In Northern Ireland we have 7 MOT Test Centres (garages are not permitted to MOT). Each have 5 lanes similar to boarding a Ferry. The car mounts the system and comes out the other end, pass or fail. If failed you must re-book again and wait a few weeks for re-testing. In the meantime the car cannot be taxed or insured. If an accident occurs, the driver is liable for all costs and Penalty Points on licence.

I had one of these when I was a young lad around 2012 or so because it was exactly as you say: a small cheap frugal good looking car that does not have the horsepower to get you into trouble and costs fuck all to run. But mine was a better spec! It had climate control and cruise control. And had a better looking body-kit but that might've been after-market. Didn't much like the engine in it though, those 1.6l diesels were rattly and had quite a few issues. Mine smoked a lot on cold starts and developed a pretty substantial shudder as one of the injectors broke. Dealer couldn't get it out and eventually offered to replace the whole engine (under warranty) with another used one. Which had a cracked cooling something or another so had to have that fixed. Then the EGR valve failed so had to have that fixed. Then the trunk button started shorting out and the trunk would open randomly any time I came to a stop (probably a safety thing) so had to have that fixed. Apart from that it was a reliable car though! Luckily for me it was all under warranty and as far as I know they did really do all the fixes as they said they did. On the other hand I very much doubt they still had any profit left by the end of all that.
