfHero okay so I recently got it back from repairs. It had the problem where it turns on for a one to two seconds and off immediately. It was the APU chip that was faulty. The guy was bored one day and decided to flush my ps4 which surprisingly fixed it. I played for about two weeks up until I got the blue light of death. Ohhh, and my PS also had moist damage by the motherboard. I have had this playstation for five years. The problems started this year around February. It took quite a while to get fixed because we thought we couldn't fix it because of the moist damage and faulty apu chip.

I lived in an apartment where the upstairs tenant had their air conditioner leak and it dripped down all day while I was at work onto a table and ruined it. So I definitely can see where water damage could happen...BUT...I would have definitely known what the issue was when my ps5 was fine and then water everywhere and not fine...so why play they may or may not games...it's to cover themselves to avoid a return. I see people complain about buyer's scamming sellers on ebay, but I've had more sellers scam me than buyers have over the years.

On the PS4, the ethernet port would have gone to a special second SoC that handled communications (so that it could continue downloads while the main APU was powered off,) then was connected to the APU from that. I don't know if the PS5 kept this design or not. The magnetic isolation chip is supposed to protect the system from damage though from the ethernet port.

What if a pipe leaks?
@MohammedZadjali
@MohammedZadjali 2 жыл бұрын
@@felixfider7229 why is the console located below a pipe? I partially agree with OP, unless your house is flooded there are limited excuses in having water spilled on your devices.

If there is a storm that breaks a window, or flooding that enters your house... That's not negligence, that's mother nature.

thats why you should disconnect things when there is thunderstorm, in our computer service when there was thunderstorm like 4 ps4 and one ps5 came after it with the same problem(in some cases just power supply was faulty)

Not sure if this has been commented before or not but I noted when you took it apart it looked like the ribbon cable next to the fan had been chewed up/screwed through. Didn’t know if this was connected to the front panel hence odd button behaviour and lights not working

Usually the ethernet is connected to the smc.(big chip in the corner). If there are no shorts around the apu, 30% chance that it isnt fried. Measure around the apu and the smc after removing the ethernet coils and the resistors(maybe burned some layers together).

Please do some wearables like Garmin, Apple, Fitbit, and Samsung, as most of them are trashed from the battery being “not replaceable.” Like my Garmin Instinct which is a bang for buck the best for battery life but at only 2.5 years old till the battery starts having issues is very lame.

Another great video, sad that this has to be a parts unit, however at least the next one down the line may be repairable thanks to this one. I also agree with you on the right to repair laws needing to be passed, theres no reason a big company should be exempt from making its products properly repairable by any tech that knows what they're doing.

@AznTony360
@AznTony360 2 жыл бұрын
Totally repairable, but not worth the headache as there are multiple components that the surge could've damaged. At that point, it's a guessing game to which it might be, the lack of parts is also a concern to attempt the repair. Safe to say that he did the right thing as this ps5 can go to fix multiple systems in the future.

My PS4 recently had turned off and I've been watching your videos to figure out what happened since my PS4 turns on, but turns off a second later, Now it wont turn on at all. I've noticed that the Power Chord is angled a little down while connected and it wiggles a bit, but I dont know if my power chord is not working or if the thing where you plug in the power cord is messed up and it's not the 2 silver sticks that wiggles, its the little black squared box around the silver sticks inside that wiggles. Any help of Info or video link about it??
