The E60 M5 is a beautiful car, the thing is it takes a lot of love and attention to keep it running nicely since it is obviously a high maintenance car. The M5 can’t really be used as an everyday car, you need a city car for small journeys round the town. The M5 belongs on open roads. You bought a severely neglected and abused M5. The previous owner obviously didn’t take care of it, didn’t do servicing, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance or preventative maintenance. I’ve had an E60 M5 for 6 years now. I have 2 different code scanners. You have to diagnose it immediately when it tells you there’s an issue. Not just ignore it and complain about the dash being ‘lit up like a Christmas tree’. All the systems are interlinked so a fault in one place can cause other issues. For example a faulty wheel speed sensor will cause issues with traction control, ABS & gearbox since the onboard computers will be confused as to what’s going on. If you diagnose the issue straight away then the sensor can be replaced fairly easily and cheaply. If you ignore it the car will be very sick indeed. I’ve had to do loads to the car over the years, but the most important thing is regular engine oil changes and change the gearbox oil & differential oil every 4/5 engine oil changes so the entire drive train is always working in nice fresh oil. If you cherish the car it is an awesome driving machine.

@@nelzelpher2088 I never said I wasn't having trouble with it. I bought it a little over 2 years ago and almost immediately had to have that controller plate inside the gear box replaced. That was almost 2 grand. Everything else has really been fairly minor. 3 of the window regulators, alternator, belt tensioner and other things. Luckily, I can still do these kinds of minor repairs. No other drive line problems so over all I am fairly happy with the car. I live in Vegas so the UV is pretty high here so paint does not hold up and the interior suffers. So it doesn't look the greatest but it actually drives great. Oh yeah, not for sale lol.
