I'm a tech for Toyota main dealer and I knew you were going to say about the fuel sender before you even said it! Sometimes they do however get misdiagnosed as a faulty gauge cluster too as you mentioned. The brake pads do also have a habit of sticking on the holding pins causing uneven wear so it's important to clean them at every major service.

Have you ever heard of a car (Toyota Verso 1.8 petrol auto) having acceleration problems "only" when fuel is below half tank? Mystery to all the mechanics I have spoken to. No warning lights. Passes MOT. Idles perfectly. Starts fine. I just keep filling up until I know what to do? Diagnostics shows no codes. Would be pleased if you could resolve this mystery.

May I tell you all a story, about a Hilux I had in Australia? I had a HiAce work van, which got to a zillion miles and I was given a Hilux ute. (Pick-up) It had 500km on it when I arrived at the office one day. As I got out, I was hit on the shoulder, then noticed large lumps of hail starting to land, so I ran inside. I then watched my 500km Hilux get totally destroyed. Look it up; Perth WA, 2010.

Oh that's horrible. Why couldn't it have been the old van. I've seen this in action. Years ago I was doing my work permit stuff in Sydney. Sitting there at home, sunny outside. Then I heard this racket starting , like a train running through the garden. Looked out in disbelief at millions of golf balls raining down everywhere. I was just off parramatta Rd, where there were loads of car dealerships. The damage was in the millions.

My father has a Auto leasing business that gives vehicles used on land rigs in the deserts. 90% of his fleets are Hiluxs. In the end of their lease 3-5 years they are driven between 400-500k kms. They come back we change tires, give them a cleaning and off they go for next lease jobs. They're indestructible as Clarkson once said. One problem we often face especially with the newer 2.4 Diesel engines are the fuel injectors.

Which segment of cars do you consider selling with the best profit margin? Also what car were you surpised with selling the most (type of car) in your fleet? Love you content. Love from Indian and ze land of Maschinenbau

Yes Matt, that was already a very clean truck. Why oh why do u spend money changing the mats & waxoiling underneath?. I think the new owner could decide to do that if they choose. Anyway, a very clean truck for that money - I hope your mate appreciates!!

Well bought. In South Africa this year Hilux was factory recalled to replace the fuel float sensor by Toyota. Awesome car. Backbone of South african pickups ( bakkies )

I've got a 2015 SR5 in Australia, its completely stock with similar miles/kilometres and its currently worth over $40k AUD. thats currently the average price for a used hilux atm. crazy that its double the price over here. They are extremely common in Aus and for good reason, their bullet proof and reliable, go anywhere, easily customisable, and of course its a toyota so it holds its value and in my case actually goes up in price since i bought it. My first car after getting my licence was a shitbox passed down from my brother for free, and when that inevitably gave up, i knew for my "first" real car that i bought myself, technically 2nd car, i wanted something reliable, and since i've always wanted a ute. The hilux was a no brainer. i've had it for a couple years now and its my pride and joy, it's got a very thorough service history and i plan on taking some tips from your vid and getting it painted undernear and around the wheel arches for protection, and doing a gearbox service, too. Great vid mate! thanks for the tips.

Lots of pointers it has spent much of its life towing - oil and relatively low miles range at 1/4 tank - wouldn't be surprised if it was towing a horsebox. Tyres are an interesting choice in that respect - decent all around tyres well mannered on the road and capable off-road but dry and wet braking on tarmac are very much not their strong point - I would not want to be trying to stop a pickup + horsebox on those :s Steering wheels in pickups always seem to wear badly - I ended up lightly sanding and refinishing with gloss sealant the one in my Navara which has done a reasonable though not perfect job of reconditioning it - but the cost of a new one is a touch more than is worth spending on an older vehicle now.

Spot on about the Kenyan comment. There are thousands of Ex-UK Hiluxes over here. And they’re rock solid cars! Great car

Loving the Partridge references. Ideally you'll be offered a Mini-Metro at some point and will be able to respond accordingly.

Matt, the cost of the steering wheel: most likely included the airbag unit - try to buy a "stripped" steering wheel, and transfer the expensive parts.

Good result Matt. Agree Toyota parts are crazy expensive. I was quoted 850 for a rear bumper and 350 for a headlight unit. I think they want to make sure somebody doesn't buy all the parts and assemble their own cars at home.

Hi Matt Toyota is all about reliability,as opposed to jaguar and land Rover products. 700 quid profit is not bad.
