One of my favourite parts of this channel is that nothing seems to faze you in terms of buying certain cars which might have known faults, I.e Navaras snapping chassis, Jaguars snapping crank shafts, BMW’s and their timing chains. Bought a '57 Navara (92k) last year as a farm runaround - has been very good so far. Gets used several times a days - even does the odd long motorway journey. Interestingly I've had the same issue with the driver's door only opening from the outside. Found that the same locks have been used front and back and the child lock had slipped on. The lock can be accessed (without removing the door card) by removing the 3 bolts along the door edge and pivoting the lock until you can flick the child lock off with a screwdriver. A more permanent fix might be to put a self-tapper in there to stop it slipping again.

@@Storm.Z.4u Disagree - I own a newer 3.0L variant of this truck - on performance touring tyres it'll break 8 seconds 0-60 and is surprisingly chuckable with progressive steering and overall good feedback (despite some vagueness at times) the steering overall is light but weighting up nicely in the corners - it puts most medium to large size crossovers I've driven to shame. The model I have also has transmission/electronics based off the 370Z so is reasonably responsive with again nice progressive power delivery and fast smooth gear changes. The only thing in that respect which is lacking is the ride quality which partly thanks to the rear leaf springs is more akin to a 90s era 4x4. Even the 2.5L variant isn't terrible though the engine is far more industrial like rattly diesel compared to the 3.0 and a bit more jerky in comparison - though pretty strong if you need a workhorse for towing, etc. That said given it is over 2tons of truck needs a lot of responsibility to drive in any kind of spirited fashion and I certainly don't rag it around the road.

I bought a brand new 'Aventura' spec D40 Navara in 2007 (at a cost of around £27K) In 2016 i was contacted By Nissan and it was suggested to me, that I not drive it any more, until the chassis has been checked for corrosion/failings (but it was my only daily transport) whilst in that 6-month queue for its inspection 'job', the timing belt broke and destroyed the engine beyond financial repair - the mileage was only 127,000 The cost of an engine fix/replacement . . . and the impending chassis issues meant it was better for me to sell it as is, and as a non-runner. In 2018, i sold it for £4,250 as, a spares or repairs The body & interior were in awesome condition (and it had a cherished plate too, which i let go as well (R10 PRO) Overall with the whole Navara ownership experience, was disappointing - despite it always being serviced on time, driven considerately, spent extra £'s on, and really a 'pampered' family car . . . . and in 'Mint' condition with lots of extras inc a £2.5K+ 'Armadillo' bed roll-top Nissan treated me like shit - every day after i paid hem for the Pickup, many, many times and always screwed up & let me down - and for that reason i would NEVER buy another Nissan - or advise anyone else to. Navara snapped chassis syndrome! Mine was a 2006, served us well. Great vehicle until a fateful MOT in about 2016 where significant corrosion was picked up and rot in the rear section of the chassis frame. Close to snapping. Nissan only informed us after our 10 warranty had expired and which was kind of them. Bought a reinforcing kit that a similar navara owner had designed. Faced with losing the truck completely i.e. a write off, a mate and I took the tub off and he painstakingly, removed bad and re-welded attaching this kit. Then passed an MOT. Sent it through a well known car purchasing brand eventually. Few other spurious issues too, off the road now I believe.

In NZ, a 4WD with dents & rust is called a 4WD. 4WDs have mud tyres or at least ATs fitted, they actually go off-road. They may have dog boxes on the back along with a deer or feral pig carcass. Navaras can be real trucks. A 4WD here without dents, dings + imperfections is called a "poser mobile" or a "city poofter truck". They're owned by people in cities, they may tow a family boat but they only go as far off-road as the nature strip outside the owners house. They have 18" alloy wheels, rarely get mud on them and are mainly used for school + tip runs, doing the grocery shop or "pretend rugged guy" duty in the office car park. The Navara can be both. The Mitsui Triton + Toyota Hilux can also be both. A flat deck, mud + dog boxes says "actual 4Wd".. alloy wheels + road tyres say "Nice truck, Deirdre"

He's got a car dealership and he sells them.

