Finally a R129 modell. Congratulations, Hoovie reached automotive heaven. Big cheers from all SL-owners (like me) who have wet dreams of having a V12-M120, but fear the cost of repairing it and bought a simple R6-M104 ("half-engine"). I'm looking forward for your next SL-clip! Roof 1: could be you need to re-initialize the window-setting (see manual). Roof 2: could be the micro-sensors that indicate the windows are all down. Roof 3: change the roof hydraulics oil, the it works smoother. Wet Diff: not an issue, its a mercedes, dude. Steering: new shock absorber is 25 dollars and five minutes work. AC: try refilling it first, my W140 was all empty after 2 years sitting. Brake squeek: normal when driving slow. mine does that too. Brake light on/off: could be dirty wheel-speed-sensors in front.

The R129 is actually reliable, even with the V12. Obviously it costs more money to maintain than a V8 version but it's nowhere near the cost of R230 SL or any mercedes from that era. Same story with BMW, 750i and 850i from the 90s were not plagued with issues like the high end bimmers that came out later.

I suspect the issue with the top not wanting to play the game may be an issue with the computer having lost its settings. A reboot might sort that out pretty cheaply, and the top itself looked to be in beautiful condition. Factory black is a pretty rare colour option on one of these, in Europe at least. It certainly has potential, it's only a matter of time before the values of these V12 SLs go as nuts as the values of the previous generation 560SL...

Just a heads up on all 1997-2002 R129 cars. The keys (all the keys flip, valet, master) are all unavailable from Mercedes benz for about a year now. Actually really enjoyed this video. It was nice to see the actual buying process, the other videos were getting a little repetitive. This felt a lot more natural and better than the scripted jokes in the other videos. I've been really considering buying an SL500 that generation so I hope to see more videos in the future and hopefully get more buying tips, Hoovie seems pretty knowledgeable when it comes to these.

Is that a Buick Grand National in the Wizard's garage? Buy one of those next time. These Mercedes cars are fancy and all but we need more mullet cars on this channel. Also Hoovie your pipes are looking a little small there. I'm talking arms, yo, use the money you saved to start a Test E cycle and start lifting weights. Blast and cruise. Foxbody.

prushimush Maybe you could stop lifting weights and read a few books...improve your mind

3:30. I thought Hoovie was going to go Richard Rawlings on him and say something like 2 grand XD I feel like buying that Buick Grand National next to the Mercedes in the Wizard's shop would have been a better investment.. or it may be just another regal....

Nathan Kim it's got the right wheels. Hopefully a Grand National.

Fucktards of course it's real Who brings a cloned GN to a mechanic
@rhull39396 жыл бұрын
Rich R like your think that hasn't been done before? Or people haven't thrown GN wheels on a black Regal? All cloned GN's have always been fixed by their owners since the mid 80's? I think we know who the"fucktard" is.
@rhull39396 жыл бұрын
Rich R pissed you're wrong? I'm saying it's a real one but there's no reason it can't be a clone and at a mechanic. So you're saying that all clones are done by the owners and no one else, ever? No one ever buys a clone and doesn't work on it? You are a moron. And oh yeah, get bent fuckface.
@rhull39396 жыл бұрын
Rich R oh shit! Look what I found with a 10-second Google search. A Buick Grand National clone for sale with a build sheet. Which means it was done at a professional mechanic shop. Idiot. www.2040-cars.com/Buick/Grand-National/buick-grand-national-t-type-gnx-clone-40k-miles-with-modifications-624463/

The original buyer could have spent the same amount of money on a contemporary 911 Turbo. It would be worth 30x as much today...
@HypnOlli6 жыл бұрын
Maybe like five times more...But the sl is six times the car.

Bud Chronic a 1997 Turbo is worth $100,000-200,000. This was $5,000. Do the math.

Yeah, 993 prices have been exploding.

Dollar to dollar, that may be true. I'd still rather have the SL. I don't want to have to work so hard to relax.

He makes a solid point about how underrated buttons are. I have a 2000 E class, and I could do pretty much anything I want without looking away from the road vs. a new Lexus I was driving while on vacation where I had to make sure the screen was on the right menu or right setting to turn on the radio. But hey, that's what the car buyers are looking for I guess.

When you gave a number and that is what the owner is also thinking, you know you could have gotten him for less even more. 😅

Yeah seemed totally scripted so guess it had already been decided before they filmed it.

I had a 2 door S 600 back in the day and man do I miss that car. I bought it from government auction and it was full of all sorts of surprises including bullet proof glass that was swapped for the factory double glazed windows. It also had ballistic panels in the doors and quarters etc. On top of that it had early Goodyear run flat tires that weighed a ton. The list could go on. It also had some tuning because it was almost a half second faster in the quarter mile. But best of all is they installed holsters inside the doors. If anyone knows S600's they'll know where because they had semi hidden door pockets that popped open and in my car it had holsters inside that fit my .40 cal perfectly on both sides.

There are very few things more expensive than a cheap Mercedes
@megaswenson5 жыл бұрын
True. But I can name a couple of those things. Coping with debilitating injuries for the rest of your life, because you bought a cheap-to-maintain car without Mercedes' advanced safety engineering, is infinitely more pricey than is paying to keep a Mercedes sorted-out. And in a city not far from here, there's a couple who are facing a future as Elder Orphans, because their only daughter was driving a Miata convertible, when she hit a defective manhole cover, and her car flipped, killing her. If they'd just bought a Mercedes, like the one above, then their daughter's private schooling (pre-K-12), and all the money for all her activities, and all the other money they'd spent on her, would not have gone for NOTHING (their emotional devastation, of course, has no price tag). A Mercedes convertible would probably not have flipped, in the first place. But if it HAD flipped, the pop-up rollbar - among other features, would have protected their daughter. Personally, in their case, I think that fixing-up a cheap Mercedes like Hoovie's, would have been infinitely cheaper than buying a new Miata, and losing their only child. And we knew a Mafioso, whose wife was diabetic. She preferred tiny Mercedes like the one in this video. She drove FAST - but would lose consciousness behind the wheel, because of her diabetes. She wrecked one zippy little Mercedes after another, AT HIGH SPEEDS. Always, she emerged without a scratch. Finally, a high-up with their insurer (this was a big somebody, for whom they insured commercial properties worth billions) flew down, and suggested, "Mr. _____, we value your business, and would certainly never drop someone of your stature. But at this point, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy your wife a Maybach, and hire drivers for her?" ...my point being that in a Mercedes, you CAN drive like that, and it's ONLY MONEY.

hello, millennial here. I love cars that were made with quality a LOT more than technologically advanced cars too.
