The great thing about the 328 is it can be whatever you want it to be. With good brake pads and decent rubber it's a daily driver and a canyon Carver. Add coilovers and a racing seat and it's a track warrior for the weekends. Leave it alone and it's a comfortable commuter and a road trip car that can swallow 4 people and some luggage. Few cars can do fun and mundane practicality as well as these.
@alphonsemonthei88784 жыл бұрын
N52 is hidden gem in the BMW line up. It isn’t going to ever make monster power but that’s the only...ONLY... bad thing you can say about it. Most reliable modern BMW engine, silky smooth, sounds amazing with exhaust mods. Paired with a manual transmission it’s rewarding on so many levels. A lot of guys don’t know the N52 uses a magnesium block and it’s lighter than the 2.0L 4 cyl in the FRS. Pair it with the amazing E90 chassis and a manual, now you have yourself a real winner for less than $4k that will always put a smile on your face.
@SimplyCarThings4 жыл бұрын
I couldnt agree more! The N52 is smooth, refined, and offers enough power for most daily driving scenarios. I didn't realize how light the engine was as well that's crazy

An almost ideal daily find! 👌 N52 reliability, leatherette interior (always seems to look brand new after decades) low miles, and inexpensive. If it was mine I’d probably just respray the hood and call it a day! Yet I’m still the crazy person driving a 189k mile E92 335i 😂(owned since new).

A 3 stage intake manifold swap + a tune alone will absolutely get an n52 to ~250hp-262hp to the crank. Its no N54 in terms of power but ur pulling 240hp out ur ass lmfao.

I'm speechless over that find. I looked for e90/92's for about 6 months here in the Northeast. No such thing as accident free, under 130k mi, less than 3 owners, or being in drivable mechanical shape. Would've had to get a 2nd car while the e90 was sorted. All trashed here, & good luck finding non xdrive here. Consider yourself lucky. More power to you for giving it tlc!

I bought 2007 one in Texas for $1200 ... engine was rebuilt last year and 330i manifold install and runs great, but cosmetically destroyed. cabin air filter box ripped off, 1 window works, 3 doors work, etc. time to get to work. drove it from Texas to PA with no problems other than window falling down in a storm and frying the electronics in driver door (started smoking...)

My tip / advice : upgrade to an M steering wheel. My best upgrade by far. My second best upgrade is /was the Alpine retrofit HiFi professional speaker upgrade (65410445684). Third best upgrade was some original BMW rims/wheels (Type 159) with NON run flat michelin tyres. I've owned my E90 for 10 years soon.. Absolutely love it.. Every time I ride something else I long getting back 'home'. On top of that it has been extremely cheap to maintain and very reliable with only a few hiccups from VANOS and a few coolant leaks due to brittle plastic. I change oil and filter at least once a year and I've always sticked to Castrol LL04. A broken windscreen some years back did give me some headache before I found out how to calibrate the rainsensor in INPA (2 min job when you know how to do) because I had an aftermarked windscreen installed (the BMW stealer wanted 4-5 time the price).

Simply Car Things I’ve got a e90 335i with 190k on it I bought for 475$. Putting down 400whp, runs great. Had to do new injectors, valve cover gasket, coils and adjust wastegates. Was bone stock owned by a grandpa, has perfect compression and turbo seals are just fine. Dealer told him it would take 4000$ to repair it, and he just wanted it gone. I fixed everything and went fbo for well under a grand. Still have to do a wheel speed sensor, but it’s sitting on style 313 335is wheels and tbh those are worth more than I paid for the whole car(and it came with those!!!!)

Too funny! Back in January I bought a 2011 Crimson Red 2011 328i to take some heat off my M3. Love the car, $850 in refresh parts from FCP Euro and I have a great little daily driver. No worrying about dings and crazy drivers. Note: I’ve worked on E46’s, F30’s and F80’s and it’s by far the easiest BMW I’ve ever wrenched on. The N52 is definitely a keeper.

The E90 is sort like the 3 Series Final Edition, as a Driving machine for driver, since the first E21 3 Series. Great handling for a four door sedan, spacious trunk for bulk Costco shopping, fuel tank that is big enough for long range road trips…and the market price is a bargain. Also the E90 was the last chassis 3 Series chassis competed in World Touring Car Championship. Great “Super Tourenwagen”once you do some weight reduction for track day fun.

Having such a car I'd make it a really nice daily commuter. First I'd maintain the engine (gaskets, coils, plugs, all liquids, etc.) and transmission (oil, filter, sealing sleeves), the second I'd work on the look and comfort - sport seats from eBay (pretty affordable), sport steering wheel, LCI headlights, and taillights, wheels. And probably I wouldn't bother fixing paint but rather wrap it with some nice wrap. N52 won't give any power but it's a smooth and very nice working horse.