Hi Matt, great video I love these cheap gems you keep picking up! On the mileage discrepancy could it be related to the number plate being changed? Does the car vertical check/mot history follow the plate rather than the car? So it’s picking up the history of the vehicle previously registered to the plate? Just a thought!
@philipwilliams36742 жыл бұрын
You are correct Tom. Same issue happened with my car with plates transferred from one car to the other.

I former colleague of mine, lives near you. Used to love hot weather. Until he was blown up by an IED, which damaged the hypothalamus in his brain. That's the bit that regulates temperature. So, when he gets all 'wussy' and worries about 35+ degrees, it's only because his brain will literally boil... But you're probably right, he should just put a pair of shorts on hey!

Definitely a few memorable 'highlights' from that video! As always, top video Matt. Keep them coming and if your local tip is anything like mine, you need to donate a kidney in return for a 3 minute window per decade, if you dare turn up in a pick up!

Can't be the only one triggered by that panel being on the seats when there is a massive tub at the back to put it in
@HighPeakAutos2 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t fit in the back. I’ve since tried.

You can pick a bed up for those pretty cheap nowadays, I'd change the bed and punt it on...

Good bargain ,think you need to check that tub is square,judging cab tub gap on damaged side repair panels are weld bonded.Think best option would be used tub in same colour and you could pick up wings and wheels plenty in breakers that slit chassis’s.

I have something to look for that's probably not mentioned on car vertical. The boost control valve can fail causing the boost to be on all the time. This wears the thrust bearing in the turbo.

I have had one of these for 12 years from new and it's the best pickup i have ever owned.....and that includes the Hilux i had before! Mine is the Long Way Down model and that came with leather.Shame they have problems with the chassis breaking in half !
@truthjunkie23252 жыл бұрын
The thing with these - although a great truck - is that the chassis were manufactured in Spain. The problem with this is that they were created for countries with dry weather in mind. When they came here they found that our wet weather -coupled with copious amounts of salt we throw in the roads in the winter - would corrode the axle very quickly and they would snap......litterally snap. So this would be something I would be checking...

4 years ago we bought a cheap Golf 3 convertible with a accident behind the drivers door, it looked like the one at the pickup and I thought to myself "oh well, I can have that repaired, it probably won't be that expensive". I then sold the car again after 2 years because it wouldn't have been worth it.

I sold my lovely m140i and Clio 200 cup track car and I bought an old for ranger for a building project but now I’ve over spent on the build and I’m stuck with horrible old truck and I’m gutted 😢

This is a rugged pick-up that has been through hell & back! The private number plate should fetch some £499 there or thereabouts 👍 another great video 👏

I guess it is different in the UK. How on earth can a plate be worth anything? Can you explain?

D40/ D22 tubs are often replaced with trays shortly after purchase in Australia and the near new tubs sold cheap with lights as well. Pity there's 12K miles between you and Queensland otherwise I'd source one for you. Look out for the weak rear leaf springs too, make the Ute look like a dog with worms going along the road.

not really a problem in UK, but we put less tinnees in the back when we go to a barbie...

William Charles Kilroy who owns a p1 mclaren will take that plate. You might get more than you think. Best of luck chap. Love the videos.

You might struggle to take stuff to the tip in it without a commercial waste license. You may need to read up on this and your local council. Here in sunny Leeds if you turn up with a van or pickup they refuse you entry.

2018 I bought brand new Navara,,I didn't even get tow bar fitted. Biggest and only thing I placed in back was a Christmas tree. Pointless unless your farmer or builder etc. I ended up off loading it at massive loss. Lesson learned. Never again.

Matt, I wonder whether the previous owner bought the panels thinking it would be quick repair. The rear tub looks to be pushed back on that N/S 1/4 so I wonder if your going to find more damage and the reason he gave up on it and unloaded it. Good luck!!!

i just love the look of these pick up's like you say with a little bit of TLC for the money paid it would make a useful workhorse
