I originally had the deck system but pulled that out to give me more usable space. Looking forward to seeing more videos soon hopefully!

Nice choice!! Your thought process is the exact reason I’m in AluCab Khaya camper; $19k OTD, removable, dust free, 3-4 season with Air heat, fits most mid and full size trucks, fairly light 1000lbs and excellent AluCab quality!!

Also, you're about to experience the main issue I face every day when I'm camping up in montana through the winters in my truck camper full time: condensation! Those little buddies put out massive condensation. The Olympic wave is a lot better, burns cleaner, and is more efficient (get the 6 for that space) but still puts out a fair amount of condensation....which will end up all over the cold spots in your tent. Regardless, it's a lot better than being cold.
@SwellRunner3 жыл бұрын
I agree. The little buddy is really a temporary solution. This isn’t a great cold-weather camping setup - it’s a DOABLE cold-weather setup. I plan on trying a diesel heater at some point as well. I’ll check out the Olympic one you mentioned

13:16. Yeah, gopro has their media mod that has a pretty decent built in microphone. "Works for hero 9 and 10" Seems to be more set up for vlogging, so it captures sound in front and behind. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and seems to really do great. Not so much in winds over 15mph. My next vid has a lot of footage captured with it in case you want to hear what its like. Cheers!

Build a half platform and use those frontrunner and plano boxes! I'm in the same boat with my new diesel gladiator build. 2 kids and myself and sometimes the wife. going alu-cab topper and 4 person rtt. The group at AT installed a Summit on my Bison in 2020. They were top knotch. I'm always solo so I didn't need the roomier Habitat and I wanted to carry kit on roof rack. I too have the sliding window on PS and the solid door on DS... but my solid door opens downward and is supported by cables - giving me a table pass through when open. I built out the bed myself and now that I know what I did wrong it may be time for version two point oh no. I chuckled at the condensation comment..... as I recall you have a history with wet tent material.....
@SwellRunner3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Sounds like a great setup! I like that side door option you did. Mines a little tall for that - still trying to reconcile the height challenges. Lol. Condensation comes with heat, moisture and cold weather - just something to manage!

It’s a funny thing. I don’t love it but it certainly works for what it is. The drawers are massive, but the back 18” or so is very hard to reach. I like the idea of built out storage, but the decked system is very rugged and doesn’t leak. Gonna keep it for a while and see how it goes

Hey Jason, FYI, I ran the Decked system on my 2014 PowerWagon for the first couple of years after I bought it. Later on, I purchased an ARE topper and mounted a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform on top, and that was when I had to change directions. Items located in the front of the bed were just a pain in the butt to deal with, climbing in and out to access those items, not exactly a thrill for these old worn out knees. Sold my Decked system to another Ram owner, purchased a bed slider, and couldn't be happier!!! Jus' sayin', Ram guys gotta stick together...

The Habitat was probably the right decision, as the only real drawback you get with a Power Wagon is its payload capacity. It's nowhere near the payload that you get with other 3/4 ton trucks, because of the need to make it articulate with the rear coil springs and shocks. That means a big camper would easily hit or exceed payload, without any gear. This Habitat only adds a bit of weight and even with gear and passengers, should keep you well under that payload limit. 1500 lbs is a big number, but a traditional camper would eat that up fast. As no doubt, would an Alu-cab. Though the Alu-cab would still be lighter and keep you under payload limits, that plus gear plus passengers would probably get you up to that limit real fast. The regular RAM 2500 has a payload over 4,000 lbs, so while those could work with a big heavy camper, the PW is best suited to something just like that Habitat. Also, I dig the shoutouts to Tacoma Beast and Venture 4WD. I like both channels, and am happy to see you like them too. Especially Chris Shontz, who I consider The Boss of youtube overlanders. I hope you dig the Habitat, and get a lot of great trips with you and your kids out of it.
@donleamon86533 жыл бұрын
First off, that is not a Power Wagon. Second, guys get their panties in a bundle over the PW’s payload, due solely to the springs. NOTHING ELSE (ok it has a different link to the front axle for more articulation). It is a 2500, period. Daystar cradles and AirLift bags in the rear preserve the drop articulation while providing the carrying capability needed for more payload. I speak from experience having had a FWC Hawk on my PW for the past four years with thousands of miles off-road.
