Sorry PF, the real battery testing is a real world atmosphere. Interstate batteries are very good in real world conditions. Walmart batteries are not worth it. Napa gold went bad for me in 2 years. You need to remember that dust on the batteries will drain it. Keep your batteries clean. I actually put 1” styrofoam underneath my 4 AGM batteries in my Peterbilt and now up to 4 years on them. Plus they power my refrigerator. Vibration can be a killer on batteries and the heat is harder on them than the cold for longevity. I run Duracell on my wheel horse rider and my Allis Chalmers CA tractor with very good results so far.

Time to load test your battery,( this is cheap & will tell you if its time to replace it).. I used to be in the repair business & it's a false savings after a battery with low voltage shortens or even destroys your alternator or starter . It's much the same as putting an electric lawn mower at the end of a long skinny underrated extension cord .The motor struggles under low voltage & gets too hot..Ditto with the car starter, & the alternator will charge all the time trying to bring the voltage up to where sensitive computer controls can function properly.

Sharing the cost between the products and the companies that sell them is also highly valuable. All the same, it wouldn't feel right, but I think the batteries would be fine. He never started engines with them. Now that would be harsh. Also, deep drains damage batteries. He never did that. Did you know that there is a small break in for batteries before they fully perform? If he stressed them more they'd show up with even MORE cold cranking amps on their tests. At least that's how my preferred battery brands behave. Man, I remember when a premium 3 year replacement battery was about $50-60 depending on the size. It's insane that now most premium batteries are wayyy over $100 and a good portion of them from AutoZone/Advance Auto Parts are over $200. That's not including the AGM batteries. They are $300 or more now...
@richguitar93 Жыл бұрын
Auto zone batteries and the rest are Hype. Even Interstate you Gotta watch who your buying it from. With the current administration taking a hatchet to the USA, I found great reliability for the Walmart Ever start battery and just replace it with a free one every 6-8 months because that's about how long they last. If they burn a cell, they replace free for 1 yr of purchase .Cars are junk too these newer ones. CVT transmission's, etc... Just buy a 2016 Toyota and stay away from kia and their inferior metal they use on their crankshaft. If you see green on the posts, you can sand them down and seal them with metal bond or Jb weld at the post seal where the connect and the gasses don't release and the batteries will last forever.

If you notice, the everstart has a 5yr warranty. The current pics on Walmart show them with a 3yr warranty! Granted those are pics, not the actual product. But I'm assuming they're up to date since the warranty period dropped... Just like everything else rising/decreasing to the benefit of companies.
@eb0800 Жыл бұрын
@@meme5887The 3 year warranty is the free replacement period. No battery, with the exception of the platinum AGM batteries, has a free replacement period longer than 3 years. Used to work at Johnson Controls and tho the outside form is the same, internally there are important differences. Typically the less expensive batteries have thinner plates and not much room at the bottom to capture material that sloughs off the plates over time. If this plate material builds up enough it will cause a short between the plates and the battery is dead. Also, the brand has control over the design of the plates. The least expensive may have lead pickups shaped like a comb, where the better batteries gather electrons with a fractal design and are more able to handle heavier loads as well as charge more quickly. Because of the identical case, sometimes a lower cost label gets put on a better battery. And vice versa.

Unfortunately, Wal-Mart has shown they cannot be trusted to be there when needed. They closed down their auto service centers during the COVID debacle even though auto repair is an essential service that was not subject to any restrictions (certainly not in my state, where there were very few restrictions by mandate). Most of my experience over 35 yrs has brought me to this evaluation of this . And if you drain a battery dead then for instance charge it at say 10 amp for only long enough to start your car than that will damage the battery. If you drain the battery, charge it at 2 amp for 8 to 10 hours .that should replace the ampacity so it will hold a solid charge . I've had very good luck charging low and slow rather than boiling the battery at 10 or more amps .

