I bought one to see me through a bad winter as my Merc CLS was useless. Absolutely adored it. Same as yours but a manual. Great thing to drive, pretty punchy, far more fun than it should be. It's still the comfiest car I've driven in terms of seats and ride quality. Far more so than recent new E Classes etc. Gave it to my mum 4yrs ago and they refuse to let it die. It's called 'Roger' by the way.

Great purchase Sam! Two of the cars I learnt to drive in was '99 V70 but with manual transmission and better engines (the 170hp and a tuned 193hp) the later is actually a blast to drive with it's turbo lag. From my experience the two most common problems seem to be that either the parking brake or the AC is not working. Btw that is a lovely color

Sam, go into any supermarket and buy some Flash antibacterial wipes for £1.50. Then clean the electric window switches, steering wheel, gearstick, door handle, seatbelt bits. The stickyness is dirt and grime. Spend 5 minutes cleaning the inside as there are probably thousands of germs, fecal matter on the interior parts.

Ah the mysterious SEW buttons. Not sport, economy, winter as many think. They're for traveling South, East or West. If you really, really need to go north, use reverse gear + the South button. All of these work backwards if you drive south of the equator of course.

I had one. The earlier noisy exhaust version. Took me all over the country faithfully. Kept the family safe in a heavy crash then repaired. Could have done with cruise control. Bit juicy, 19mpg hence got rid. Also, the inner plastics crumble. Anything plastic breaks, dashboard head lamp switch, trims etc etc. Abs units fail as well. Engine is bullet proof.

Gearbox is sports economy and winter modes, first thing to check on car is if there is any kinda puffing of smoke or vapour out of dipstick you need to clean your PCV positive crank ventilation, worth a check!

Loving the Volvo, 😜🤙 I bought an old XC70 as a daily / ski bus / surfboard carrier / Drone hangar and mountain bike hauler, he’s called Olaf and I absolutely love him. 2.5L turbo inline 5 4x4 Summum with all the bells and whistles. We’ve now done over 200000 kilometres all over Europe and the Alps. Give the green beast a suitably Viking name and lavish him with TLC and he’ll look after you. Well done.👍🏼

Great purchase ! Probably one of the best on your channel (it's weird to think that for a supercar channel but it's gonna be very interesting). Many Pros with this car: - 5 inline (sweet sound and powerful, yea it could be a sleeper) - Space (obviously) - The spirit of the car (It's a legend for it's class this car mainly to the look and the well known legendary Volvo reliability) - Reliability (It's a Volvo !) - It's very comfortable - It's got a lot of history like CarThrottle's Skoda Miles - And a great fact to know when you own one of these that makes you proud, it did raced in the BTCC championship ! Only one con would be that it's an automatic. But yea for that con, I'm interested to see if you could still have fun with two pedals and both hands on the wheel. Can't wait to see more ! The sticky switches are due to the use of environmentally friendly lacquer. It degrade with time, probably summer heat etc. Use some Wynns Clutch & Brake cleaner to clear the tackyness. Next, put a latex glove over the oil filler on the valve cover and run the engine. If the glove inflates, then you'll need to service the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) before you blow the rear main seal. There's a few videos on YT about it, "Robert DIY" specialises in V70s. Basically you have to whip off the inlet manifold and replace the oil trap and associated plumbing. Remove the flame trap, it's not needed at all.

Did a honeymoon trip driving from Perth to Sydney in an old Holden Commodore wagon, was a great experience and really loved the vehicle so much so that we bought one again when we moved out to Adelaide 7 years later. GGAAAAAAAP Those are THE greatest cars ever built! I have an S70 and yes I'm biased but PLEASE treat it well. A couple things, you'd be hard pressed to find one without one of those little bottom grill things NOT missing, so not necessarily towed. The steering wheel came multi colored from factory, S is sport, changes your throttle response and it'll hold gears longer as it's based on an BTCC champ, E is eco mode where you can get up to 25mpg, W is winter/wet mode for if you're stuck in deep snow or water. Shiftlock override is something even I've never used. The car uses 91 octane, b/c that's the highest we get in the US without going for e85. Uuuh I think that covers it? There's a huge cult following for this old 5 cylinder beast

I have an S70 myself, best car I have ever had. Funny though it basically has the same problem as yours. However I replaced most things with stuff from the scrap yard :) (for example the arm rest and the buttons) You can use leather refresher polish on the steering wheel, makes a huge difference. :)
