The title says it all, I bought a 12 volt automotive battery tester, then hooked it up to everything I could find. Cars, batteries, non-batteries, non-humans, various sticks and rock. Ok maybe not all of that, but in this video we do check out what a car battery tester does. Also we take a look at various battery chargers, like the one that murdered my Polaris. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE.

Great video! I use midtronics myself. Considered the gold ✨ standard in the industry. If I can make a suggestion, test with a volt meter first then compare it to the reading on the battery tester. U may be surprised, some are over one volt out, meaning the rest of the algorithms in the tester will also be off. Cheers 🍻

It's a big mistake to use an old school (designed in the 70's or earlier) or cheap battery charger on any vehicle that has an ECU unless you disconnect the battery from the vehicle. That's why I have standardized on the CTEK MXS 5.0 charger. It's smart enough that it doesn't over-volt the vehicle modules and kill them. BTW, the recondition option of the CTEK causes the electrolyte to bubble which recombines the water and acid.

I have the same battery tester, when you tested the Yoda, did you disconnect the battery cables 1st -or- can you run the test with everything still connected?

Definitely still connected, according to the instructions of the car is off that is fine.

The most convenient little tool I didn’t know existed! Looks like some of them will do alternator and starter testing also.

Well dang! Rumor has it that odyssey likes to be charged to 14v on occasion but apparently it’s just a rumor b/c it’s never been done. I know what the 2017 raptor battery is about to be replaced with!

you made a comment "added a bit of AC current" The battery is DC- are you sure it was an AC current that you added when battery is DC???

Nice little tester. Might have helped me out. I did the cry once buy once for my truck for the battery. Ended up with a nice AGM from batteries plus. I had an issue with starting. A fail on my part led to replacing battery (Duralast way past its prime). Still issues. Replaced an alternator thinking it was only charging intermittently. Had 260K on the stock one so I figured I let it fly. Still starting issues. Finally realized my terminals on the end of the cable are worn out. Won't clamp tight and can wiggle. Its a thing.... trust me. I cut the negative off and replaced it. Did OK with that. Now the positive is doing it. I have a spare terminal in my truck, but decided I going to put a shim cap on that I found at autozone on to tighten it up as I got a "service charging system" light. First time I've seen that. Bought the truck with 16 on the clock. The rest of the miles are mine. so, do need to chug a nasty pickle beer?

You figured it out in the end, so probably no pickle beer necessary (unless you are into that kind of thing). I wish I was close to a batteries plus or interstate batteries, they seem to have good quality and will honor the warranty if you are close enough to bring it back to their location. Sounds like there is still a lot of life left in your truck!!

@@ZeroToAwesome The battery I got from them had good reviews and I have watched a drive in movie in FT. Worth with it stereo cranked and not issues restarting. So, it works well. Close as anything else for me. I told myself is she sees 250K with me she is likely to 500! Plenty of time left, but will likely need a trans after 300 is my guess. Time will tell. Have the itch for something new with better gas mileage that will still haul the dirt bikes. Who knows..... I'm actually not into the pickle juice thing, but my neighbor left a 6 pack of pickle beer in my beer fridge so yeah... they are there. I have found some that liked it. Maybe one or so left.. Yuck!