@gettintheresafelywithpatf28695 жыл бұрын
Ditto, that doesn’t just go for the northern mid west, but in a lot of the northern areas, however I also believe in getting a 60-72 month batteries, discharge them and replace 1-2 years before their projected time has elapsed, and just pay the prorated amount. This way, I hopefully never get stranded with a dead battery, and because I cycle my batteries every 2 years from car/truck, to jump pack setup/ hillbilly welder to return to store. This way I always have a fresh battery in the vehicle, a backup battery at home or in truck, and a pro rated core for return! It sucks when you spend $20,000 for a new car, and they put a two year battery in at the factory, I would understand and except this for a used car dealership, but not a company that wants a return customer to buy their products, and when the dealership you bought your brand new car from will only replace the battery with the exact direct replacement, not allowing you to step up to a 5-6 year battery. This practice is only going to make people think before using the manufacturer’s shops!

Robert Weber that is because they use the shortest life span of products to ensure that you come in for service more often, have you noticed that Midas no longer sells a lifetime warranty on exhaust systems, or if they do it is only for their most expensive systems including mufflers, Sears use to have a lifetime warranty on their “Diehard batteries”, Craftsman tools has done away with the lifetime warranty, and will replace parts of the tools, but if the tool has any moving parts, it is not covered beyond 90 days! This is because they lost too much money by honoring their warranties, instead of selling new tools, and that what was at one time made with craftsmanship in the U.S.A. Has now been farmed out to China, or other foreign countries that do not have the same metal compounds or dedication to quality that we do, and the fact that we aren’t willing to pay the price of quality unless we use it to make our living with it, and even then it may come from a foreign country! Our government is not the only ones selling us crap, they just allow the sales of our jobs to other countries, it has been going on long before President Carter, and will continue until the world has an equal economy as a beginning!

They can be, but some are made to certain specifications for the distributor. Years back a friend of mine had her Harley at a friends house and he was moving and needed me to take it to her place as she hadn’t got her M/C license yet. He had left a 12 volt battery in the garage. Since he wasn’t coming back I took it home and trickle charged it leaving it on the floor. A few years later I went to start my 2002 GMC V6 pickup and the battery was dead. I grabbed the Walmart battery which was smaller than the group 60 that was in the truck. I ran it for years and when it died I checked the date. To my surprise it was 10 years old. Guess were I went for a battery. Since it was free for the install I had them do it but had them test it and the tech said I had the wrong size. I told him I knew and he told me again when the new battery came out. I smiled and said I know as I bought the first battery in about 12 years. Plus AGM batteries never need water. Just saying…

Honestly, this has been the most useful video you have ever done, IMO. Walmart is best for motor oils and now batteries too. Who would have believed that?

@TheCheesePlease Lol no. Take a look at the video this gentleman did on oils. I'm not saying I'd use Walmart oil, but it definitely isn't the worst stuff out there.

@@rapTorfx4, I would feel comfortable using the Walmart oil, but only for 3000 Mile intervals

YES !!! I like that, now I'm about to buy some deep cycle batteries for my boat. I would love to see a test with those types.

Thanks for your good work. And commitment to excellence. Back in the 70s I lived by Lake in the Woods. ( minnesota ) The fashionable way of thinking, there, was to used a deep cycle marine battery for your car. I don't know if the batteries are still made the same way now. But at that time the deep cycle batteries used solid plates, and that is why thy could be deep cycled. The automotive batteries had a non conductive foam core, with a plating of metal. And that is why thy do not like to be deep cycled. Oh,,, and at that time, the deep cycle marine batteries, were about 30 % cheaper. Thanks for sharing your videos.

oreilly deep cycle batteries are awesome for the money i took the 6 6 volt batteries out of my golfcart and put 3 12 volt oreilly deep cycles in 3 years ago still going strong mind you a golf cart load is extremely hard on those batteries they are not designed for that kind of application but at the time 300 dollars was far cheaper then 800 and hell glad i did it. mind you the cart will last all weekend of constant use it dont last as long as it did with the correct batteries but hey it gets us all weekend long and you can charge it overnight so i cant complain on the whole switch all though i did have to buy 3 cheap batterie tenders but still cheaper then 800 in batteries.

Just replaced a second Everstart Batt from Walmart. Both lasted barely two years. CCA is one metric but longevity is also important.
